With tentative arrangements made between the viking and the ranch hand to meet at the Marketplace, Shy bides her time strolling along the cobblestones. Stops every now and again to peer at some vendors wares or at items displayed in store windows. Lingers in front of the local candle shop, silently debating whether or not to enter. Held in hand is a small piece of paper containing a short list of things she wants to purchase.

The old ranchhand pushed the order out the door and locked up shop early to meet up with Shylah. Elijah wove in and out and around other folk walking and carriages rolling along the streets, slowing down only when he reached the marketplace. He came around several street vendors and was about to turn down another aisle when he spotted her standing in front of the candle shop. The lines about his weathered face deepened with a smile as he pressed through the crowd to join her.

Though Shy is still trying to make up her mind, something draws her attention and she turns to look to her left. Smiles as she notices the visage of the old cowboy headed her way. A lifting of hand in greeting. "Eel-eye-ja!"

Pushing the stetson up out of his eyes and smilng wide, waves back at Shy, his attention remaining on her and nearly ending up colliding with another fella rushing in the other direction. Elijah sidestepped the fella at the last minute with a murmured, "Begging your pardon, Sir" and moved quickly to the seafarer's side, wrapping his arms around her as soon as he reached her. "Hi, Sweetheart."

Amused that he almost crashes into another in his hurry, chortles merrily. "Uff da, old mann, I be not going to run away or suddenly vanish. At least I hope not. E'erything fint with you?" He gave her a loving squeeze of embrace, his smile lighting up in his eyes. "No suddenly vanishing or running away allowed. Yessum. Everything is right fine now that I'm with you. How's your day?"

"All be well, Eel-eye-ja, except the hunds decided to dig in my flower garden. Who knows hva they be seeking? Tis a godt thing that I had not yet planted any bulbs, but was only preparing the ground!" "Reckon the dogs thought there was buried treasure there. I'll help you fix the garden, Shy, when we get home." Elijah's comment has her laughing heartily. "Ja, hund treasure! Takk, Kj?reste, your hjelp shall be greatly appreciated!"

He nodded to the piece of paper she held in her hand. "How's the shopping going?" Shy glances down at the almost-forgotten list; the small paper carrying the name of one particular store. "I decided to wait to purchase anything until you could be with me." Looks up and around. "I suppose we should locate the shoppe where Piper has her pottery for sale. Tis called, A Stitch In Time." "I'm glad you waited for me. Let's get to finding Miss Piper's shop then." He looked at the piece of paper, then looked up at the shops lining the street, looking at the store names.

"Tis not Piper's shoppe, old mann, tis Lydia's and Erin's." Grins as she reminds him. "Piper said they allow her to display her wares on a few shelves. Methinks A Stitch In Time be a place where garments be sold." He chuckled quietly. "That makes more sense. I was wondering why she'd name a pottery shop A Stitch In Time." He nodded to the candle shop. "Did you want to go in here first, Shy?"

Slide of gaze back to the indicated store. "I do wish to go inside. But I must warn you ... it shall not be so easy for you to get me out. Tis one of my favourite places!" The old ranch hand chuckled quietly, committing the store and its location to his memory. "How about we go look at Miss Piper's pottery first, then stop back here before going home. This way we ain't rushed."

Side-by-side they continue on their way. Matching long-legged strides carry them down the street until they reach another road, one that veers off to the right. Elijah slowed his gait and glanced down the street Shy was looking toward.

"Oh look!" Points to a shop with a sign hanging above the door. Pictured is a needle and thread, an hourglass, and the name A Stitch In Time. "You found it! Let's see what Miss Piper's got to sell." He moved to lead Shy down the street toward the shop she pointed out. "Tis a very unique sign." States as she leans against him while he directs their steps. "Yessum, it is a unique sign. So this is Miss Erin and Miss Lydia's shop?" He reached to open the door for her. "Looks like a right nice place."

"I have ne'er been here before, Eel-eye-ja." Chuckles as she moves indoors. A few steps taken from the entry, further into the store. Gaze moves over the wide variety of apparel on display, for sale. The old ranchhand smiled and followed the seafarer inside. He quickly removed the stetson off his head as he crossed the threshold and looked around at the displays. Now Shy's eyes widen when she glances back toward the door. (w) "Look, Buttah, they have frozen people here too!" Points at the four mannequins with apprehension. Such superstitious ways of the Norse female.

He turned around at what she pointed out to him and spotted the mannequins. He nodded and whispered back to her, remembering her tale of her venture to the mall with Guthorm. "Tailor folk and other folk use them to display clothes or hang clothes to adjust it. They're statues."

Mannequins are rather unnerving to Shy. They spook her, and because of that, really does not like to look at their eyes. (w) "Methinks they be under a spell." Elijah didn't make light of her unease with the mannequins and he gave her a comforting squeeze of embrace. (w) "They ain't real, Sweetheart. They're fake."

