Author's Notes

Before beginning the Power Densetsu chapter of the Wadō Saga, I shall begin by stating that unlike other writings here, some of the characters and concepts in Power Densetsu do not belong to me.
The characters of "William", "Trini", "Kimberly", "Zack", "Jason", "Zordon", "Alpha Five", "Rita Repulsa", "Finster", "Squatt" and "Baboo" are direct from Haim Saban's Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. In turn, this is an American adaptation of Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, produced by Toei and Ban-Dai. The only things that belong to me are Renne himself, the plot of Power Densetsu and the antagonist, "Kriger av Solen".
All notices apply. Not making cash off of anything, obviously. Just writing for the fun of it.

There may be references to historical persons and/or events, in which case, those don't belong to me either.

Power no Densetsu

"A hero is not made instantly. A villain lies under perspectives few dare to look at. To be one of both walks a line fewer still are brave enough to ride upon."

?Fin-STER!? The voice was strident, screeching as if to outdo nails on a chalkboard. Rita Repulsa had suffered yet another defeat and, finding another headache coming on, she stormed into Finster?s lab. The grayish white creature that vaguely resembled a mutant dog responded in his usual tone. He always his any exasperation; it wasn?t his place to voice displeasure.
?Yes, my Queen??
?Incompetent boob! That monster failed ? again!?
Finster wasn?t surprised at this. He wasn?t however, unprepared either. In monitoring intergalactic goings-on, he had picked up a strange anomaly, something dormant, headed for the planet Earth. Calmly, like the scientist/tinkerer he was, Finster explained his discovery to his Empress?

He didn?t know how he ended up here. Wherever and whenever it was, he didn?t like it. It was cold and frankly, the place smelled worse than the backside of a Turatol during mating season. The screeching voice didn?t help either ? rather, he made faces at the voice. It had woken him from a stasis he?d put himself in to survive the cold of space. He didn?t like travelling that way, but it was far easier than traversing the Timeslip in any sense. Rita Repulsa loomed over the little creature, both trying to puzzle out what he was and how exactly, she could use him to her own ends.
?You belong to me now, whatever you are. And I will make you do as ? Yii! Goldar, get this thing off!?
Goldar scowled as best he could, cursing the fact that his facial muscles weren?t as mobile as he wished they were. The winged beast tramped across the floor and wrapped a powerful arm around the obnoxious little ankle-biter.

He got his own arm bitten for his troubles.

?Little brute.? Goldar muttered but maintained his hold on the creature as it began squirming in earnest. It was a chore to keep the writhing thing in his grip and becoming more of a chore as the minutes wore on. Goldar?s arms bore mounting scratches and bites from the furious creature. His red eyes glared down at the squirming thing and for a moment, he was almost fascinated by the rapid-fire flashes of colour dancing across his captive?s skin. As the colours grew more vibrant, he spoke up.

?My Queen??

?Put that thing on a leash. It?s getting pissed off. Go to Finster and make sure you haven?t caught rabies from that beast.?

Goldar nodded and did as he was told. The collar latched around the blue beast?s neck but as Rita Repulsa?s lieutenant turned to go, a sound filled the room. Sizzling. Hissing. As if something was burning or slowly melting away. Both Rita and Goldar stared open-mouthed as the irate creature?s skin gave off angry flashes; its body temperature clearly was growing hot enough to simply melt the band of steel. It hissed a warning at the two giants it smelled, trying to keep its distance from them. Its only reason to be wary before was the faintly Human scent of the Female ? now it had all the more reason to defend itself. So it displayed its warning flashes this once.
If the two strange life-forms came too close, it was clearly not above an attack.

The two beings trying to bring the creature under their power slowly advanced.

The anomaly backed up until it hit a wall. Its eerily transparent teeth shone savagely. Its ears slicked flat against its head and it sprang forward.

It took only a second for the sorceress to point her staff, aim it and send out an arc of scarlet energy at the advancing predator. She understood well that the tides had turned ? she and Goldar had turned into the prey and neither were too happy about it. Their only logical solution was, therefore, to contain their unexpected guest until they figured out what to do with it.

We Were Angels

"It is never too late or too early to discover something new."

The Command Centre had been quiet for a while ? a relief in some ways and an ominous portent in others. Alpha busied himself with keeping the consoles in working order. Zordon did whatever it was he did in that transwarp tube all day, aside from keeping a hawk's eye on the unsavouries of the universe. All in all, it was...boring. And quiet. And a little unnerving.

?Zordon??

?Yes, Alpha?? The sage's voice sounded as though it thundered forth even though he kept a softer-spoken way these days. It had been months since the last attack and he had to admit, the Rangers were missed.

?Do you think we will be attacked again? It's been several months already...?

?I am uncertain, Alpha. Rita and Zedd have shown no activity of late. I am considering disbanding the Rangers.?

Alpha asked no more questions that day. Within, the little droid darkly hoped that there would be an attack. An attack meant that the Rangers would still be needed. He counted the days as another week, then another month passed in complete and utter silence. As such, when the new energy spike came up on the monitors, it nearly went unnoticed. Zordon however, in his constant vigil, noted it and kept an eye.
It was time to call his team again.

The six Rangers' communicators went off almost simultaneously; each individual hurrying to a quiet spot. Jason and Tommy dashed into the guys' locker room. Zack met them not a moment later. Kimberly and Trini rushed to another side of the park. Billy was the first to teleport in, straight from his garage-turned-laboratory. When the six converged in the Command Centre, they didn't find alarms blasting or Alpha in a panic. They found the droid carefully handling what appeared to be a sphere made entirely of glass.

?Zordon, what's wrong?? Jason and Tommy spoke up almost in unison, asking the same question that was on everyone's mind. When their mentor didn't speak up immediately, Billy began to approach the transwarp tube.

