Topic: Over Coffee and Clam Chowder ((Mundane Commentary))

So I've sniffed many of the forums and subforums here and other places. Inspired by them, yes, this is the OOC commentary, general chatterbox-type thing.
Got something to say? Just hi?
Drop a line. Just don't drop the kitchen sink. The repairs would be horrendous. (Yes, my attept at a funny).

Pull up a chair, grab some coffee and the clam chowder will be on in the kitchen.

Just letting the other players/readers out there that I will not be on rarely at all today (Saturday) due to the fact that I am going to a wedding. A Catholic wedding nonetheless. Which means it will happen all bloody day. ...Wahoo.

And! Speaking of not being here. I will also not be here at all from Thursday, the 23rd through Monday, the 27th. ...Going to Seattle for a Comic Convention. Well, a Web Comic Convention, but close enough! ^.^ I know I am getting ahead, but don't worry. I will remind ya'll again that week.

"I've...got...a...

Unicorn's horn in the middle of my forehead
And the antlers of a stag on either side
I've got pointed ears that're something like a deer's
Or something like an elf's, I can't decide

I've got long green hair
To match my flowing emerald mane
That turns red with the oak trees
Every fall

With my goat like eyes
It comes as no surprise
That I've got feathered eyebrows
And that isn't all!"
Mercedes Lackey, Mis-Conceptions

Inspired by that very filk and past encounters, I keep hearing the phrase "This is Rhy'din after all!" and I can't help wondering.
We've got some wild combinations of species here.

What's the wildest combination you've seen?

Honestly, I recall Rayna-mun telling me someone DID make a char based off of that filk, down to the Manticore's stinger and feathered eyebrows. Just wanted to toss in my two-cents worth.

Probably the weirdest one I've ever seen wasn't actually in Rhydin. It was in another place I used to play and it was a deer, crossed with a dragon, add in a fairy, a butterfly, a squirrel's bushy tail and puppy ears and cat claws. And every part of this critter was supposed to be halves. Now how can that be? Sadly I've not been in Rhydin long enough to have seen anything too terribly odd.

Just wanted to pop in and say I'm here. And also, there's a giant-sized bag of chocolate-coated coffee beans for anybody that wants any to go with the clam chowder. :-)

Coffee beans are good.

So to try something a little off-beat here -- Funny, amusing or otherwise humourous quotes, lines or other things seen in profiles around the 'Net.

--A Mundane rule/note in an AOL players profile I found most fitting and amusing--

"The next jade pools I see, I'm building a ladder into."

--A quote I never thought I'd see outside of "Firefly". Serious, but good--

"If I ever kill you, you'll be awake. You'll be facing me. And you'll be armed."

--A question a lovely dame asked while Renne was visiting a place called Castle O' the Moors--

"Is it house-trained?"

------------

And the jester said "Don't make me laugh!"

Gimme That Old-Time...Rhy'Din?

These haven't seen the light of internet until now but I was seriously lacking my muse one night. I was however, quite sober. And I was listening to Joe Bethancourt...

Anyhoo!

My little contribution to the *many* verses of that beloved song and parody "Old Time Religion". These are done in the spirit of the Maritime Tavern. --Might or might not be accurate, might have some language.--

I may dream up others for....well, who knows. And I issue a challenge! --

-- Sort of.

A challenge to dream up a verse to a possibly-maybe-ever-growing song I like to call "Old Time Rhy'Din". And if any verses have a story to them, feel free to share.

----------------------------------

We will pray to the Mari-time
Have a fun and oh-so-scary-time
Truth or Dare raunch and rhyme
And it's bad enough for me.

We'll worship a scrawny Welshman
Who carries a damn fine gun, man
Careful, he's a sly little bastard and
That's good enough for me.

I'll nod and build a shrine to
A biscuit who can faint on cue
And talks like a sailing prude
And that's cute enough for me.

We will pray to a lass named Sirin
Whose beauty we can't be curin'
Bosom ogling we'll be doin'
And that's good enough for me.

I'll arise at early morning
When ol' Sir gives me the warning
Truth or Dare, that age is dawning
And it's raunch enough for me.

I'll build a shrine and sacrifice a lamb
To a lovely blonde Mah-dam
Ma'am Kennedy, petticoat and grand slam
And that's good enough for me.

There is one thing that I never understood...why do people place the WHOLE entire lyrics to a song as their profile?? I never understood that while I am still doing AOHell RPing (Yes, I am one of the FEW Free-Lance RPers still out there) and I see it in other folks' profiles---and I sure as Hells don't understand it with these profiles. Do people expect a song to explain their charrie's ways of thinking or how they are?? No. To me, theme songs are just there saying "Hey. If I was ever to have a soundtrack, this will be the main theme."

