Braving the Fever and Riots
(This following was adapted from live play)
Around the corner of a market street Corea ran. She had a dark blue motor jacket on and blue jeans down to her colorful sneakers. some of her looked cute, some of her looked mysterious. Wholly, she looked not to be messed with. Her green eyes looked around the various stores and shoppes, many closed, some beginning to open. She stayed along the brick and pocketed her hands into those unusually located front pockets of her jacket and struck a lean on the bricks while she waited, but it was a lean with the best vantage point.
Dyarhk was not far behind her. He looked like he were about to jump off a cliff, or at least that was what one of his neighbor's had said in Adenna before he headed out this morning. His shirt needed ironing, and the collar was all roughed up and thus dubbing the look: rough. His short head of black hair was no better. Tossed and spiked randomly like he just walked away from a hurricane. But it aided to a cool air of relaxation he seemed to walk with as he came up to the woman with his pocketed hands up under the shirt tails of his shirt. His shoes were much more fine than hers. The evidence was in the sound every step made. She only had him beat if they were going to a 5k right now, but that wasn't the case. It was breakfast.
He stopped. "Is the coast clear? Is it okay to come out?" He kidded, joining her in looking around. His eyes were much slower, but he paid attention to detail and the subtleties. Calm eyes also had their advantages.
"The workday is just starting for many of these people. There's no traffic out. No threats." She answered honestly to the man, though she knew he had been joking. She had been around him long enough to learn a few things about him. She shoved off the brick wall and assumed walking beside the man. She was playing protector, but she didn't know where he was heading. "Where did you say we were going?"
"......... Ahhhuu ? ? A thinning of those lips as the young one tried her best to stifle a yawn. It wasn't early for Nayun ? she usually awoke three hours before; but the lack of action came that sudden feeling of sleepiness. It was bad for a warrior and Nayun understood this well, she should keep focused and ready for anything. Squatting, cloak covered form kept itself at her own vantage point. This being up on a roof of one of those local eateries. Eyes kept themselves pinned on the two she had been tasked to watch over; Corea & Dyarhk. The young one couldn't help but wonder though; why? Corea was one of the best sharpshooters Nayun had ever had the chance to see.. but, she couldn't deny the Siovanui of Adenna. If she asked her to jump, Nayun would have to reply with ?How high??
Dyarhk rose a finger to her. "I didn't say. If I had, you would have remembered. You pay attention like that..." He let that mull over while they passed a few carts and cart-made aisles before he spoke back up. "That Rhydin illness is still going around, so I know you're looking out for carriers. The last thing we need is to come down with something. And you might say it's foolish to come out here ? but I'm being careful, too. We're not going to a place like Olivier's." He looked around to the faded sky that was not yet filled with the vibrancy of the sun. "It's too public. It's one thing to walk past people, but it's very much another thing to eat with them. Not to discriminate or anything!" he held his hands out to Corea to make that point clear, "I love people. But we can't exactly afford to get sick, if this thing is as bad as the prints read. Not just for us, but we have little ones to look after. None to mention a whole country I might get on its bad side if I hauled a new plague into their walls." He cackled maniacally at the idea as though he had some confidence and response to such an event unfolding. He certainly wasn't afraid of it. Could he have possibly thought his status and service provided for Adenna during the Chains incident had him in untouchable standing?
Corea walked all along with him listening just as open-minded as she had always been. Being open-minded had done very little harm to her. All she had ever known was Wong's way of life and Dyarhk's. With the former, she had been introduced to very little outside her way of life, and with the latter Dyarhk had exposed only safe things to her and friends that have not tried to take advantage of her ignorance in so many new things. Only the wine, so far, had come back to bite her in the rear. She let out a soft sigh and returned to looking around, making up for the lost time she should have been using when she had been staring at Dyarhk. "So where are we going? Is it breakfast?"
"Mmm... you must have overheard my conversation with Kara... A place to stay, and food to provide. These are the most important things, I told him. Two things I'm always conscious of whenever I am out with someone. You're that person this morning, Corea. So yes, I thought I'd take you out to get something to eat. Is that such a bad thing?" he placed an arm around her and applied a great deal of energy into jerking her toward him. Depth of joking.