?Zordon?? Billy's curiosity was already getting the better of him.

?Rangers. Allow me to speak candidly. Yes, I am monitoring the lunar palace but so far, only small energy spikes have come up. Until recently. I am...? He hesitated, unsure if he should go on. Certain lines, he was taught, were not to be crossed when in a mentor/protege relationship even if these Rangers had become as family. To his relief, Alpha waddled up to the team, showing off the strange sphere.

?This came to Earth last night. It seems like it can open, but I can't get it to unlock. Zordon asked me to wait for you. We don't know if it's a new trap from Rita.?

?I called you here in hopes that perhaps a human touch might assist in discerning the object. I...wished that all of you should be here in case something does go wrong.?

The six Rangers stared at the thing, first in consternation, then in curiosity. Almost as one, the other five turned to Billy as if the resident genius had the answer. Billy looked back at them, then took the sphere from Alpha's metallic hands. Immediately, there was a reaction.
The glass-like substance bloomed as if in a flower, opening as one such blossom. However, it was at such speeds one might compare it to a time-lapse camera display of such a natural occurrence. The object's petals displayed a puzzling mix of those between a rose and an Asian lotus. Colours danced and reflected wildly across the almost-glass and as the thing fully opened, what sounded like music emanated forth.

?What the...? Billy, drop it!? Jason and Tommy chorused in alarm as the others stood ready to morph on the spot.

?Rangers, do not act in haste. Listen.? Zordon cautioned, still ready at a moment's notice to get that thing out of the building if necessary but the sage knew too, that not all strange anomalies came directly from evil sources. Had he been one to assume such things, the Eltarian may well have had to eat his own words long ago ? after all, a being who appeared as a floating head within a glass tube was not something Humans saw every day.
To his relief, the object Billy held at arm's length now did not raise any alarms signaling curses, viruses or the like. It wasn't long before the Rangers, Alpha and Zordon himself fell silent to listen. With the music, words came forth in a crudely English fashion, spoken in the third person. The music sounded eerily haunting, otherworldly and all at once, reached a deep, visceral emotional level.

?Not know where is One. One...have confusion. One dislike screeching Female yet Screeching Female speak....truths. Truths One understand. Why Screeching Female dislike Humans? Destroy, Female's wish? Or to take Freedom? Not understand. Screeching Female speak of Betrayal....evil act One understand well. Humans betray One most. Did Humans betray Screeching Female? ...Lord Tzor-Da, One pray to Thee once more. What wisdom have thee? One seek wisdom. One seek, find place in Multiverse.?

The words faded away, replaced by brief mirage-like images produced from the sphere's shining central heart. Even while pondering the message, the Rangers could not help but snicker at the image of a strange blue creature biting Rita Repulsa on her left foot. No one was smiling as further images played on.

The staff came down again, thankfully without another magic-infested bolt. The blue creature scrambled away only to dart in and take another bite out of Rita's leg. It flinched, as if it wanted to clean out its mouth right then and there, but it could not afford such fancies right then. It dodged another staff-swing only to roll right into Finster. The dog-like scientist held a silver chain and spoke as if he had made an incredible scientific leap.

?My Queen! Please, try not to agitate our friend further. I have discovered how to restrain it. It seems the creature's biochemistry reacts strangely with silver. You see, I took a tiny sample of our friend's blood here and ran it through a series of tests ? ?

?Fin-STER, just restrain that beast before I blow it to oblivion!? Finster didn't protest or continue his dissertation. He knew better than that and bent down over his newest ?test subject?.

On the Surfaces of Water

"Good and evil. They are words, just words that when defined by act, become intrinsically what they mean."

Kimberly turned her face away in disgust. Trini frowned wide-eyed. Zack simply shook his head as Jason balled up both fists. Tommy and Billy had looks that echoed the rest of them. What they had seen was more brutal than they were used to and yet they were still aware that all this could be found untrue. Billy handed the sphere back to Alpha; the object folding closed upon contact with the droid's cold, metallic hands. Over their heads, Zordon looked on. Disturbed as the ancient wizard was, he couldn't have helped a brief snicker.
The others, not used to the sound of Zordon laughing, turned to face him.

?What's so funny, Zordon? Shouldn't we get that....er...animal?....away from the Lunar Palace?? Jason wondered. He never liked the idea of walking into a trap but his responsibility to the world at large kicked in.

?Forgive me, Rangers. It is not every day one witnesses Rita Repulsa getting bitten by another life-form.?

His straight-faced reply coupled with the memory of seeing just what the Eltarian described clicked in the group's collective mind almost at once. Moments later, the Command Centre residents shared a good, hard laugh. When the laughter settled down, a new flurry of questions came at Zordon from what seemed like all six angles. Should they rescue the thing? Did it need or want rescuing? Where was it now? And just what was it to begin with?
Unfortunately, like a clockwork of its own, the alarms sounded. The Rangers were suddenly all business.

?Ay-yi-yi! Another monster attack!? Alpha wasn't surprised by the monster attack itself but he knew by now the kind of damage monsters could do to the city. This one looked incredibly....stupid. Granted, every monster the Rangers faced had a degree of comic irony about them; it was still unwise to underestimate even the most apparently pathetic ones. This particularly stupid-looking monster looked like a badly-glued conglomerate of several past monsters molded into a human-like shape. Its legs bore the stripes of Grumble-Bee, its head and upper torso reminded the Rangers of a Frankenstein-ed human and its tail had the sting of a scorpion.

?Rangers. You must exercise caution here. The Mockery has the ability to imitate the attacks of both human and animal. Go swiftly, and may the Power protect you.? When the team morphed and teleported out, Alpha didn't fail to notice the frown on Zordon's face.
