"Nhhh.." She twisted and felt something warm surrounding her. Something..wet. An eye crept open slowly and the first thing she saw was red. A ocean of it. Sitting up quickly she blinked. She was in her loft, in the makeshift bed, and she was bathed in...blood? Shaken at the sight she raised her hands to stare at her gloved palms. It wasn't terribly fresh. Hours maybe. So some was dried and some was still ...liquid.

Throwing the blanket from herself she scrambled from the blood stained sheets, bloody steps spotted, her footsteps, from the door to the bed. She had been walking. Fear causing her stomach to turn like mad. She must of blacked out after leaving the church because she remembered...nothing..

How long had it been since she had last blacked out? She couldn't remember. She did know one thing for sure...

She had hurt someone...

Or something...

Thankfully it didn't smell like Mayu's or Toby's...

Her face paled and she scrambled from her spot to rush for the kitchen area, attempting to grab as many rags and cleaning materials as she could. Yanking the blankets she began to roll them up, bundling them. She needed to get rid of them. Shaken hands stopped and she stared at the stained leather again. Tugging the gloves off she stared at the ink black covered most of her left hand and part of her right. Swirls of darkness disappeared under her sleeves. It was getting worse.

The fear grew in volume.

She was unable to control it like before. When under the pact she could control it..Build armor and weapons..wield the darkness like it was a powerful weapon. But now...It was like with Max and Eliam. She had no control..no memory. What had set it off though? She tried to pick out things after she had left Toby researching at the church. Nothing came to mind.

Grabbing a towel she hurried out of the door to wipe as much blood from the floors of the Zen as she could, getting rid of as much evidence as possible. She continued out of the Zen once she was sure that it couldn't be traced back to her room. She followed the bloody path..tracking her path from the earlier morn.

An alley...

She stopped at the mouth and squinted inside. She didn't see anything but still..Still..she wasn't going in and who knows what was down there. Evidence of what she didn't remember. Evidence of someone..or something..

"(vsw) Mrmm.." Shuddering she stepped back and turned, high tailing it from the scene.

.: May 15th - Early Morning :.

A look over shoulder and a sad look crept to her face as she examined the drink shop from her place. Looking away she sighed to herself. It shouldn't of hurt that much...it shouldn't of bothered her. Rubbing the back of her neck she turned and started to walk, making the way for the riverside. Rubbing her hands down her sides to seek out the pockets she felt her fingertips brush against the lip.

"It is a curious thing to see you moping, Dark One."

The voice made her twitch some but she kept on walking, finally finding the waterside that she started to follow. "I'm not moping, Duffau. What are you doing away from the meeting site?"

"I got bored and started to explore the city some. Surprise surprise I stumbled upon you and ...where those your friends?"

Her hands shoved firmly into the pockets, pushing the fabric at her shoulders taunt. "Where is Xavier?"

"Where do you think? He is patiently awaiting you to return."

Her head swayed to look to the tall figure that slipped up to her side, his hands mimicking hers by sliding into the pockets of his long coat. As many times as she had seen him she couldn't remember, once, ever seeing his face. His face was always hidden under the porclein mask with slanted eyeslits that was now being worn. The uneven cut mop of dark hair framed the mask swayed faintly with each step he took, matching easily with her pace.

She always wondered..what he looked like.

"I needed to make sure those I care for know that I will be unreachable for the day." She could feel the heavy stare of the man on her but easily turned her attention forward.

She didn't want things to happen again. She wanted to keep Mayu informed as much as possible. At the same time she almost wished she hadn't. Not because she was worried something might happen to her but because she knew it wouldn't. She felt all she did was leave them worrying.

"You are such a softy." He chuckled at her and stretched out a long arm to cradle over her shoulders.

She didn't try to veer from the touch nor did she lean into it. Just kept walking with the newly added weight. "I can still kick your tail without breaking a sweat."

The challenge caused a laugh to echo behind the mask. "We will have to have a friendly bout one day and see!"

"Get off of her."

The rumbling roll of the deep voice filled her ears and made her lips twitch into a tiny smile. Now that was a face she sort of missed. Xavier was a tall being, rivaling the height of Oda. Bronzed skin was offset by the long mane of white hair. It made her miss her hair being long. His lean body was hidden away by gleaming armor of black that looked just as deadly as the grin he wore.

