Aja set out at first light, heading for the last spot marked. Gem?s additions to the map keeping a record of where the Jaffa had been. To some it may seem like a waste of time, tracking a troop?s past movements. To Aja, it had the possibility of revealing a pattern. The more information that was gathered, the clearer that pattern could be seen.
She?d seen troops backtrack on their routes before, if this one did anything like that, it might be helpful to note it, helpful in deciphering their thinking. Perhaps their final destination if they had one.
Besides, tracking gave her something physical to do, something to keep her mind busy. There had been too much to think about lately, and being away from people was the best thing for her at the moment. Focusing on the landscape, looking for disturbed trees, brush and dirt that would indicate a troop moving through. No matter how good a troop was, nothing in the world could exist without leaving a trace behind. It was only a matter of finding it.
She hadn?t really thought much beyond tracking their movements. She had a tracer with her, in case she did run across them. Some small device that would send a signal back indicating where it was, but she honestly didn?t think she would find them.
Gem had found them and had gotten away when they spotted her, which was lucky. Sadly, she hadn?t been able to find ?Mery or Renne.
Aja didn?t want to say anything around Petyr, but the longer they were gone, the more she feared the worst had happened to them. They didn?t know who these Jaffa people were, or even what they wanted.
Shaking the thought from her head, she got to work. Now wasn?t the time to think about the worst case scenario. Just find out everything she could and get it back to the rest of the group. That was the plan. So that was what she would do.