Sorry. Just wanted to rant that small bit.

shadowed_voices

Date: 2007-08-11 19:15 EST
I know it. That's stupid. I mean if you're gonna describe a character, then by all means describe the character. But the whole lyrics to a song? Um nooo. And another thing that drives me nuts is I know someone who has two lines from an Inkubus Sukkubus song as their screen name! That gets annoying to read. And someone else has two lines from "Mary Jane's Last Dance" by Tom Petty in theirs. I like Mary Jane's last Dance but not as a screen name. It's just too long. Ok. End rant. :=-)

shadowed_voices

Hrmm. Does it have to be AOL/YIM/MSN/whatever your messenger of choice is? If not, I've got one. I was surfing Livejournal one day and came across a profile that stated the following:
"I have big boobs. I know how to use them. If you don't have them, don't friend me." And I went "What? Huh? Weird." and flipped on past.
Another would be odd screen names. I know someone whose screen name is "Who will feed me and protect me from the evil monkey who lives in my closet?" That was later changed to "Introducing the Bedlam Balognas."\

CaptainTapole

Date: 2007-08-11 19:29 EST

::snickers::

Odd screen names. Lyrics in profiles. Seen a lot of them and though I put a dash of poetry in mine, I've got entirely WAAAAAAAAY too much info to stick in one little profile.
But that's th ebeauty of web design, whoo!

Good little bit in Old Time Rhydin!

Tea all around -- oh dear stars, I'm watchin' Doctor Who again.

Anyhoo.

Random question, has anyone ever seen "Spaceballs"?
Yes I know, random.

Curiosity -- Character depth. How "deep" should one's character be, be it deep-thinking, deep history, anything?

CaptainTapole

Date: 2007-08-11 20:07 EST
I can totally recite the whole movie. ...And yes, I am so stoked for the new cartoon.

Oh. And it just needs to be "deep"??? I guess.

NightRunner

Date: 2007-08-11 20:14 EST
There's a...cartoon of Spaceballs?
That's kind of scary but Mel Brooks is...an odd duck.

Deep. You know. Long history, philosophical thinker, that kind of deep.

Random curiosity from someone who thinks entirely too much.

CaptainTapole

Date: 2007-08-11 20:18 EST
But that is one of the many reasons why I love you. ^_^

But yeah. It's gonna be on G4. It's a TV Network.

And it just also depends on how deep you need to be to explain your charrie--or your thoughts.

NightRunner

Date: 2007-08-11 20:25 EST
Aw, geez. Might try and catch it then. And true, that on characters.

CaptainTapole

I know that I should be away from the topic of "Songs in Profiles" but Gods! Someone had "To Be With You" by Mr. Big!! I found that REALLY funny.

shadowed_voices

Date: 2007-08-12 00:24 EST
Space balls..Hrmm. I think I saw that one. I DO know who Mel Brooks is simply because there's a dorky little cartoon in which he plays a sheep. Now think about THAT for a second. And somebody put "To Be with You" by Mr. Big in their profile? Um. That's bizzarre. Very bizzarre.
Now for the big boobs comment. I utterly agree. I have big boobs. And Noooo I've got that Sir Mixalot song stuck in my head now! :-(( Noooooo! But yeah. Big boobs never helped me get my way yet. Only thing I can do with 'Em is stick my shoe under them. But yeah.
G4? Is that a channel? I've not heard of that one but I would like to see the Space Balls cartoon. And as for character development, I like developed, unique and quirky characters. For example I like both Renne and Johnathan. I just WISH I was half as good at character development as you two are. For me to even play a character HALF convincingly there has to be a good chunk of who I am woven into the character as well. I can improv but it's been way too long since high school theater classes. And yep. For anyone who cared to know, I do talk to my characters.

CaptainTapole

Date: 2007-08-12 00:46 EST
If you only knew about Johnathan and Renne. But no matter! ^_^ I am sure you are able to create a well-imaginative charrie.

But yes, G4TV. An excellent network. Basically Video Games and Technology informative channel--while oddly playing Cops, Cheaters, JKX, and Star Trek-Original. But yeah! I think the cartoon starts in September.

Too Far? Or Not Far Enough?

There are tons of players out there and even more characters. I've seen anything from the insanely simple to the complex. I've seen places where everything about a character (or creation as I term it) is known and others where virtually nothing is known up-front and must be discovered in play.

Question.

How much should be revealed about a creation? How much is wise to reveal and how much should remain a mystery until it is necessary?

I ask this mostly out of sheer curiosity but I also ask because I admitit -- my critter is a complex little thing and thanks to his species being something I came up with, I often wrestle with that question. Especially if/when serious situations come up.
I also tend to go on the complex side when it comes to biology, flaws, talents, etc.
Hence again, an aspect of wrestling with "Okay. How much of my work should I reveal before it's 'too' much and Iend up getting exploited?"

Just a curiosity and possible attempt at a discussion.

How much should be revealed about a creation? How much is wise to reveal and how much should remain a mystery until it is necessary?

All 'creation' part aside, I just play it on a case by case basis. Whatever feels right at the time.

NightRunner

Makes sense.

Though I've asked myself this question before. Mainly when situations cme up and things get serious -- a night in '06 comes to mind when I'd first scrambled to get a page up.