"Yes because we both know that Xavier really wants to have bouts with me first. He's been trying for ages." she sighed and swatted Duffau's arm off of her. "Xavier is the gateway ready?"

She watched as the long figure of Xavier dipped into a graceful bow, the flowing cloak following his motions. "Of course my lady!" Rising up he curled his arm to offer his elbow to her. "Shall we?"

"Stop that.." She sighed and stepped forward to nudge the elbow. The decline made Duffau laugh. "Open the gateway. I want to be done with this as quickly as possible so I can return."

"It seems not every woman is charmed by that silver tongue." Duffau's laughter was swallowed when not one but two pairs of eyes narrowed his way. Eep!

Xavier shook his head and stretched out the bent arm, waving his hand into the air. The air hummed and seemed to split open, producing a portal large enough for even the tallest and widest of them to fit through. "My lady...After you." Another exaggerated bow for the female of the group.

Chuckling she swept by, taking the time to pat Xavier's head as if he were a dog. Pat pat. She swept into the gate as if stepping through a door. The other side had her standing in a vast bedroom. The dark crystal walls drew her attention as she continued forward, finding her way to the table at the far end.

Xavier nudged Duffau out of the way and entered the portal. Duffau trailed after but was hardly the last of the group to enter. An unseen followed, unknown and protecting by command.

Once the gate closed she turned to focus on Xevier. "I do not wish to be in Chaos' chambers." A hand settled on the edge of the table once she was close enough.

Xavier laughed and shook his head, pointing to the bed where a number of dresses awaited inspection. "This is your chamber while you are here, my lady. Lord Chaos wishes you to join him for dinner so please.."

"Isn't it a little late for dinner?" She muttered and glanced to the clothing on the bed.

"Time flows differently here. You of all people should know this." Duffau grunted at her as he made his way to the door and slipped out.

Xavier followed at a much slower pace. "There will be guards outside the door. Just knock when you are ready." He winked and slipped out, the doors closing behind him.

Sighing she rubbed her face. Pleasantries. She wasn't sure if Chaos was trying to woo her, make her comfortable, or try to poison her with food. The last wasn't quite his way. He was much more direct.

She went through the clothes. If she had to participate she would at least do it on her own terms. She scoffed at the dresses. One was way too big and sort of reminded her of the dress Porthos tried to get her in. Another made her think that it was part of a dress...sure that could not be all that there was to the dress? Eventually she slipped out of what she was wearing and into a simple black dress. Stockings and heeled shoes followed and when she found herself in the mirror to examine herself she frowned. The darkness was covering a good bit of her body. She hated the way she looked and turned her head.

The hoodie..would look funny with a dress. She had no way to hide her face now..

Sighing she turned and started to the door, a hand reaching out to knock on the door. The single sound echoed the otherwise silent room. She waited and when the doors opened she tensed faintly, not sure what to expect.

Standing..hovering..on the other end of the door was Chaos himself. The flowing robes that he wore made it hard to believe that there was nothing really there from the waist on down. His brilliant blue eyes held her vision, drinking her in with a cattish smile.

It made her shudder.

Reaching out a hand his long fingers stretched out to her. Her smaller hand followed to gently guide into his own. His fingers curled around her hand and drew her to his side. Turning he started to walk, guiding her down the majestically haunting hallway.

"Why are you doing this, Chaos." She questioned quietly. She felt tired and blamed the trip there for it.

"Doing what, Dark Knight? Treating you to dinner? Lavishing you with a beautiful gown?" The grin grew.

She snorted and tilted her sharp gaze at him.

"A treat, dark one. A treat. Nothing more. You've questions for me, yes?" He lead her to the dining room that was far too large for just the two of them. The table was filled with all sorts of foods but he knew what she liked so a variety of fruits were left to the side of the table that he ushered her to. The chair was drawn out and she settled into the plush crimson seat.

She watched as he lazily started to pluck a bottle from the table, raising it to uncork and pour. Thick, rich ...crimson. She watched the liquid fill the crystal goblet with a dull look that eventually was turned up to Chaos flatly.