Grabs for his hand, wanting that feeling of security she gets from his presence. Pulls her gaze away from those 'statues' as she whispers once again, "Tis hva the magic users want you to think!" Elijah nodded and as she turned away, he stepped in behind her to shield her view from them, taking hold of her hand. (w) "Let's see what Miss Piper's got." Changing the subject.

Nods as she seeks out the shelving with Piper's several works of art. "O'er there, Buttah!" Another pointing, and begins to pull the old cowboy toward that area. He smiled and offered no resistance as she led him, gladly following her to where Piper has her pieces displayed. Each item is studied, and studied some more by Shy. "You mentioned blinders, Eel-eye-ja, for the pirate captain. Methinks a mask be just as fitting."

The old ranchhand chuckled quietly and nodded, looking from the pottery and stonework pieces to the seafarer. "Yessum. A mask would work just as well."

"'Twould be a useless wedding gift, truly. Hva do you think they would do with it?"

"I reckon they can hang it up in the captain's cabin and Miss Jewell can make Stephen wear it whenever he ain't behaving."

That has her laughing. Calms down enough to add, "At least there be hjerte shapes on it. I could always make up some tale about it being some ceremonial mask used in some type of love rite."

"Yessum, couple of heart shapes to remind Stephen his heart belongs to Miss Jewell. There's ring shapes on it too to remind him of the wedding band."

"See na, *you* could hjelp me with the tale!" More chortling ensues.

The old ranchhand laughed. "I reckon Miss Jewell and Stephen would use the mask a lot then. We can have it all figured out and written up to give with the present."

"Kj?reste," speaking quietly, "it shall not bother me in the least to make up such a tale in jest. Could you live with the falsehood?" Elijah nodded. "We ain't meaning no harm with it. I ain't got no problem with a good joke."

"Then tis done! We shall take the mask in payment for hva I gave to Piper." Reaches out and carefully removes that piece from the shelf. It is much lighter than Shy anticipates. Elijah smiled and nodded. He started to the register once she picked up the mask from the shelf. "Na we must leave a note for Piper, old mann." States as she follows him to the back of the shop.

A little puzzled, the ranch hand asks, "Don't we have to pay Miss Piper for it?" With a shake of her head replies, "Nei. I bartered a trade with her. Nei monies is to exchange hands. I gave to her something, and in return I receive a piece of her work. My choice as to hva it shall be."

"Was it them bones you were telling her about at the Red Dragon?" The old ranchhand reached to take the mask from the seafarer so she could write the note to the potter without encumbrance. "Ja, tis so." Quick flick of her gaze to him after he asks the question. Fishes in her breeks pocket for that small notebook she always carries. Withdraws it, opens it up to a blank page and tears it out. Along with the little book is a writing implement.

Begins the neatly scripted note:

Miss Piper,

After careful consideration of your displayed wares here at the shoppe, I have decided to accept the wonderful 'mask' you created as trade for the bones. Tusen takk for allowing me this business transaction. I hope to have another item of your pottery in the future.

Sincerely,
Shylah

Hands it to the old cowboy to read. "How be that?"

Elijah took the carefully written note and read it over, slowly. Then he nodded, handing it back to the seafarer. "That sounds right nice."

"Godt!" Note is then secured near the register where Piper (if not Lydia or Erin) shall find it. Makes sure it will not fall to the floor and become lost before they move away from the counter. The old ranchhand led the seafarer back to the shop door, holding onto the mask and stetson. He made sure he positioned himself between Shy and the mannequins. However, the viking has a question. (s) "While we be here, Eel-eye-ja, would you mind if I looked o'er the garments for sale?"

He stopped and shook his head with a smile. "No I ain't minding it none at all. I ain't got no place to go but spend the rest of the day with you."

"Well na, tis my thinking a male does not truly wish to spend time in a female's clothing shoppe. I can always return later na that I know where tis located." Besides, she just caught another glimpse of those 'statues'. The ranch hand smiled and shrugged his hunched shoulders. "There's other places I'd think of spending time at before at a lady's clothes store, but I ain't minding it none at all with you."

"Tell me where, old mann."

"I reckon, with a fishing pole, with you sitting at my side,
on a boat on a clear spring river for one."

"Oh! I was thinking about various shoppes you mayhaps frequent!" Laughs.

He laughed aloud. "No, I weren't thinking of no shop."

"My mind be on the offerings of the Market Place, old mann. Let us take our leave and retrace our steps, ja?"

"Yessum." He reached around to get the door and opened it for her. "We can stop by that candle shop you like so much."

As they exit A Stitch In Time, Shy knows she will eventually return to this particular store.