Pages and such tend to be at least semi-permanent and relatively consistent. They also, while providing good mundane info, have been used as cross-play instruments in the past.
That's mainly the angle I'm aiming of "How much is too much?"

HGLowe

I could probably write everything. And if someone used it ICly without having learned it, I'd just call 'em on blending.

NightRunner

True, that. And now you have me doing the personality thing again. ;-) Clever, evil you! No just kidding.

---------------------

Personalities Identified, Inanimates Personified

I've taken many personality tests and other such quizzes over the years. Some years ago, I wrote a short story (I don't think it's a drabble and certainly too vague to be any one fanfiction!) and I wrote it without any idea that I'd end up thinking of myself and things around me in a plethora of ways.

When my grandmother passed and we redid our living room with her favourite couch and reading chair, I thought back on my story.
When I sat in her chair, I had a thought. "This chair is a philosopher's chair."
Then, came this thought. "I am a fortress."

So, I examine my way of thinking and release another bit of curiosity.

I am a fortress on land. A ghost ship man-o'-war at sea.

The Fortress/Warship
I find trust something to be earned. Hard-earned at that. I take friendship extremely seriously. I am the type to hold intellectual exchanges, seek out curiosities and understand the world around me with intensity.
If the walls should be breached, there is strong loyalty to be found and an undeniable instinct to form a strong bond that is meant to last.
However, in matters close to the heart, I am guarded and often have trouble discerning "Friend" from "Scam". At times, the instinct to guard becomes too guarded and can come off as cold, stentorian and even distant.

There's no quiz or the like with this little snippet. Just a bit of thinking and reflection. It interests me, understanding the world and oneself as related to objects or places around you.

What do you think you are, or would be, if you were an inanimate object?
Do you think others, should they get curious and do this, or I, am accurate?

I'm starting to think, D, that we need to consider requesting a folder just for the trial itself. ::chuckles:: Given the number of muns, nevermind characters involved, we're halfway taking over the boards.

Oi. I'm not sure what we can do with this. Maybe crosspost everything to Rhy'Din Town Center; I wonder if Amaltea and them will mind us actually using the container folder for this. I'm pretty sure it can be done.

NightRunner

Aw geez! ::dies:: Is it really getting that gigantically enormous? Ow!
I could consolidate everything to this one but things are happening all over the place. And he trial thing is....How permanent would you call it?
Any thoughts on that?

HGLowe

Date: 2007-08-21 18:42 EST
If I knew, I'd tell you. I have no idea how things are going to go. Harry's prosecuting, but he's also working with Sev (FBI missing persons girl) to track down the witnesses and families and such of the victims. Then he's gotta work with Elena on the psychology front. Renne's working with Chryrie, Ewan's been watching the case, Dewey's been given summons, and Johnathan's been planning a jailbreak with Stephen and Jewell. And I'm sure there are others in there I've missed.

I'd say that it's gotten pretty big, but I have no idea how it's going to go; I'm only ultimately responsible for my one character -- the NPCs like Wright and the clerks are gonna be in the background because it's on the prosecutor to run the case. I mean, if you think about it, it's like the chaos theory incarnate here!

Cailet

Make a folder called "Rhydin Municipal Courts" Then any future "trial" stories anyone has can go there.

NightRunner

Holy!

Yeah, that's huge. Way huge. I can still do the timeline easily enough here. Oi. That's still a lot of people/things though even with the junk in th ebackground. If you like, I can handle the witnesses and I still have the "resident jerk" Malcolm. I can even pull out Ada a bit more if need be.

Hmm...Cailet has a darn good idea there! A subfolder not just for this, but for any future trial, elagl-related story and such things that deal with courts(legal, criminal, civil, whatever).
That sounds like a pretty good thought there.

Methinks I'll stick a poll up for that one. I mean it sounds like a decently involved subfolder that people way aside from me and/or us may be using.

CaptainTapole

...Uhh, just letting ya'll know, the potential break-out won't happen until after the trial--whatever the verdict/sentence may be. Before Harold-Mun gets angry on the next Retro that shall be posted about ten minutes or less after this is posted; I just want to say--It was over four-hundred years ago...and since neither Harold-Mun (I am assuming) nor Renne-Mun know that far back with the Lowe/Moody family tree; I purposely made the Lowe name make an appearance. Silly String....insidious stuff!

It's good for harmless or mostly harmless pranks. Mentioning pranks, and pardon me but I'm wired off of tea and tailgating (Our football team got smashed as always. I like our team and all but we seriously stink!) so I'm a touch between hyper and wanting to crash.

Practical jokes, pranks, that sort of thing. *Harmless* of course. No destroying property or hurting anyone -- Have you done anything like that?

Me? I did. Once.

The mayo jar was empty so I took it and refilled it (cleaned of course) with sour cream. Harmless, no one was allergic so I could thoroughly enjoy the sounds of "WHAT THE ----- IS THIS?!" "HOLY ---- IT'S SOUR CREAM!" And the hooting laughter of fellow college freshmen.
Yes, tame for college but I never had any real harmless-prank lessons!