"Oh don't give me that look. You know you need it.."

"Will it make me worse?" She questioned. To indulge...Wouldn't it be bad?

She felt his hand caress over her bare shoulder, examining the black that was her skin. Tilting her head she gave the hand a warning look.

"It depends on how you look at it. Your body needs the nourishment and to deprive yourself you are simply killing yourself faster." Leaning down he nipped at her ear. "What is so bad in letting go?"

Her hand rose, swatting the air close to his face in order to get rid of the closeness. He abide by leaning away. "Why...Chaos. Why did you give me only one year knowing this would happen.."

He paused at the question and slowly began to pour his own glass. He remained closed to her side even as the bottle was set aside and his goblet picked up. "Because I could not give you longer. I am sure after your birthday you started to feel it, even with the pact in place. Your body was straining, wasn't it?"

She eyed the glass. "I figured it was from everything that was going on." She had felt like she was falling apart..Dying. She wanted to..

"Your body has always been at war with itself, Dark Knight. But..with the pact in place it was easy to sustain the Reevi part of you. The pact wasn't something meant to save you forever. I did as much as I could to help. That is why I couldn't give you the time you demanded."

"Would you of if you could?"

"Yes." He answered with out a pause and took a drink of the vital.

"Why? Why..would you help me?" Leaning back in her chair she looked to Chaos with confusion.

"Because..there are contracts that were made on your behalf.."

She blinked. Simply...blinked. "C-Contracts?"

He smiled to her and reached out to brush a few strains of her hair. "Yes. You are under my protection and have been since the day you were brought to me. So long as I could still a majority of the Reevi within you I was to do so. Until Caius gave me the word that he no longer needed you."

"What..was the price for this contract?"

"Your soul."

She stared at him, expecting him to say something else but his expression didn't change. "You are..kidding..right?"

"No, I am not. Your soul belongs to me when Caius feels you are of no use to him."

Her stomach dropped. Geez. Her father used her..then sold her to a god. So she really was..just a tool to the one man who was suppose to be father. "What if he died before giving you the..uh..okay?"

Chaos lowered his glass. "That was not a part of our contract so if he has died before giving me the word I suppose that means you are free of the contract." He grinned down to her.

"I already killed him.." The sudden staring of Chaos gave her a brief moment to preen. She had managed to shock the God. "Is there anything I can do..? To stop myself from dying?"

Chaos scowled angrily and drew back, glaring at her like a child who's favorite toy was snatched away. His demeanor calmed and he smiled like someone with a secret. "You wish to rid yourself of your dark half?"

"I don't care what..anything..I don't want to Ascend just to do that."

"You will not be able to Ascend regardless."

She blinked and tilted her head to him.

Chaos moved to a chair and looked as if he was sitting within it. "You are unpure, child. The Gatekeeper would destroy you if you dared go to him with such a notion."

She sighed softly and leaned into her chair. "What about..sealing it?"

He smiled at her, saying nothing. Instead he enjoyed a bit of pork from the roasted pig before him.

"Chaos.."

He sighed and chewed even though he obviously didn't need the food he was enjoying. "You do realize that there has only been a handful of ..your kind. You are the first to reach your age. I am unable to answer that question."

She huffed at him quietly. "Then I guess I will just have to try. I am not going to die..I can't...I won't.."

He smiled at her stubbornness against her own fate. "You have changed, child. It's quite becoming."

She scoffed and lowered her eyes. "I have..reasons to live for.."

His smile grew, knowingly. "You cannot fool these eyes, Dark Knight. I can see the struggle within you that is not the warring of your blood."

"You know nothing.." she snapped and glared to the side.

"I know more then you think I do. Now..what other questions do you have or can we enjoy our dinner?"

She sighed and began to tick off a number of other questions, striving for information to help her condition and ..eventually fill her in on what the Reevi was. They talked for hours on end. She questioned him on a number of ways that could possibly be used, bringing up even the idea that Toby had. He gave little information back to each leaving her wondering if a simple test and error was the best way to go.

There had to be hope..There had to be. She was the first to live as long as she had. She wasn't the first..half-breed. She could ..be the first to survive for a lifetime. She could be the first to succeed...to live..

