Secret

Somewhere secret, there was a secret.

It lay wrapped up in brown paper and string awaiting a moment that may now never come. It was a secret kept in the corner of a room in a building.
It held a thin layer of dust as it sat undisturbed for almost an entire year but it was otherwise unaffected. It was a secret held behind secret walls in a secret place.

Almost a full year ago, the secret had been created. It was carved by inexperienced hands, patient hands. It was worked on in the quiet hours of night when no one else but those hands was up and awake. The hands were small and sometimes trembled in nervous glee. Sometimes the hands were calm, cool and steady.
The fingers glided across the surface and brushed away rough impurities. They inspected each groove and dip.
The secret was emerging from a prize.

Now the secret lay completed.

It had been many months since the secret was completed, wrapped and hidden in a moment of joyous anticipation. It was wrapped in the light of not being a secret forever.
It was destined to become a source of pride, joy and solidarity.

The destiny was no longer true.

The secret lay still wrapped and still hidden in a room, in a building waiting to be unwrapped, waiting to be revealed so it could no longer be a secret.

Wrapped in plain paper and twine, the secret waited for the hands of its creator.

Somewhere secret, a secret waited interminably.