Anyhow, for laughs, inane humour or whatnot. What's your harmless prank?

I have a similar one. I was at a family reunion BBQ and at the condiments table there were three kinds of pickles: Dill, Sweet, and HOT!. So....anyways  me and my older brother thought it would clever to switch the pickles. I was about 13 at the time and somehting like that was pretty funny to me at the time.

When I was about 11 and my sister was 15, I remember--as a belated (two months belated) April Fool's joke--we would hide both of my parents' car keys. Luckily both of them were off from work that day and they wanted to go...I think it was to the grocery store. Anywho. They searched, along with my sister and my "help", ALL around the house for a good twenty minutes. My sister and I finally caved in--by dying of laughter.

We hid it underneath the animals' food/water bowl. It was entertaining to see my parents looking frantically around the house.

Ouch. Still, other than the reflux/allergy, I'd imagine that to be pretty funny. I know of many pranks that were told to me from classmates, etc. I don't think I'd pull any of 'em off since some of them border on potentially mean.

Want a musical-movie that makes you all warm and squishy on the inside?? Go see Across The Universe.

Also, send a thought to my aunt if anyone can, yes? Many thanks.

Crossposting this one from MutualEndeavours. And the idea of a Rhydin Wiki. So I thought I'd share my thought here too.

-From ME-
Dunno if I'm out of place or whatnnot but an idea/thought occurred to me.

Some years ago, long time ago, back in....'02 I think, I was just drifting around and I encountered something interesting: A map of the known RP world.
Now no, this map didn't include very many places -- maybe five or so places/realms/kingdoms/what-have-you. And no, it isn't anything close to my original idea -- no way. I encountered this in a place called Kavanagh.

And I had a thought when I started reading/hearing about this Rhydin Wiki thing.

What if one or many of us did somehting like that? A "Map of the known RP World" including both Rhydin and other places that people play or have gone to? I've thought about submitting such a thing since I've seen, encountered, been in, been through, however you want to put it....a whole-helluva-lot of places that are near Rhydin, adjoining to Rhydin or somehow "there" in the RP world.

Again, just a thought and should I find Kavanagh going again, I'll find the ruler thereof and ask about possibly expanding on the idea of a "map of the known RP world". The map I remember encounterring had Rhydin, Kavanagh and neighbouring realms that were classified as "The Rim Kingdoms".

I'm thinking....something broader. Much broader since again, I've seen so many places. And again, I'm absolutely not trying to rip anyone off or the like. I was reminded of what I'd seen and the thought of "Hey. Lots of realms out there. beyond Rhydin and even the Rim. What if...?"

If anyone likes, I could submit what my mind's-brain perceives as the "known RP world, Rhydin and beyond" to whomever likes this and wants to run with it.

well check it out if you feel like. As far as the countries/lands created all of them are public use I suppose save for Plygrethia and Emerald Ridge. Plygrethia being mine (Cinder's) and Emerald Ridge belonging to the Dethwynds. I tried contacting the creator's daughter I didnt get a reply back so I hope it's okay to go ahead. If you like this one I can always do some teamwork with you Ren mun or you too Johnathan mun..are the tree of us the only posters here? I should have started this froum thing sooner. maybe we all can work on some huge map or whatever, I love drawing them up.

Well. If I knew how to draw, I would definately draw out the North RhyDin Harbors, its Port-Town and the surrounding towns and villages. But...I can't even draw a stick figure very well.

As for the postings, yes. We are the only ones who do so in this folder...We are not in any of the "cliques." But if Sarah-Mun wants to join o'er here, I am quite certain that Renne-Mun would be more than happy to have her around here.

"Remember, remember
The fifth of November
The Gunpowder treason and plot
I know of no reason
Why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!"

Yes, November fifth -- Guy Fawkes night. Or Bonfire Night, established in commemoration of the gunpowder plot of 1605. Guy Fawkes was the most famed of these plotters intent upon blowing up the Parliament building.
Revolutionaries, dissidents, martyrs to their cause. However they are seen, November 5 is celebrated amost-worldwide even today.

My own roots beg me to commemorate this day, so i do in my own small method since I can't do the ful-on fireworks and burning-a-likeness-of-Guy Fawkes-in-effigy.

So, has anyone a way or a day to remember in November?

Due to Renne-Mun back at home for the Holidays/Possibly-Moving/Something-Else-That-I-Have-No-Clue-But-I-Thought-It-Would-Be-Nice-To-Have-A-Fill-In-The-Blank-Kind-Of-Thing-Here and little ol' me just sitting around, being bored and going COMPLETELY insane----ALL your fault, Renne-Mun----after this coming up Saturday (The 22nd,) there will be a miniature pause on The Inane-Outsider and Blue-Critter Show! As for the The Elf and Red Show, I am hoping I can watch more...since this and the 360 (and come Christmas, the Wii with my 'rentals) will be the only form of entertainment due to the Writers' Strike. ~_~ Anywho! Enough of my babbling. If any of the readers out there want to hop in, then please do! The more, the merrier!

