Elisabetta rounded the corner of a building and right into the center of the marketplace. She took a moment to glance around for the glass shop, and once spotting it made a beeline through the throng of people. Pausing before the entryway, she took a deep breath and shifted the leather box under her arm. Considering she had been up for over 24 hours constructing this gift, she probably looked like hell. Her mid-afternoon bath has been an attempt to hide all signs of fatigue and disarray. Unsure of whether she should knock or just enter, and considering it was a store in the marketplace, she opened the door with her free hand and awkwardly made her entrance.

?Uh? Er? Hello?? Elisabetta called out, looking around nervously as well as partially in awe. The shop was bigger than she had been anticipating, and it definitely was owned by men. She shifted her weight from foot to foot uncertainly, suddenly feeling shy and unsure of what would happen next.

The box was shifted from under her arm to being held in both, and it was held in such a manner that made it look as if her silk ribbon-tied gift was the most natural, normal occurrence in the world. In her eyes, it probably was. It was the sort of thing she did often, after all. Elisabetta enjoyed making people smile.

Bradley Kaiser

Since the death of his daughter, Bradley hadn't been much of a social butterfly--something his brother intended to change. In truth, Bradley was growing tired of feeling depressed, but it was so comfortable a place to be, he had no idea how to change his behavior. The few bonds he'd created over the past year felt as though they'd been severed when Adalia had died and the ability to reform new friendships seemed beyond him.

That was why Ethan had taken to leaving Bradley alone at the shop more often these days. He was usually off somewhere with Maeve or making deliveries to various buyers around town. That meant on top of his daily chores, Bradley had to tend to the customers.

From back in the workshop, he overheard the bell above the door that let them know someone had entered and sighed. He was never going to get anything done today if people kept bothering him. Slipping down the narrow hallway that led to the front store room, Bradley smiled to himself, thinking it was silly to be annoyed that business was regular--it was supposed to be a good thing!

Just before he appeared through the door, he smoothed a hand over his beard and through his hair to make sure he looked respectable. "Good afternoon," he said without looking up as he stepped into the main room. Bradley positioned himself behind the counter, then glanced to the woman. His eyebrows lifted slightly at the sight of Elisabetta, the woman he'd nearly bowled over the previous day.

"Come to serve me with papers stating I can't come within 30 feet of you?" The broad smile on his face and the humor in his eyes told her he was well aware the box she held contained no such thing.

Elisabetta grinned at his comment, eyes alight with mischief. "Mebbe, but ye'll jus' have t' find out! I have got a surprise fer ye!" She quickly crossed the threshold between the doorway and the counter to give him the gift.

"Well, an' yer brother," she added as an afterthough, gently placing the leather box on the counter before Bradley. She took a step back, clasping her hands under her chin as she watched him intently.

"Open it, aye?" Elisabetta encouraged, eager to see the look on his face. Most people just looked surprised, some confused. Either way, she hoped he would appreciate it, at least.

Bradley smiled a bit hesitantly as Elisabetta placed the box on the counter separating them, then reached for it slowly. "A present for us, eh? What could two scruffy old men like us possibly need?" His broad hands fixed themselves around the leather box and pried it open, wondering what was inside.

A thoughtful expression crossed her face. "Well, most likely nanwuht, but ye know.. Ye both gave me inspiration." She looked excited as she watched him open the box.

Inside the box, the miniature statue was nestled against a pad of velvet. It was a marble reincarnation of the Kaiser brothers sharing a good laugh on a bench in the Marketplace. Their faces were defined with as much precision and patience one could muster, the line of their laughs even noticeably. It gleaned in the dusky sunlight of the shop, 'Ethan and Kaiser Bradley clearly etched at the bottom of the figurine.

Her eyes were wide, bubbling with anticipation as she eagerly awaited his reaction.

Bradley's mouth fell open in genuine surprise, his breath nearly taken away by the fine craftsmanship of the statue. Gingerly he let his fingers trail over the sculpture, tracing the smooth lines and edges the artist had most likely spent hours shaping. It took him a moment or two to realize that the two men on the bench were tiny replicas of him and his brother.

"Wow," he managed to finally say. Dark eyes lifted from the statue to settle lightly on Elisabetta. "Where did you get this? It's amazing..I can't believe the detail." He looked from Elisabetta to the statue and back again. "Wait, did you make this?"

Bradley didn't know what to say. A thousand things exploded in his mind, everything from questioning her motives to the desire to offer her a job in the shop. "This must have taken forever..."

Her face lit up as she studied his reaction, relieved to find him pleased with his gift. There is always that lingering pang of worry, but it diminished the moment surprise registered on his handsome features.

Elisabetta was grinning when he looked up to her, and she bit back a laugh as he looked to and fro for a few seconds. "Aye, I am th' one an' only behind th' craftmanship," she declared proudly.

Scultping ran generations through her blood, and even though it was an excellent way of release, it was the aftermath of her artwork that pleased her the most.

"Well, ye know, I did begin it in th' early eve, immediately after our whorrel-winde encounter... And I came hither upon completion," she admitted, albeit sheepishly.
