Arlena the secretary heard the knock at the door. Who would be knocking at the door of an office? Normal people just walked in.
She saw the face peek in the window and shook her head. Strange folks always seemed to be coming around. She sighed and got up from her desk and went to open the door just as the man was knocking a second time.
"Wha' ya be knockin' fer? C'mon in. Ya be lookin' fer the doc? She's seein' a patient. I be thinkin' yer a new one. C'mon and fill out th' paperwork."
She thunked a clipboard with papers for him to fill out into his hands. It was the usual. Name, age, ways to contact the patient, questions on allergies and medical history checklists. The final page was mostly blank and only contained the question of what they were there for that day.
"Jus' be sittin on down and fill that thar stuff out and I'll put ya up next ta see 'er."
She went back behind the desk and resumed her filing and typing as if nothing had changed.