Sharp green eyes turned into wide and surprised ones. A great deal of this man could be predicted, and at the same time, a great deal could "not." Pulled into his right breast she pushed to gain enough distance from him to look up at him and regain some form of her own stance. "Actually... the list of affected by this illness is surprisingly short despite the attention it is getting. Regardless, you could be that next victim. So it is not necessarily wise coming out here..."
"Hmm..." Again. He looked at her as he released her as much was necessary for her to take the remainder of the initiative and break their walking embrace. He looked a bit surprised to hear her say that, but still wore that face of confidence that the worst case scenario wasn't anything bad at all. "I wouldn't worry about it. It is like Seiri said, I think. People have conquered much more terrifying illnesses. I do not think Rhydin's fever would be enough even to keep me out of work." He laughed.
Nayun's body rose out of its squatting position. The two were now on the move; which meant she needed to do the same. Nayun moved carefully, as to not cause any sort of commotion as she made her way across rooftops. Easy enough.. but the smells in the air had been distracting. Food, making her stomach grumble by just the scent of it. The blame could be put right on her.. since all she had for breakfast was a piece of toast. The aroma causing her attention to shift from the two. Sniff, sniff.
"...I'm hungry.." Mumbling to herself. That lapse of judgement did cause a problem though. Feet slid just a bit. A few loose roof shingles being the culprit. Losing balance, Nayun was forced to take a step back, but in doing so this allowed the singles to fall and hit the ground below.
Corea sighed, wishing he had a bit more fear for the unknown. "I wish you would treat this a little more seriously..."
"I am. I am. Like I said, we're not going to Olivier's for breakfast, and only a fool would say that in confidence if he knew how elaborate their smorgasbord was..." he looked over to the woman and pocketed that hand back at last. "We're nearly where we're going, anyway... Then we can be right on our way back and not risking anything. But that is something we need to talk about. Sometimes.. living's all about the risk. It is better to risk it all if the choice is between staying safe and doing nothing... You can't be afraid of living."
He came up to the stone bridge that went over one of the canals and his smile put on that he knew they were close. Beside Yatsuba's cake shoppe, four stores down, in-fact, had been their destination. "Ahh.. these bodies of water are always pleasant to eat beside. I've always been a fan of the water... but you know this." He beamed as he went past the front door altogether and began shopping for a cute table with a nice view.
"Alright. We will eat and then return home. I think that this is fair since it is not advisable to be out at all." Following him and seeing him pick a table, she took hold of the back of her chair and thought briefly before looking over her shoulder. Such attentive, beautiful eyes. They looked back. "You are welcome to come join us, Nayun. That way we can head back to Adenna together."
Dyarhk wide-eyed and jaw-dropped gasped. "Huh?!? Nayun?? Where???"
".........." She had been made. Terrible, terrible. Cursing herself under her breath; it looked like her stealth skills needed some work. What to do ? what to do. She was told to keep her distance and make sure ?not to bother? the two of them. The Siovanui's orders. Nayun couldn't act like the woman didn't see her though.. So, with a soft sigh, she took a step off that roof and free fell to the ground below. Knees bending on contact, and hands reaching low to help ease the stress on her body as she made her landing ? looking almost cat like in doing so. As did her next set of actions. She took one step closer, but stopped before leaning much into the step; but with a brief pause, she'd finally make up her mind and move to meet with them. ".. Apologies. With word of the outbreak and riots.. Seirichi thought it best to keep an extra set of eyes on you.."
"Oooooh!" Dyarhk continued the front of wow and amazement. He'd seen Nayun meld in and out of stealth before. But he loved for a person's confidence and pride in their abilities to show and come up regularly. It helped, also, that it was not so hard for him to forcefully push this looking impressed ? not because it was easy or anything ? but because it was just that easy to be impressed by Nayun. "How long were you following us?! You must have been a perfect shadow."
