Potions:
All alchemy and potions courses at the Arcanum are taught by the schools? headmaster himself. Through the tiered structure of his courses students learn creation of basic ointments to creation of healing tablets and reverse engineering the potions of others to find their composition. The required first year course generally focuses on potion application and use while explaining the versatility of potions and salves in place of lesser spells.

Students who go on to take Intermediate Potions are taught the use of reagents in terms of making expired potions usable once more along with more creative mixtures such as gaseous form, water-breathing, and Infra-Red. Advanced Potions is where the three courses finally come together. Students spend much of the year making their own potions as well as figuring out what each other? mixtures are made of. On top of this, they learn the process of bottling their own spells into moderate level potions.

Magic Theory:
Unlike most courses at the Academy, Magic Theory does not come with a requirement of wand or spell components. Students only need bring their assigned reading, and a parchment or paper to write upon. The course focuses on discussion of Magic as both a tool to be utilized as well as a self-renewing resource within the varied worlds. Topics covered alter from terminology used to label magic practitioners along with all varied applications that magic is put to in the world along with comparisons to nature in that magic can be subverted, even twisted, but never completely controlled by one person or being. Final exams are often essays. Topics of the previous years have been Why Does Magic Exist?, Is Magic a Viable Military Deterrent?, and Can Science and Magic Learn from Each Other?

Ethics of Magic:
Initially taught by Stephen Barabrossa, a renowned duelist upon the Twilight Isle, Ethics of Magic is every bit what the course is named for. It is a year spent questioning why magic possibly exists and what motivates the different facets of its use by so many. Along with these thoughts the course progresses through caster motivation and rationale. Ethics of Magic is often taken in conjunction with Psychology of Magic.

Introduction to Casting:
Taking over for Headmaster Kurgen, this introductory course to the art of magic conjuring is being taught by Dr. Chryrie Nightstar. The main objective of the class is to teach rudimentary to mid-level somatic and verbal aspects of magical studies. Finger placement and exact enunciation often make or break casters at the most crucial times.

Magical Defense:
Arcanum librarian, Thalisa Ghale, steps of her collections to take over as Magical Defense instructor. This base level course is designed to show the students not how to withstand magical attacks, but how to deflect direct assault into glancing blasts where possible along with charms against basic coercion spells designed to manipulate the mind or emotions.

Understanding Elements :
The enigmatic figure known to several as Druid has given lectures in the past about elemental thresholds and the illusion of immunity. With the Academy coming back to full standing, he has agreed to step from the lecture hall into the class room to show students exactly what he means. Elemental immunity is but a falsehood, it is just a matter of tolerance level.

Agronomy and Spell Components:
Often taught in spring, an Agronomy and Spell component is overseen by the Arcanum? grounds keeper Ganon Shale. His lumbering form often startles students at first, then he shows them not only how to grow their own spell materials, but the best ways to find them within the wild.

Science of Magic:
Through the use of mathematical formulae and fundamental rules that are used as foundations in physics, theoretician Dross Escarion takes much of the mysticism out of magic through empirical evidence and comparative discussion. Ultimately treating science as a area of magic in its own niche much like alchemy gave birth to modern medicine.

Introduction to Runes, Gates and Portals, Leylines and Mana Pools :
This trio of associated courses is designed to take students from the basic understanding of runic lore to its use in marking and stabilizing trans-dimensional portals, permanent gateways, as well as identifying and utilizing leylines and pools of raw magical energy.

Magical Construction of Temporary Objects, Permanent Objects, and Monoliths and Pyramids:
Another of Arcanum Academy?s series courses, Magical Construction of Objects is taught by Grimhold, a sentient Sonic Golem. The living construct instructs students in material choice and how matter works in conjunction with the effect in mind for the creation of living objects, automatons, Tower Guardians, temporary magical constructs such as Tensors Floating Disk, Earthen Grasp, and what makes Monoliths and Pyramids ideal for conducting magical energy.
