The castle gleamed. The fires were light. The many candles in tones of white, red, blue, green, gold and silver. The food was soon to be prepared. hired help walked the rooms, to serve drinks. Snacks of Salted Caramel Pretzel Snaps, Cinnamon Crescent Twists, and Dark Chocolate Banana Bites lay in bowls about the first floor. The dinning hall was decked out in its finest. Other tables sat around for those who came to gather at. Festive throws lay over the backs of couches and chairs. In rich tones of red, green, silver and gold.
The guards stood at the gate which was open to the path way beyond. That path led into the Valley. The Valley of Dae was decorated as well, the sacred tree decked out in lights that floated about it, shimmering in different colors. Snow covered the ground. Ice covered the near by lake.
And the mountains that surrounded the valley were covered with snow.
The city beyond the castle was filled with the scents of winter. Freshly baking bread and goodies. The sweet scents of cinnamon and deep pine.
Children had built snow men. Lights flickered in every window. There was to be a feast there in the town as ell. All would gather and eat. Food had been given out, none here would go with out. Gifts had been given days before. Walked out by the queen and her sisters.
The town was filled with as much light as the castle.
Within the stables hands waited for any horses that might need tending. A carriage awaited for any who wished for a snowy ride after dinner or before. The gardens beyond glowed with lights. The path ways were clear of ice and snow. But all around there was snow, it covered the trees and bushes, it lined the walls. People would be covered up with many layers.
But those coming to the festival inside the castle would find warmth in many places. The rooms filled with light. The soft music that played.
It was all ready.
Salice stood at the base of the stairs. The smell of baking goods and food to be made filled the castle. Salice loved this time of year. Late the night before she stayed awake with Shavyn and Shea. The had sent their gifts off to their children away.
They sat by the lounge fire and looked to the mighty tree that had been decorated by the family. It was no cut tree. It was alive. Brought up from the soil with some help of magic and placed in a huge pot. Then floated within the walls by the help of a wild wind mage.
It shimmered with gold and silver lights, with decorations that were as old as the castle walls. The three sisters shared their gifts for each other. Each a token of time.
It was Salice's most favored part of this time of year. She loved it all, but that moment with her sisters who she held so dear was the best part.
She stood there looking royal indeed. In a dress of long white. It was embellished at the top. A pair of white heels made her a bit taller than normal. Her long silver hair was up in fancy braids to show off the earrings that Shavyn had given her only the night before. She wore an elven bracelet cuff around one arm. Her winter white cloak hung ready encase she wanted to dart out in to the cold.
She would greet every guest. No matter how familiar they were to her. They w all coming here. For not even her sisters had stayed the night. The morning had been filled with helpers tending to little errands and Salice tending to the finer touches in the castle. Soon they would come. Her family. Her friends. Those of the alliance that Shea, Jade or Hera had invited.
Salice smiled looking around. Oh how her father and mother would have loved this. The castle so bright, so full of warmth and love. She waited looking to the closed door. Soon the hour would be upon them, and the party would begin.