And if any of the readers are wondering why I refer the folder as shows, 'cause I LOVE TV. That and I just find it funny. Oh!! And in the New Year, I am hoping for cross-over episodes! Since we are on the same RDI TV Network owned by the DM. Kinda like ABC Family is owned by ABC which is owned by Disney and/or Touchstone. Since Touchstone did kinda branch away from Disney. Sorry. Shutting about TV now.

Okie!! I lied! I have to do a commerical.

This babbling commentary has been brought to you by your local County Vital Records. The letter "R." The number "7." And a book called "Season Finale: The Rise and Fall of WB and UPN" ...Okie, I cannot remember the complete subtitle, but it is called "Season Finale" and it truly is about the rise, the fall and the merge of the WB and UPN. REALLY good. If you're such a freak about TV--and more quiet about it than I am--go check it out at your local book store!

Commercial over! Roll end credits. Add in instrumental edited version of theme song.

The players here in the Across the Sea of Stars would like to wish all players/readers a happy holiday. And please, do not drink and drive. Drink responsibly. And also. No drunk-dialing either.

Not fond of clam, is crab okay? Perhaps a lobster bisque? <
Twas my intended Subject headline.

Sorry,

Ive gone on about alot of weird rants and posts recently for that I apologize.

I've been feeling pretty down and partial to abandonment. Seems IRL is a big playing card for me this year, for Cinders downfall. Ive lost alot of friends and feel pretty down I don't know what but I'm hoping to stick through it all for a select few.

I'm hoping I can contribute something to everyone here on the ATSOS Family. Perhaps a joint effort post. I want to work something in again with Renne and Johnathan, perhaps others if commited.

A musical, or something close to it. You both are creative and well written folks, as for me I can learn. Is it a failed idea or is it possible?

Well im thinking of the musical, it's a good idea and hopefully it will come into play down the road. Id like to start something epic unless I have already done so with nearing 20 combined posts for a SL.

Im going to rewind a bit when there was a mention of the movie Across the Universe? yes? Im still waitting for it to arrive in my mail. I heard the performace by Jim Sturgess and enjoyed it very much.

Has anyone seen the movie Once and did they like it? I happened to love it a lot. I seem to repeat the songs quite often on my pod. Ah well, I'm hoping all is well with everyone and still waiting to see what is next for the Blue Rascal and the Sasstress of the Sea. Ah yes ,given a nickname to Nathan have I. Squee!!! Oh, Jim. How do I love thee?? More of a Joe Anderson, though. Reason? He's Maxwell. And he has a silver hammer!! ^_^

The soundtrack to Once is super-good. Doesn't help that I love duets.

Although, I have been listening to the Walk Hard Soundtrack and the Juno Soundtrack lately. Oo! And the new Jack Johnson. ...And a long and geeky/lovey-dovey/weird playlist that is--for an odd-reason or another--named "Dani-Renne."

....Does it HAVE to have the "ess" at the end??? One of my odd pet-peeves. Could it be..."Sassycass Of The Seas"? 'Cause it's funnier. Plus. "Damn you, Sassycass!" is just amusing to say.

Hidey-Ho, Good Writers and Readers!

For those folks who are getting confused with Jarrod's Time-Hiccup...it's basically Battlestar Galactica.

Now. Since the good amount of us are nerds and watch it--or at least have heard of it--it's inbetween Seasons 3 and 4...and obviously after D'Anna (AKA "Xena, Cylon Princess") was permanently depleted. It would be most entertaining for the Time-Hiccup to go WWWAAAAYYY forward in time.

I added in that Jarrod was really model thirteen...but just simply rearranged it so that he could take over D'Anna's spot.

Now. I don't know how far I am going to take this hiccup--my Muse is just telling me to write what he babbles about; so I do.

Anywho! For the folks who are still confused; below is a link for episode-by-episode recaps of the whole series--up to the finale of Season 3 (And it includes Razor!) WARNING! Be prepared for snarkiness. Entertaining all in all, though.

Battlestar Galactica

Below is the Wiki formatted synopsis of the whole series.
Battlestar Galactica--Wiki-Style!

For some odd reason, it will not let me do a direct link for the explanation of Cylons and Humanoid-Cylons. But it's in Wiki, too! I promise! With visuals as well!! ^_^
Okie. Let's hope that all of it clears any confusion.

EDIT TO ADD

I would like to thank Adalia-Mun for thinking of this Time-Hiccup Playable concept. And I would like to thank Sci-Fi channel for bringing an awesomely-bad show (the 70's/80's) into a GENIUS of a show.

Slight PSA here.

My apologies to the folks participating with me, alongside me and just any of the AtSoS clan. Mundane Life has dictated my slowness in posting. However, to keep things properly dated and organised, I will date things. You might have seen such things lately, i.e. the "Dated"-whenever lines below post titles.
This is to give perspective on when the posts were actually WRITTEN and a semi-loose-ish idea of when events actually took place.

So again, my apologies for slowness to the Stars crew and to any curious readers who might on a chance, be on the edge of your seat in mock suspense.