Corea also chose the path of the friendlier, more welcome response to Nayun. She closed her eyes politely, dipped her chin, and smiled. "You are more than welcome to join us for a quick breakfast, Nayun. I understand we'll be going back home afterward, so I apologize for calling you down, but thought we could all make the journey back together."
"Ahh, Faris my good man. How are things in the kitchen this morning?" Dyarhk's muscular arm was taken into a firm handshake with the chef coming out to greet his only three customers. "Slow, slow Dyarhk. It is good to see you. Who are you friends??" It was no surprise an acquaintance of Dyarhk's being friendly. The Palliator happily introduced the two.
"Faris, this is my slew of bodyguards today," he snickered for a moment, "Corea, my wife. And Nayun, our babysitter." His beautiful dark-colored hand introduced them both. "And girls, this is Faris. He doesn't entertain large dinner parties here, but that's the whole intention of this place. It's a private eatery." he winked to them. "Now, Faris. We'll not have anything heavy. One of your appetizers should be fine. Those are filling enough as it is."
"Nice to meet you, Ladies. Alright, Dyarhk. I can do that! It'll just be a moment." He waved, and headed back inside of his shoppe where even fewer tables and chairs were laid out.
Dyarhk stretched in the meantime and smiled out romantically to the look of the water in the canals where the sun was just beginning to penetrate upon.
".. I took a portal into Rhy'Din a few minutes before you did." Nayon revealed. After all, she needed time to scope the area and take her roof top position. The cloak she wore seemed a bit out of place, so she did remove it with a shrug of her shoulders, followed by a disrobing pull. "I appreciate the offer." Nod of a bow given to Corea in thanks. Hand reached for her belt. Fingers curling about the saya of her blade, and with a tug she'd begin to remove it. Holding the sheathed weapon within her hand, the young woman moved to sit herself. Only after did she allow that blade to lean against a leg of the table.
"It is nice to meet you." Corea was becoming more adjusted to meeting new people. It certainly helped that all of these people tended to be friendly and agreeable and not complicated. Corea wasn't sure how to respond to a civil dispute. Problems and complications were much easier for her to respond to with a bone break, a silencing cut, or a man-stopping bullet. That chair she had her hand on was finally sat upon and she looked over, keeping her eyes on Nayun thoughtfully. "We appreciate your looking after us, Nayun. I know there are new things you would like to be doing and trying now that much of your schedule has freed."
"Perhaps she should find a young man to take to the movies like a girl her age should!" Dyarhk said full of meaning. But deep, deep past it, he had been antagonizing something.
"........" A curious glance did come. Eyes shifting about the restaurant. People, to people.. noting exits and other points of strategic importance. Glance turned itself back to those at the table, one in particular; Corea. "My schedule is usually free during the morning. There's no.. need...." Now looking to Dyarhk. ".........." Well. It looked like he knew exactly how to embarrass her. Eyes slowly shifted to take in the view of the table top. "... I'm not interested in boys.. My training is more important." She muttered out.
Corea's lips closed together and assumed a simple smile hearing Nayun's convictions. She understood them well, and they were not far from her own only so many years back. "That is good. Nayun. There is no need to go looking for something when it is of such an importance as a partner. Such a thing will come to you... when you are ready. As it did for me." She turned to Dyarhk even though she had closed her eyes and her smile grew.
"Hohh?" Now he was the one embarrassed. He didn't like this position! So he weaseled out of it, or at least, he tried to. Perhaps his full strength was not utilized because, well, it wasn't that bad of a spot to get caught in. "Hey! That's not exactly... well... wait a second. Maybe that is how it happened. Yes. I suppose it was.... fate..." He said romantically, also closing his eyes. The water backdropping him was also added affect.
His eyes opened and he looked to Nayun now. "You have a good head on your shoulders, Nayun. You know what's important. And it takes most people into their thirties before they realize what that is. You're definitely ahead of the game. So call breakfast this morning a reward for being such a bright young woman. Your name is going to be one Adenna remembers for a very long time." He thumbs-upped her.