She could just seal it off..Seal the Reevi..Seal the Altian...Seal..it all. Would that ..make her human?

....her...human...

The concept was weird...

.: May 16th - Early Morning :.

Sitting in the room designated for herself she stared out of the window at the twilight swirls of light. Beautiful colors of dark blues and purples. There was a lot of information to chew on.

Apparently her father never thought..she would make it this far or become..what she was.

Free....

....Living....

....Filled with emotions and wants. Of caring..of thoughts all her own...

He had always thought she would be the perfect little slave until he was ready to be done with her...

Maybe that is what saved her soul from Chaos' clutches...

She smiled faintly and lowered her eyes. Because how she turned out..She was safe to an extent. Because of her..light..

The smile faded and she closed her eyes. She didn't want to think about that.

There was plenty to inform Mayu and Toby about.

The information about the Reevi's had been shorter then she would of liked but she had a feeling that Chaos was being far more helpful then he originally intended on being.

She had even realized this and asked him why..Why was he being so helpful.. His respond was maybe a bit surprising.

'Because you are the most fun I've had in a long time. Would be a bore without having you around to watch over. Consider me a dark guardian angel.'

And yet he would offer absolutely no help to her. No help to prolong her life. Maybe....her soul wasn't as safe as she thought it was? Was there something he wasn't telling her...

Even still... Things went better then she had hoped. Calm even.

She had expected a hall full of people attempting to kill her but for the time she arrived till even now, aside from the constructs and the two that transported her around, she had seen not another soul. Well besides Chaos himself, of course.

The doors opened and she turned a tired eye to the ever cheerful Xavier. Before she knew what was going on he was upon her, pouncing her into the bed. She grunted up at him and sighed. "What are you doing..?"

He stared at her, long and hard. "I got a present for you, my dark lily."

She grunted, loudly. "I swear, Xavier...If you say anything sexual I wil-"

He laughed to her and sat up, pinning her arms to her sides while he sat on her stomach. "Oh wow your mind totally went to the gutter first didn't it! Maybe you want me to?"

She dully stared up at him. "Not really.."

Oh that wounded Xavier's pride and he frowned down to her. "Ouch.."

"What is it already.." Her brows ticked up. "Oh.. Before we leave I was hoping we could stop at the Eternal Valley.."

"Sure! And here. You cannot open it until ...lets see.. A day from now. That should have you rolling in curiosity!" He placed a wrapped box on the center of her bust and she grunted when he patted the box down.

"Would..you..stop..that.." Each word was said as she flailed her hands at his. "I'm.." She flinched. That would of been a pure lie. Turning her eyes she grunted. "I'm not interested.."

"In me? Give it time. Maybe one day you can learn to love me." She sat up sharply, barely meeting his chin with her eyes. He could feel her warm breath against his neck.

"Don't get your hopes up, Xavier. Now get the hell off of me." Her arms had moved against his thighs and knees, not caring if his armor scraped at her bare arms.

Grumbling his hands rose up to her shoulders, clenching tightly.

"Wh..What are you.." Her stomach turned. He wasn't..getting any ideas was he? Xavier never seemed the type to...

He shoved her back onto the bed and at the same time pushed himself off. He laughed and shoved the white hair from his face. "We both know that innocent act is a bunch of bullshit. You are a killer! Start acting like one!" His hand reached out to her, grabbing her hand to pull her to sit up.

"Time to go!"

"Yeah..don't forget. Detour first."

Xavier nodded and watched as she stood. The rip tore the air and she passed through, him to follow.

.: May 20th - Afternoon :.

"Nnnhhhh.." Her body twisted on the floor and a eye slowly rolled open. The attic..of the shop. That was where she was. She vaguely remembered being picked up...

The day had already started or had been long since started and she was just now..waking up? How long ago had Gauge left her there after her 'fit'?

Good grief..One could only guess what he was thinking. The guy went out of his way to 'rescue' her when he found her blood drenched and on the street, passed out. He lost a piece of his armor because of her. Armor she vowed to get back for him if only out of the fact she owed him.

When asked what she remembered she recalled it clear as day. Leaving the shop early morning to hopefully catch Mayu and treat her to breakfast. She remembered making her way down the street...

