Leaning against the fountain in the marketplace, Vicki tapped idly on her phone, every now and then blowing at her hair as it flapped across her face. She wasn't looking forward to today's outing all that much - the company was going to be its one saving grace. Shopping wasn't her favourite task, and shopping for not one, but two dresses excited her even less.
"Do you see what I see -" The blonde sang almost in Vicki's ear. How she snuck up was anyone's guess, but there she was! Tera's hands were deep in the leather jacket that wasn't her own. "I see a turtledove waiting boredly for me."
The redhead almost jumped out of her skin, the phone clattering from her hand onto the cobbles as she yelped in shock. "Tera!" Bending to scoop up her fallen, but thankfully unhurt, phone, Vicki swept up her too-cheerful friend in a hug. "You nearly gave me a heart attack!"
The blonde did look like she was exhausted but there was a smile on her full lips. Scooping Vicki in a matching hug, she cooed, "But what a heart attack it would have been! Wait, isn't it suppose to be you-know-who to make your heart stop?" Vicki was released, her sides pinched playfully.
A secretive little smile swarmed over Vicki's face as she eyed her friend playfully. "Restart it, maybe," she said cryptically, turning to loop her arm through Tera's. "Please tell me you know how to do the girly shopping thing, because I'm at a total loss here."
"Of course I do. But first, the most important question!" Leaning over, Terasa stage-whispered into the red's ear. "Are we wanting some sexy lingerie for afterward? You know ... the kind to shock and awe you-know-who into a puddle?"
On cue, Vicki blushed, a feat previously only accomplished by you-know-who after several attempts. "Oh, god, you're going to make me model lingerie for you?" she laughed, looking at her friend with a wide grin. "Darling, if you want to see my milky white skin, all you have to do is ask!" Laughing, she shook her head. "To be honest, I have no idea. I need a red carpet dress thingy with all the trimmings, and something more comfortable for the after-party. And you're the expert."
Tera smirked and hooked an arm around Vicki's waist. Starting to walk, she shook her head. "Well, I need something too, just less formal. For my interview and all. Got to make myself look somewhat presentable. And don't you worry, dove. He won't be seeing my frillies." She winked and looked Vicki over.
"I find it hard to believe you even own 'frillies'," Vicki laughed, glancing at her friend. "You strike me as a leather and lace type."
"More lace, less leather." Tera laughed and bumped Vicki's hip. "I do have one condition on helping you find this dress."
"And that is?" The redhead's brow rose, not entirely sure she wanted to know what Tera's condition was going to be. As much as she loved her friend, the blonde did have an interesting idea of appropriate - not that Vicki's own ideas were any more appropriate.
"Now, don't laugh." Tera's arm lowered and for once, she looked nervous.
Surprised by this injunction, Vicki paused, looking her friend right in the eye, wiping all humor from her face. "I promise, no laughing," she assured Tera honestly.
"I'm serious, Vicki." She met her friend's eyes. "You are in love with him, right?"
There was absolutely no deception in Vicki's eyes as she answered, the reply coming clear and open without hesitation. "Yes, I am," she told Tera with more confidence than she'd had when she had told Jon himself. A small frown touched her brow. "What's wrong, what's happened?"
"No no, don't frown!" Reaching out, Tera popped the red's cheeks lightly. "It is stupid, really. Forget it! Let's go hit the stores!"
"No, you have to tell me now." Vicki drew back out of the playful pop, catching her friend's hands. "Tell me, what's wrong?"
Her tongue made an appearance, wetting across her bottom lip. The blonde was caught, in more than one sense of the word. "How ... do you know you are in love?"
"That's ... that's a tough question." Vicki laughed a little, shrugging lightly as she turned to continue walking, her arm still looping comfortably through Tera's. "It's different for everyone. I know I love Jon, because I'd do anything he asked me to, without even thinking about it. I know because ... this sounds mad ... I know because I trusted him when he wouldn't tell me what was going on with him. I trusted that he would tell me when he could, and he did. It's really difficult to explain."
Tera was drinking in every single word as she fell into step with her friend. "When did you realize?"
The redhead's smile turned softly introspective, an echo of the smile she'd had when she had realised how she felt. "When I took him to Wales to see a funfair," she chuckled softly. "He mentioned it in passing months ago, it took me ages to set it up. And he was so blown away, so happy ... I realised I wanted to keep him that happy. I've never enjoyed doing something for someone else so much before."
"Oh, man, you got it bad." Tera laughed and looked over. "We are so putting you in something drop dead gorgeous and make you the envy of every woman out there. Not going to guarantee you and Jon will make it to the party though." She winked to the red.
"Don't you dare," Vicki laughed, rolling her eyes. "He has to be there, he's the star. And that's why I have to have two dresses - one for the red carpet, which I am dreading, and one for the party. If I end up distracting him from going to the party, I think Lelah will kill me."
