Far-Travelling Words
After he'd tried and failed to find Renne, searching for the imp by night in Rhy'Din, Vicfryn had little choice but to conclude that Renne had gone to sea as he had planned to do. In as such, the drow had returned back up north, where his only point of contact with humanity was the town of Copper Forge.
Strangely, one of the guards at the Port South Holding House had family up there and was visiting the town when Vic passed through on his route. And it was there in the single tavern that he overheard the guard talking about a little blue imp who had turned himself in -- the guard was sympathetic, speaking of the sorrow that the poor "critter" seemed to have, and willingly answered Vic's questions when asked. And willingly listened, though reserved his judgment, when Vic firmly refuted the possibility of Renne doing those deeds.
It didn't take long for the story to come out, though Vicfryn couldn't believe the allegations of murder. Still, he couldn't go to the city right now -- he had three drow to lead to safety, and many miles to go to get to them, then to take them back. It was a dangerous road, but he loved to save those who had made it to the surface, as his friends had once saved him.
But he could write a letter, and send some gifts from Copper Forge.
The first gift was two bottles of the not-fyrewyne; he remembered Renne liking that during their brief meeting in Copper Forge before Harold...
Before Harold was gone.
The second gift was two bundles of yeti-fur, large enough for the Renne to use as bedding or a cloak. It wasn't fall yet, but it would be soon, and the high-quality furs would help keep Renne warm, hopefully out in the world again by then, since he could not have done the acts that were attributed to him.
The last thing was a simple letter: Vic really didn't have much time left before he had to leave, or he'd be putting himself and those other drow in danger.
So he sent all of it with the guard Mathias, who agreed readily to bring the care package back to Renne in five or six days. Then, with a prayer to his goddess, he set out again, even though his thoughts travelled back to the city and the friend that was there.
--
Renne:
I have heard where you are. I do not believe you have done what was said. I would come, but my duties are many now and I cannot find a replacement to take the responsibility. I have sent some things for you, though, to help you until you are free again.
Please be safe, my friend, until we can meet again. I will write to you when I come through next, though it may be a long time as it is a very long road.
Stay strong.
Your friend,
Vicfryn