Then waking up to Max groping and herself bathed in vital. Both of these sent up alarms. Of course Max hadn't really been groping her but he was just going to have to deal with the fact she thought he had been!

She had not expected to spend the afternoon trying to explain herself. Why she was found in that state...Why she didn't remember.

Time was lost...

....hours of it....

Even still Gauge had taken the information rather well. It was comforting in a way. It was like ..like talking to another merc around a campfire. She wasn't worried that he might attempt to hit on her because she was well aware that wasn't the case. But he was..as he stated..a friend..he worried about the state she had been in.

Even still....she couldn't bring herself to tell him more then he really needed to know and what he did squeeze out of her was sworn to secrecy. She didn't want the Guard after her or worse...

Thinking over the events made her rub her mouth with a mild set of worry. Eventually she sighed and rolled onto her side, flinching at the pain that wailed up her side and straight into her head. Fingers clawed into the flooring, as if it would help dull the pain.

..it didn't...

When the wave settled she hissed out a breath and forced herself to her feet. She needed to do something to keep herself busy. Sister Robyn was still looking through books in attempt to find..a way.

...who needed Xavier's book.

They would still find a way..

She found herself wanting to find Mayu and Toby...make sure they were okay..

Something was different. She couldn't place her finger on it even as she left the shop.

Something felt...odd.

.: May 22th - Early Evening :.

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes!!"

"Damn it, Sera--"

Toby pulled the door closed on the church's underground training rooms and began the slow, dark, winding ascent upward into the main level. The passage was cool and drafty, the torches on the walls spaced too far apart in some areas to see anything worthwhile. He'd been voted to go bring Katt down, and guessed he could be back with her before they even finished arguing.

Katt was pretty much keeping herself out of view..out of the way..and keeping herself occupied. Really it was the only way to stop herself from sneaking out. She had found the cemetery a number of hours ago and stuck herself under the single tree. Legs bent with the sketchbook against her knees, she was writing. A lot. Several pages worth in fact. Even though it was getting dark her eyes squinted at the paper.

He checked the kitchen and that had nothing but Marlena and Erica chattering with Nina working.. He hadn't given Katt a room when they got back. He strode across the nave, looking aside at the display of shining stained glass and gleaming silver pipes of the windows and organ behind the pulpit. He ended up smiling as he went along. The outdoor corridor that led to the cemetery was cooler and breezier than the passage. He squinted at the wind, his eyes looking over the graveyard that really needed to be tended again.

The page was finished, folded, turned over, and she started on a fresh page. Thankfully she was back to the breeze and the tree assisted all the more so she wasn't at all bothered. Sighing she scratched out a number of words with violent scrapes of the pencil before writing again.

Sister Matilda hadn't been back yet, so her flowers and actual gardens were still grown over. He'd have to do those too. He stepped forward into the graveyard at the sight of Katt's hunched over figure, clearing his throat the closer he got. "Hey."

Katt's hand tensed around the pencil, forcing herself to stop from snapping it at the sound of the voice. Tilting her head back she glanced in his direction. The writing ceased and the pencil was set to rest against the open page. "Hi..."

"They're ready." He paused in front of her, waiting. "They sent me up to come get you. Are *you* ready?"

She released a breath that sounded more like a heavy sigh. Tucking the book and pencil into her bag she paused before forcing herself up to her feet. "They?" Her eyes drifted up to look at him fully. She really couldn't answer the question. "As can be I guess.."

"Mhm. Give me your hand?" He held one of his out to her, palm up. "It'll all be over with tonight. Look forward to that, okay..?" He smiled gently.

Her face twitched a bit at the request. She stared at his hand long and hard. Slowly her hand reached out to rest in his own, a small nod dipping her chin. "R..right.."

His hand curled hard around hers, making sure he had a good grip. He waited, repeating a single word over and over again in his head, a name, until it was the only thing he could think about. He closed his eyes, his mouth moving. "Patrick."

The scenery changed immediately. They weren't standing on grass anymore but polished hardwood. The vast room they were in smelled old and slightly musty, like rust and leather, sweat, candles and a faint amount of blood. Patrick and Sera's heated voices, still in the throes of argument, echoed all the way to the unseen ceiling above, even as the former neared them, his power being the one that called them down in the first place.

