From a brand new, blank journal...

28 of August

Things have settled down for me and I am acclimating well to life aboard the Kuru. The work is hard, yet rewarding...gives me a sense of accomplishment each day and gives my body a work out as well. Still sore but less so than when I first boarded. Good to be outdoors and in fresh air. Change of pace from the ill-lit taverns and back alleys in Rhydin. Thought I was blind the first few days. Been a while since my eyes have constantly seen sun shining off water. Too long I think.

The nights are different but no less satisfying. Have done my share of night watches and it is in those times, when everything is calm around us, like this one now, that I will try to write.

The captain runs a tight ship and all that are under her banner that I've spoken to hold her in high regard. From what I've seen, she's a decisive, compassionate person. Good qualities to have in a captain. Her first mate and brother, whom I reluctantly agreed to share quarters with, due to the assumption I would seem less of a sailor than the others, is a good man. Haven't had any opportunity to speak to him in length. He's a hard-working and busy man. He has his vices. Won't say what they are but what man can say they don't have their own vices? It doesn't affect his duties in any way and I think that is what counts.

The ship itself is beautiful and a real piece of work. Had the opportunity to get very intimate with it on several occasions. My job. Since I've been on board, the crew has only seen a few minor skirmishes and the ship was steady and hearty at each confrontation. The fights were mostly with minor pirates trying to relieve the Kuru of its cargo. Mostly trade goods from the Albaelia Island or food and weapons for Luc's siege on Bastion.

Not too familiar with the places I've been lately or the places they talk about. Learning though. Trying to. Not much time for it.

Still, feeling good. Miss some but I feel better than I have in a while.

Have to continue the watch. Write more later.