And by the by, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Ghentmun and L!

Hey there.

Just an FYI, Duos Oros Equitas' notice of a leave-of-absence is moved/quoted here to avoid confusion in the Sticks and Stones thread.

OOC: LEAVE OF ABSENCE
I am posting on behalf of the mun. There has been a death in the family and he will need to take an indefinite hiatus to deal with some legal matters which have arisen.

Thoughs go with him and his family.

--A Small Notice--

I am afraid I Remember You will be on a small freeze for the next few days. A close friend of mine has asked me to attend her at the funeral of her child. The baby passed away yesterday afternoon and was one from a set of twins.
My apologies again for the delay.

The next chapter to the Side-SL is in the works! What is it, might you ask?

After the long-talk with the iPod...

A Musical!

That's right, Kids! Choreographed, lyric-filled, and yet still tells the wacky inane tales of Johnathan and her quest to find Renne!

After heavy influence with an autobiography that I am currently reading and my muse just going insane--along with the discussion oh-so-long ago with Renne-Mun and Cinder-Mun--each post will be like a music video. There will be a preemptive intro post to the new chapter beforehand to explain how it works. But for now, please wait patiently while I frantically finish my homework before continuing on with the posts.

Sounds awesome and I am looking forward to seeing it. I've found everyones posts very interesting, everyone has me enthralled but now, with this you may take the cake.... I'm putting much pressure on this musical cause I have high hopes for it.

I know you will do excellent though :) . I wish I could have a part in it, perhaps I shall do a musical too later down the road. I am uncertain however where to go for I may go over my budget...

Velvet red curtians? Exquisite lighting? Beautiful Orchestra?

I want a musical!

NightRunner

Post Removal/Tweak

I am removing this post for several reasons.

1. The event this post relates to did not happen online, through play, nor was it concerning a disagreement or such about play. It refers to an event that occurred off-line and far away from any relevance here.

2. We all have the occasional need to rant, vent, let off steam, whatever. The trouble is doing so maturely -- egads, even I admit to screwing that up sometimes. However, some rants belong in some places and not others. I don't mind a single bit the occasional rant or biznatch-fest.
Except when it comes to things completely irrelevant to online/writing/gaming events.

3. Flaming, trolling, whatever you call it -- and correct me if I get the vocabulary wrong here. All of us are guilty of it at some point or another, whether we like to admit it or not. Again, that falls under the "Nobody's perfect, learn and rise above it" clause.
Rise above it. Off-line events don't belong here unless they have serious relevance (i.e. health issues that may leave friends out of contact, emergencies, happy things you might go "Squee!" about, other engagements that may leave a tale quiet for a while, etc.).
Flame wars -- do *not* go here.
Period.

Across the Sea of Stars spun off of the unfortunately former Maritime subforum. I'm proud of this little corner of imagination and wish to see it continue in the full spirit of its predecessor.

The Prodigal Daughter has returned!

...Okie, not really prodigal, but I have still returned!

Uhm. Due to work and school, I was abruptly and unannounced pulled away from the RPing Worlds in general.

But now! Now being on unemployment (I know, laaammme) and being on hiatus with school until March 1st--and my brain exploding with untold/unwritten stories for nearly a year-and-a-half, I have come back.

I will be catching up on all the story-arcs and whatnot in this little-awesome forum and others that I remember reading.

It will probably take me a bit to catch up, but probably by next Monday (2/1) I will start a new thread. This thread, though, will be a backlog of what has happened to Johnathan from the sucky cliffhanger that I left y'all with to probably about a month ago. More of that of how it will work will be on the thread itself.

In the meantime! I am glad to be back...so this metaphorical throbbing headache of writing can stop.

I managed to view most of the ceremonies and I must say: They were absolutely and positively beyond astounding. The combination of holographics imaging, 2-d imaging, even going so far as to use the audience itself as part of the panoramic canvas was...amazing. The beginnings of the ceremony included introductions from the Canadian aboriginal peoples that pre-date colonisation by the British and the French.

Truly amazing.

Even despite the torch malfunction.

And they handled one bit with extreme and proper dignity: One of the athletes, Nodar Kumaritashvili of the Republic of Georgia, was killed earlier in the day from a luge accident.
He had rounded a turn on the luge, lost control of his sled and ended up thrown into a metal support beam beyond the ice. Kumaritashvili was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Vancouver, you did amazingly. I am proud of my Canadian heritage, as Mum puts it, I am a Canamerican.

Just wanted to give our posters and readers a heads-up.

I will be going back to school (yay...I think) on Monday (03/01) so postings will be a smidge bit slower on my part.

The reason why only a "smidge bit slower"--I'm still unemployed...technically. I'm in a temp agency, so it's whenever they contact me or whatever.

As March and April progress, it may be just the same pace, since my father will be having neck surgery (date on that is still in the unknown stages) so I will be watching him very carefully until he's mostly recovered. Nothing life-threatening at all, just placing titanium E-bar so he could move his neck again.

So yeah, just letting y'all know. I didn't go AWOL again.