Katt tensed like someone had just thrown a bucked of water on her. Her head dipped but her eyes shifted to Patrick, growing cold. Her arm coiled, attempting to pull her hand away from Toby's as the rest of her attempted to retreat back and away from the incoming figure. There was no question how they got there only that something..wasn't expected.

"Don't, calm down, Katt.." Patrick's easy stride belied the fire burning in his golden eyes. He fixed the two of them with an unnervingly steady and constant stare, the little figure of Sera bobbing up and down as she ran to catch up with them.

"Toby, K-Katt..!" Sera stopped in front of Katt, reaching out to her with both hands. "D-don't be af-fraid..! We want to h-help you. Wh-when T-Toby c-came to us..Patrick, t-tell her you w-w-want to help h-her!!"

Like a caged animal Katt hissed at Sera and jerked away. If Toby's hand was still attempting to hold hers he'd find her hand yanking out with force enough that he nearly would take off her glove. It wasn't Sera she was attempting to escape but Patrick himself. Up until seeing him..there was no thought that someone powerful enough to do the ritual would be found. But now.. Faded eyes darted for the exit.

"Way to go, kid, you didn't tell her?"

Toby staggered sideways, unaware that he actually had to be alert. He thought that it would all just go smooth..like all the other times they had to fix her. His fingers closed tight around her hand, trying to keep it from fully slipping away as he attempted to yank her into him and loop an arm firmly around her waist. "Calm down, I'm sorry I had to tell them, but they're the only ones that can do something about this.."

Sera stared wide eyed at the reaction she received, her grey green eyes brimming with tears, small hands lowering to her sides. Only at a nudge in the back from Patrick did she get moving..dipping down every so often onto the ground to draw on the wood with the tip of her finger that she had bitten open.

"You said she ain't possessed, right?"

"No, she's not."

"Sure acts like it.."

The yank provided drew Katt in but only to a certain degree. Her other hand lashed out for his Toby's throat. Caught or not her fingers were already tearing past the leather that was her gloves. Which..Boo! She had liked those gloves! The whole while she was attempting to dance her way around Toby to place him between herself and Patrick. Oh there was glaring from the shadows of the hood. Pure whites just a glaring at Toby for his apology..

"K-K-Katt!!"

"See this is why I didn't want ya down here, Sera."

Toby grunted, a spike of fear hiking up in his stomach as her fingers closed around his throat. His eyes flicked quickly up to Sera, who pointed to the spot she had marked, even as he was swung to fit between her and Patrick. 'Be sure ya let go and get outta that quick, otherwise yer gonna be stuck in it too.' Toby's right eye blinked gold, the left taking a little longer to show just how much yoki he had released. He shoved into the ground, rocketing forward into Katt, trying to pin her down in the designated spot. One hand closed into a fist, shooting sideways toward her elbow, trying to get her to let go of him.

Dangerous claws, sharp and deadly, curled into flesh. There was a brief moment where they relaxed, caught on what she was doing. The tackle brought Katt right back into the dark place, mouth opening to hiss once again but this time not even attempting to conceal the canines. They were bared openly as she was knocked back. Reaction to the landing was nothing more then a grunt and she attempted to curl forward into him. Teeth snapped..missing the intented target of shoulder if. The slam to her elbow making her fingers spasm and drew attention. The release was there but only because she was striving to refresh the grip.

Whatever fear had been there had faded, replaced by a determination that shown in the flat line of his mouth and the squint of his golden eyes. He knew she wasn't going to hurt him, that this wasn't her. That she was just..pissed off or something. It had only started when she saw Patrick. Maybe because he was an angel..or something.. "KNOCK IT OFF!!" he bellowed down at her, even as her hand closed again around his throat. The same hand that he'd punched at her elbow with was barreling toward her gut with insane speed.

"I can't finish if he's still in there, he'll g-g-get s-stuck!!"

"Too damn bad, I told him to get out." There was a rush of wind, the sound of large wings unfurling and being flapped menacingly. All the while, Patrick neared the pair on the ground, his hair continuously moving like he was standing in the wind.

