( some back posting for this )

All the students and parents had gathered into the dining hall to listen to the orientation speeches and faculty introductions. Pacing back and forth behind the curtained podium, Artemus was sweating buckets he was so nervous.

"Damn that's a lot of faces to have staring at you."

A hesitant glance towards the clock gave him three minutes before it was time to get things underway. His eyes then moved to the staff that had gathered in chairs that stood behind the podium, many were talking amongst themselves, though one or two remained silent and focused on nothing at all feigning boredom, though he sensed the eagerness in them that he himself could barely contain despire the level of nervous energy coursing through his system. Then the clock chimed 10am.

"Show time, boys and girls. Hope you have your tickets handy, because we're getting underway."

With a broad smile he looked at Vincent, Kyndra, Pslyder, Rena, Topaz, Brigath, Random, Charlotte, Kalinda, and Vasvrae one after the other, eyes bouncing back and forth from their faces. Then true to form Brigath and Vinny held up actual tickets, that brought a laugh from most of them.

"Cute, guys." Still shaking his head, the curtains parted with a clap of his hands and it was too the podium he walked. Standing there he gave the crowd a moment to quiet themselves down

Silva sat quietly in her seat, observing with detached curiosity the other students as they chatted amongst themselves. The noise was overwhelming, and she played at focusing first on one conversation, then another, then another. Topics ranged from introductions to mundane smalltalk about the weather and how big and diverse RhyDin was. ::Big,:: she thought to herself? ::Poor berk. They ain't seen nothing!:: She allowed herself to drift off for a bit, remembering with a faint shudder the time she'd visited that planet-city, Corus?ant was it, with her rrakkma, her Illithid-hunting group. They'd chased the trail of the disgusting Mind Flayer Krakh for what felt like an entire continent, never once seeing any rural area larger than a small park. That was a big city.

She closed her eyes. The battle with Krakh had scarred her; not physically, thank Zerth, but mentally: for several months she had been unable to concentrate, unable to cast a single spell or to feel the Tellurian. In a sense, though, it had had its upside, for she had been forced instead to develop her psionic ability and was now a relatively good manifester. In fact, it was during a session of meditation and auto-hypnosis that she was able to overcome whatever mental block the Illithid placed on her and finally cast her first spell in months.

Silva allowed herself to grow from the experience rather than be stunted by it, to the point where she is now fascinated with the interplay between magic and psionics. Therefore, after a great deal of research into the subject, she applied to the Arcanum Academy to study this interplay at a more theoretical level. She doesn't even have an advisor yet, but, well, when you're a master of Entropy, things have a way of working out.