This Week's Antagonist

Date: 2010-09-03 17:55 EST
In regard to the upcoming SL, there is a bit of inspiration from Stargate SG-1. We obviously do not own them or anything related to them. In the upcoming story, there will be major differences and nothing will be a "direct takeoff" from the series.

This Week's Antagonist

Date: 2010-09-06 02:17 EST
The Jaffa.

You might be familiar with the word and the race from Stargate SG-1 and there are definite inspirations from the aforementioned science fiction series. However, these Jaffa are not your Stargate Jaffa.

You won't find Goa'uld, Toc'ra or even any Stargates in the upcoming series, introduced in Dark of the Moon. In fact, the only things that are borrowed from Stargate SG-1 are the word "Jaffa" and how these Jaffa look regarding dress and armour. Other than that, these guys are not related to the series.

Even so, there is no claim made on Stargate SG-1 or any of its spinoffs. Anything Stargate related belongs to its creators. Everything else belongs to myself and the mun of players that participate.

So, what are the Jaffa, if not the Stargate Jaffa?

As of this point, they are only known to be armoured humanoids with one single objective: Acquire as many people labeled as "Surplus" and bring them to their superior. In the minds of these Jaffa, there are two types of people: Jaffa and Surplus. If one identifies as Jaffa, then one is understood to have a place in society. A business, connections, family relations or social influence.
If labeled as Surplus, simply put, you are expendable and meaningless to society at large. This is who the Jaffa seek. Their objective remains unknown.

Strengths
Firearms - The Jaffa armour deflects most traditional and lycan-intended bullets. Traditional firearms do little more than make dents.
Magic - Spells are deflected, again, by the armour. This includes unwilling telepathic or empathic contact.
Physical prowess - The Jaffa know how to fight and are much stronger than your average human.

Currently Known Weaknesses
Agility - The armour provides much protection but it comes at a cost of the ability to move in quick turns or with any real control. They're about as agile as a rhinoceros.
Potions - Unlike spells, potions can be more chemical based and thus, have some effect on them.
Arrogance - These Jaffa have a serious superiority complex. As they say, "Pride cometh before a fall".
These will be updated as progression goes on.

The story we are hoping to get going is open to any and all who wish to participate. We ask for no instant fixes though, as we are attempting to develop a progressing story. If you wish to participate, feel free to PM This Week's Antagonist or NightRunner. The latter also has the option of AIM.

*There is the strong possibility of mature content not suitable for those sensitive or younger readers. Posts will be marked appropriately but consider this the first warning.*

Given many have conflicting schedules, most of the story will take place via the forums under Across the Sea of Stars. If you wish to add or react somehow to the story but have a post or thread of your own, PM the link so we may keep the thread archive accurate and as up-to-date as possible.

Still alive, though it may not feel like it on karate nights. But yes, still alive and still here. Writing will commence once the brain block is removed.

Right, so story-writing is a slight bit more on hold than I'd hoped or predicted. But, that's what happens when nature says it's time for you to catch a head cold. I'll be back to writing as soon as I'm able to think with all sails in my head.....and when I can actually breathe again.

Breathing is good. And I want it.

Still working on things. Drafts are in the works amid massive planning...and getting my proverbial tail kicked.

Right.

So. Thanks to these spammers that need to be eliminated off the bloody 'Net, all topics in Across the Sea of Stars will be locked unless or until it is an active, running thread with expected replies.

Across the Sea of Stars went quiet for a while -- gotta love Munlife, no? -- but I do believe it is back. (Thank you, Amaltea!) Life has taken some very interesting turns and an addition to my little household. Specifically, a pet rabbit! So, shall return to writing like mad amid training and caring for the brand new Bun.

With this, I'll be editing the chronologies to better keep track of them -- I'll try not to nix any posts in the process but if it happens, I do apologise in advance.

I was scheduled to continue Zhang Sanfeng tonight but it's Veterans' Day and something other came to mind. I thought about the veterans, both those gone past and those still with us.

I couldn't help but think of my father, William Francis, Jr.

Dad,

I met you three times in my life but I think I knew you before then. I knew you were a musician -- a fine one at that. I knew you traveled the world and encountered amazing things. And I knew you were a veteran, even if I was forbidden to speak of it when I was younger.

You told me a single story of your time in Vietnam. You told me of the horrors you met and of the hope the civilians gave you. You told me of a soldier friend of yours and that he'd never come home. And you told me you came home with a purple heart.
How did you do it?

How did you react to your forever-bound civilian kid who was given a grim prognosis upon birth? How did you handle the fact that I couldn't put on a uniform even if I knew I could do such a duty? I don't know. I found a path though, that has the same sort of honour. It's a path I know I can follow and I do so with complete and utter joy.
Fourteen years ago, I glimpsed this path in a tiny Tennessee dojo and began learning the art of Karate. This little Dojo did't last too long, and in a year and a half's time, it shut down without a word.

