Faye left her in the market. She was old enough now, so it wasn't cruel. She had money, clothes, a good head on her shoulders....

She was on a mission.

Audrey found the antique shop easy enough. She even figured out what door was the one to her mother's apartment. A little jimmying of the lock and she was in. Her giant green sack(similar to the one Raye used to tote around) was flopped on the bed of the studio apartment.

It was her mother's alright. Nothing in it save a desk, a cot-like bed and a dresser. The kitchen looked like it hadn't been used in a long time and it made Audrey sigh. She opened the ice box, looked in the cabinets, and when she was done, Audrey pulled a notebook from her pocket and started a shopping list.

When her mother got home, there would be food in the icebox, in the cabinets and a potted plant on the windowsill.

The small redhead? Sitting on the bed, legs crossed reading some book she happened to pick up between where-ever she had been hiding and here. Mom would come home eventually.

Raye unlocked her door and pushed into her room, dropping the bag of groceries by the door. With a yawn she set about going through her mail. She turned to go get something from the bedside table when she saw the sleeping form of her daughter.

Eyes widened and hands went cold. Was Faye allright? Did something happen?

"Audrey?" Raye reached out shakey hands to awken her daughter. "Audrey, get up... is everything okay?"

The melting frozen food was forgotten-- ice cream and ice for the ice box. Not a single gas lamp was lit yet. She was frantic, this Raye. Not the calm collected killer of a woman. "Come on, doll."

"Hmmm..." Audrey slowly, slowly came back to reality. The pillow was soft, the blanket was nice... where was she? Her eyes opened and she turned in the bed to see a very panicked mother.

"Mom...?" And then, that fog started to clear. "Mom!" The slow rise turned into a fast sit up, her arms open for her mother who leaned into them to give her a bear hug.

"We're all okay. It's just... Auntie Faye said I'm twenty and you can deal with me now." Audrey gave her mother a lopsided grin, her head tilted to look up at her, they still had their upper arms locked. "So, surprise?"
