Duci nearly jumped out of her skin at Ethan's greeting, half-shrieking and eyes wide as she turned around to look at him bashfully. "Oh, gods, sorry," she mumbled, lowering her eyes with embarrassment. She was pleasantly surprised to see how handsome Bradley's brother was, and that made her feel almost guilty, and made her flush even more. Lifting her gaze again, she gave him an interesting look of appraisal as she examined his attire. Licks her lips, giggling nervously. "Yeah, I am..." Glances past him in the direction of his thumbjerk. "If it wouldn't be any trouble... I mean, if he's busy.. I can just.. Wait.." She paused awkwardly, shifting the weight of the Tupperware to one arm.
Ethan gave a deep laugh at Duci's response, though was sorry to have startled her. A smirk given, fingers lifting to rake through dark hair. "No, you just wait here, darlin'. I'll tell him a pretty, blushing blonde is waiting for him." He winked before backing out of the room, screaming for his brother's attention.
About a minute later, Bradley emerged from the hallway. He was shirtless, but wore a heavy leather apron over his chest that fell nearly to his knees. Messy work jeans and boots completed the look--he'd obviously been working. "Hi, Duci!" He flashed a lopsided grin at her, wiping his forehead. "Finally came to visit, huh?"
Though they looked alike, Duci was finding it hard to believe they were brothers. His easy demeanor brought a brighter smile to her face, though did little to rid herself of the faint red hue blooming dangerously along her upper cheekbones. "Thanks," she replied breathily, before his words caused her to flush a deeper shade of red. "Oh, gods," she mumbled, embarrassed again, shaking her head, but sorry to watch him go. Then Bradley emerged, and she grinned, slyly checking him out from beneath that apron. "Hey, Bradley!" she greeted, warming up instantly. "I did, and I brought goodies, too!" Moves the Tupperware to both hands, extending it outward as she stepped in his direction. "I hope you like sugar cookies, snickerdoodles, and lemon bars." She went a little crazy, don't mind her.
"Oh!" That surprised him, and he tried to ignore being checked out. "Wow, baked goods...what did I do to deserve such spoiling?" He was still smiling as he reached out to take the Tupperware from Duci. "I'm going to have to hide this from my brother or he'll eat them all," Bradley went on conversationally, cracking the lid open to peek inside. His crooked grin widened, magnifying the extent of the lack of muscle control he possessed on the left side of his face. "Still up for a tour?"
Duci usually made people uncomfortable, so she merely shrugged her shoulders. "I uh.. Had a bunch of leftovers?" Smooth, real smooth, Duci, way to make him feel special. "I know you work hard, so I figured you could use a good snack now and again." Mentally, she cringed at her lack of suave. She giggled nervously at Bradley's comment, dropping her hands and clasping them in front of her. The blonde looked mightily pleased at his reaction, though, and she bobbed her head up and down earnestly. "I'd love one!"
Truth be told, Bradley was surprised Duci had showed up. He'd been so sure she'd figured out about Shane. Either he was wrong, or Duci just didn't give up so easily. The inner debate caused him to chuckle, and he waved Duci to follow him. "Well, you've already seen the actual shop. Not that exciting, really." He led her down the hallway, tapping on the first door on the left as they passed it. "That's just storage, again...nothing exciting there." He glanced over his shoulder at her, then paused at the next door on their right.
It was the office, where Ethan was seated at the desk. He wasn't working, instead had his feet propped up on the file cabinet, petting a fat calico cat that was sitting in his lap. "You already met my brother, Ethan. He owns the place, so I can't get on his case when he slacks off." Ethan just grinned and waved at Duci again.
Well, she really only had an inkling. And she really wasn't very competitive, but she had to be sure before she backed down. With a smile, she stepped after him gracefully, chuckling softly. "It's more exciting than you'd expect, if you ask me," she quipped, grinning as they passed the storage, thinking of more exciting things. She winks at him when he looks back before peeking in the doorway at Ethan. "Ooh, pretty kitty!" Mrowls at the calico, before blowing Ethan a kiss, laughing at Bradley. "I"m sure there are other ways you can bully him into working." Bright, cheeky grin, winking again.
Lola, the cat, ignored Duci as she was content with Ethan stroking her fur. Ethan laughed at Duci's display. Bradley led Duci on, chuckling himself. "I normally threaten to tell Maeve he's being lazy. That gets him moving." He made a wide, sweeping gesture with his hand to indicate the large garage-type room they now found themselves in. "This is the actual workshop. Back along that wall are the furnaces we use to heat the glass we blow. The work stations are just in front of them, and over there are the coolers and freezers we put the pieces in to set."
Duci snickers, casting one last smile for Ethan before she whisked off after Bradley. She canted her head, taking in the wide expanse of the workshop, another smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. Looking across the making-and-finishing process, she turned to Bradley, eyes alight with wonder. "How long does it typically take? From start to finish?" Duci asked, her tone alive with interest.
"It depends on what we're making. If it's a big enough piece, we have to work together on it. But once it's been shaped, it goes in the coolers anywhere from 12 to 72 hours." He moved to set the Tupperware on one of the work benches next to his leather work gloves.
She leans against one of the work benches, nodding her head as her eyes wandered around the workshop. "How did you get into glassworks?" she asked lightly, tilting her head in his direction as she returned her gaze to him. "And what do you usually make?"
"Our father has always been a jack of all trades. He could pick up any skill and master it within a few weeks. My brother is the same way. He can do pretty much anything. He is a blacksmith, plumber, carpenter, and got into glassworks during his time as a monk in Yasuo. When he moved down here, he convinced me to come, too. I'd learned some things about glass from my dad growing up, and Ethan taught me a thing or two. But he's the real artist." His head dipped in the direction of a door behind Duci. Walking over, he opened it and flicked the light on. "We mostly make drinking glasses, but also dinner sets, vases, and during the holiday season we make ornaments." As he spoke, he pointed out various pieces on the shelves that were waiting to be sold. The stock room was poorly lit, but she'd be able to see the types of things he was describing. "My brother is especially good at making miniature glass sculptures."
It was nice hearing about his family. She smiled brilliantly, crossing her legs at the ankle as she listened. "Sounds like your family has a lot of skills. Where does that leave you, then?" Duci mused, tilting her head and scrutinizing him. Lifting her head, she followed him over her shoulder before stepping after him hastily. "I saw some of the drinking glasses you brought to the inn..." Peeks her head around him, peering into the store room with another grin. "I'll have to place an order for the company ornaments this year; your work is amazing!" Looks up at Bradley with mild adoration. "Glass sculptures?" she echoed, picturing that in her mind's eye, lips tilting into a lopsided smile. "Sounds exquisite."
He was starting to feel a little self concious without a shirt on, a hand lifting to rub at the back of his neck. "Where does that leave me," he echoed questioningly. "I was a music teacher until I moved here. I still play from time to time, but I'm growing to like this work." He smiled easily, moving back out of the stock room. "I'll have to let him know you're interested in the sculptures. He enjoys making them as presents."
She hadn't meant that in a bad way, she meant since he didn't really list any of his own skills.. "I meant.. what.. you're good-- Music, really?" she faltered briefly, sighing softly as she tilted her head at him. "What did you play?" asking softly as she stepped back before he did, giving him space. Light smile for Bradley. "I'd like that, thank you."
"I played a little of everything, sort of in the way my brother has a lot of different talents." As he spoke, Bradley sauntered back over to the work table where he'd set the baked goods down. Time to break into that tupperware! A lemon bar was selected, then the box held out for Duci if she wanted to join him. "But I enjoy the guitar and piano mostly. I like to write my own music."