It took me fourteen years and a daring, somewhat frightening and very uncertain race to another end of the country to find it again. It took a would-be Sensei and her string of betrayals to all the more firmly plant what Pen had taught me about friendship and loyalty into my head.
It took a switch to a new Dojo to bring me back into something I never thought I'd find again.

And Dad, I can't be a veteran. I can't be a soldier. But that's okay. You were one and despite the duties you had to do, I know you did them with honour. I know you acted with honour on the field and off. Bushido might not be the same thing exactly, but honour factors into it quite strongly.

If you were still alive, I would've liked to show you this path of mine.

I'll have some of my Fu-Ki tonight for you. And I'll remember your buddies in Vietnam, Korea, Germany and any other battlefield that never got to come home.

Love you, Dad,
--D. Francis

Happy Holidays and apologies for slight slowness in Zhang Sanfeng. Getting some art/illustrations done and well. Martial arts class has intensified quite a bit, so I may be sporadic. Thankee.

Apologies for the slowness with Zhang Sanfeng of late. Mundanely, there's a distinct probability I will be moving again in the next month or so -- house hunting and all that in a better city with more opportunities. So again, apologies. More will come as I'm able to post it.

Welp, it is now official. As of February 18-20, I will be moving to Santa Fe, NM! Brand new apartment, better opportunities and more writing lie in wait!

My apologies for the slowness with Power Densetsu. Mundane life has come up, what with job possibilities and all that, but I shall get to future installments as soon as I can.

Still here, though may be going away for a short bit. Going to go pay respects to Pen and my dad this month. Life is all right, jobsearch still slow but things will settle. And when they do, I will continue with Power Densetsu (and date them accordingly of course).

NightRunner

Ah, the delays of life. Hopefully this will be the last time I delay anything but what one needs in Mundane life, one needs. However, I do my best to keep Across the Sea of Stars up and going.

My, my. The RDI muse is moving so slowly, blast. Still, I'm here and working on Power Densetsu amid a slew of other projects. I will continue to keep Across the Sea of Stars going for as long as I can. I'm proud of this thing, after all.

On the status of writing:

Power Densetsu is on a bit of a hold right now, and will be for a small while. This will give me time to refine the whole thing and make sure it flows like I wish it to and, I hope, avoid certain writing mistakes. In the meantime, other stories will come, taking place in and around Rhydin unless otherwise specified.

I so feel your pain in regard to mundane life getting crazy and hectic. It seems to me, that the older we get....the more it swirls. But alas, it too shall go on.

That being said, it should also be said that I am hooked on every installment you make, my dear and I cannot wait until the next.

Well done, kudos and all of that stuff.

I bid you much peace in the throes of craziness.

Still here. Things, while slow they have been, have ground to a sudden halt momentarily, and for this I apologise. But, there's been a death in the immediate family, so I'm kind of slow to help take care of things on that end.

And Suffer the Little Children will have one or two final segments before I begin any further arcs.

Sorry again and thank you for your patience, to those who are immediately participating with me.

Mundane life strikes again. Nastily. And, as a friendly forewarning to folks: Beware of scammers. They've increased in number and some will pose as legitimate entities such as Publishers Clearing House. ASK ALL OF THE THINGS. Seriously. Some folks in our city got weaseled out of their own retirement, and that was just one case.

Anyhoo, apologies again for being slow to those who might read this corner of Dragon's Mark.

Oh, LIFE! At times like this, I feel a bit like Dan Vs. Alas, writing is slowed to a screeching halt as Mundane life eats me alive. But, Across the Sea of Stars will not fall. I hope, anyway, for this thing has lasted seven long years.

Long time it has been Dani, hopefully I'm still welcome here like some stray cat that always has a home - or at least Cinder has. Mun life, so twisty topsy turvy. Then again we all know that, anyway. I hope you have some place for accepting my possible return if not I understand and wish you well, this place does have a lot of good memories as does that blue rascal of yours, I wish you well.

Dude, you are *always* welcome here! I would never turn you from here unless you did something horrid (As in ticked RDI Admins off or some junk like that, you know?) and I know you never would!

Just be prepared for crazy twistedness, heh. Life has been crazy on my end too but we all know how that is.

Now get in here so I can properly glomp you!!

Slight hiatus again, but life happens. A note to let whoever reads that yes, Across the Sea of Stars is still active, and will remain so until either Red Dragon Inne shuts down completely, an Admin deems it time to come down, or until I can no longer write here.

And, for those that remember and/or are '90s kids.

Remembering Thuy Trang.

Right, so, I'm not sure if anyone even reads this little corner of Dragon's Mark/RDI, but.. Anyway. I'm still alive. This little corner is still alive. A round of...familial fire storms decided to kick me in the teeth, so I've been battling that and trying to keep my head from going down old, dark roads again.

Still here. Still alive.

There are always lurkers, always readers, even if we don't speak up. ;)

I was excited to see the last installment, "Spark". I'll try not to give too much away, but I was eager to see Renne on a journey to find the 'spark' that he has been in search for so long - a soul. I can't wait to see more of his journey, and his 'rebirth'. :)
