The Face of a Watch in a Blur

November 20th, 2007

One of the few evenings that Johnathan was allowed to see Renne while in the holding cell. It was rare for Johnathan to ever sleep--Sea-Elvens were physically and mentally trained to never need sleep.

It was a cool November night by the docks where the holding cells resided; Renne was wrapped in the fur thing and Johnathan cradling him like a child as he relaxed in her arms. Johnathan was propped up against the wall on the small cot the cell had in. He was in her arms, which is all that ever mattered to her. She was his and she hoped that he was hers.

The night wore on. Johnathan gently caressed Renne's golden hair as her eyes slowly closed. She did not understand it, but he was the only thing--aside from the Waters themselves--that made her feel completely relaxed and at ease. And without a thought, her mind drifted off somewhere; to a place where she had not truly seen before and yet knew it better than her own Harbours.

A house.

It was not a big one, or even anything elaborate. Just a simple house close to the Harbours. Inside, it smelled constantly of cinnamon and vanilla; as if someone was always baking. The main room was nothing more than a couch and a few chairs along with a fireplace and a small bird-bath-like statue-bowl that indeed had water in it.

On the couch, though, was Johnathan. Sitting sideways with paperwork scattered on her lap. This paperwork, though, was not for the Harbours. What it was specifically, though, was a bit of a blur. Johnathan herself was different. Dressed in simple dark-red and brown coloured dress that went down to her bare feet, she read the papers casually.

Renne was in the kitchen, cooking up something. Enough for two; but he knew better than anyone that Johnathan never eats; but only drinks water. Renne meant well all in all and he knew that the smell of the food pleased his Johnathan so much. Renne knew the house so well that he crawled with ease and pride from the kitchen to the main area. Lifting himself on the couch, he claw-like paw was gently placed on some of the papers on her lap before he tilted his head a bit.

"Book?"

Johnathan watched him, but could not help but smile brightly.

"Yes, Lo'e. The story of me ad'entures."

"Nayt need rest for dae. Too much writ-ing."

Quickly bundling the papers together to place them on the floor beside the couch, Johnathan reached over to grab ahold of Renne in her arms to kiss him on top of his head. She heard the chirps of excitement and surprise from him, but she paid no attention to it.

"How 'bout this. If ye stay here with I fer a full twenty-four hours on this couch; then I will not write fer a full twenty-four hours. Deal?"

Renne gave a small chirp before giving a small peck on her nose.

Johnathan knew that she would be technically not writing for the rest of today, which it seemed like the day was half-gone and nearly all of the next day, but Renne would be right beside her.

1:30PM to 2:25PM

Johnathan and Renne played Tickle Monster and Battle of the Finger Swords. They each won once from them. They were planning to duel another time.

2:25PM to 4:30PM

Johnathan started to teach Renne how to say words in Elven. It was difficult, though, due to both of their speech impediments; but at the very least Renne knew how to ask where the kitchen is in Elven.

4:30PM to 5:30PM

Renne was telling his tale of the high seas and how he wants to be the best galley cook in all of RhyDin.

5:30PM to 6:30PM

Although, Renne was not on the couch during most of the hour, he was in the kitchen; cooking bread pudding that he knew Johnathan loved to smell. And that was during the time where Johnathan at least reorganised the paper that was on the floor.

6:30PM to 7:05PM

Renne was back on the couch, munching on the bread pudding but made sure that Johnathan could savor the smell.

7:05PM to 7:10PM

Johnathan could not stop laughing at the sound of Renne's hiccups.

7:10PM to 7:30PM

The Tickle Monster came back with a vengeance, which made Renne the champion.

7:30PM to 8:15PM

Johnathan started to sing softly in Fae. Something Renne enjoyed thoroughly. Sitting in her lap like a child, Johnathan even brushed out his dirt-golden hair.

8:15PM to 5:45AM

Renne fell asleep in Johnathan's lap and she was not far behind him. It was the faint rush of the morning tides that started to wake them right before dawn.

5:45AM to 7:00AM

Similar to just lying in bed doing nothing, Johnathan and Renne sat on the couch together and did nothing but simply enjoyed the company of each other even in silence.

7:00AM to 8:05AM

Renne decided to make eggy-bread...but that kind of failed, so made French Toast instead. During that time, Johnathan wrote out a couple of paragraphs to the paperwork.

8:05AM to 8:45AM

Renne ate the French Toast while he was trying to talk about how bread does not have holes big enough to cook the egg into.

8:45AM to 9:00AM

Renne decided to do some quick washings of the dishes he used to cook and eat off of. Johnathan, however, decided to sing about how the letter "C" in Common means cooking and that it's good enough for her.

9:00AM to 12:00PM

For some odd reason, these three hours were kind of blended in together where Johnathan did not get a clear idea of what occurred; but she remembered being there on the couch with Renne. Something about the legend and not so much legends of septopi.

12:00PM to 1:30PM

The learning of this time Fae was used. Not many outside the Fae and Elven heritage could master it within a lifetime; but at least a word pronounced correctly is better than not knowing any at all.

Once 1:30 rolled around, Renne chirped with glee and nuzzled under Johnathan's chin.

"Stay un-till fall a-sleep?"

"I will allways stay with ye, Angel-Heart."

"Not here. Place not re-all."

Feeling Renne stir, Johnathan's eyes quickly opened and blinked a few times before looking out to the small bit of the skies through the bars that it was just past dawn. Looking around, still seeing just the holding cell, she blinked once again before looking back down to Renne as she caressed his hair once again.

It was the first time in so long that she had a lovely dream.