Off to the side, Sera clasped her hands and began to mutter under her breath. One by one, the runes she had scribbled in blood onto the floor gleamed to life, white gold and unreadable. They traveled in two separate directions around Katt and Toby, circling.

Tell that to the claws biting into Toby's neck. A thickly strained sound came out from Katt's lips when she first caught wiff of something she had been denying herself for months. Without any warning she started to thrash under Toby, attempting to get away and still, momentarly by the impact. Her body curled inward then collasped back into the floor, the hood spilling from her face and spilling the white strains of hair against nearly black consumed flesh. She gasped for breath like a fish out of water while trying to keep that grasp on Toby's throat.

"GET OUT, IT'S ALMOST CLOSED!!"

The encroaching, golden holy energy around them had risen in a dome that, when he fought for a look up, he found to be almost completely sealed off. He grunted as the silk of his scarf tore right along with his skin. He stabbed his fist down toward the same spot in Katt's stomach he had just punched, ripping at her hand to get it free of him despite the itching, stinging pain.

Katt's body bounced at the second slam into the already singing area and she made a choking sound. Her hand retracted, fingers flexed as if to scratch his face but fell back because of his own grip. Her body squirmed, mixed between a want to escape and trashing in pain.

"GUH..!" He shoved into the ground, using all the power that he could manage to shoot him straight up into the air. His skin and hair sizzled as it was touched by the closing barrier. It closed the very second his foot clear the top of the dome.

Sera heaved a heavy sigh of relief.

Toby pitched around in the air, tumbling down sloppily into the ground with hard thuds that looked as painful as they sounded. Patrick eyed him with some shadow of amusement as he stopped outside of the barrier.

"Alright, now that we've got her..I think I know what I'm s'posed to do. Some of the crap in that book was written in somethin' I didn't recognize, but I got the gist."

Toby rolled onto his back, coughing, his hands pulling at the scarf to get it away from the wounds on his throat. What would have happened if he'd let May do this..

Katt's legs lashed, forced movement spinning her along the ground. In the movement she curled like a cat, arms tucked under her chest with palms flat and her feet finding under her. She sneered and took a bound forward. Claws extended scratched at what was the wall of the barrier and cry of pain escaped her. Staggering back she lowered her hands to her sides, the tips smoking from the contact. Even while the pain rang her body kept in motion but now pacing like a caged animal ready for just one little opening..just one..

Patrick watched the display before him with complete indifference. In fact, he looked like there were thousands of other places that he could think of being. "Sera, you keep this damn thing burnin' as hard as you can for as long as you can. Toby, get over here, and don't heal yerself just yet, I need some of yer blood too."

Toby rolled over onto his side, then found his way to his feet. He limped for the first couple of steps, making his way over to Patrick's side. His friend opened one hand to his neck, smearing his palm in the oozing crimson all over his adam's apple.

"Knife," Patrick ordered. "Cut this hand."

Toby produced his dagger with a soft gesture of his hand, slicing open the flat of Patrick's waiting palm. His eyes were still on Katt, his jaw clenched. "You sure you know what you're doing..?"

"Almost, maybe, 'bout ninety-five percent sure. Hey, worst case scenario, she dies and things are a whole helluva lot easier for the rest of us."

Katt's head rocked slowly side to side as she watched Toby and Patrick, like a marionette's rolling head. Eventually her eyes turned onto Sera and the pacing ceased. Instead she turned to the small woman and stared at her like a beast finding it's dinner from the shadows. She stared at Sera, attempting to unease the woman..maybe stagger her attempt to keep the barrier up.

"Thank ya. And I'll have to warn you. If yer demon ex keeps lookin' at my woman like that, I may just say screw this and kill her myself." Patrick took a breath, and exhaled it. The gold of his eyes shined brilliantly even through his eyelids as he pushed his bloodstained palms forward toward the barrier. The muscles of his arms strained, fighting against the force of a being that didn't want to be sealed, or helped. The blood on his hands sizzled when contact was made, gleaming crimson patterns spiraling across the barrier's surface. His senses reached out toward Katt, guiding his own power along. Within the barrier, the air became balmy and heated, but filled with an overwhelming sense of comfort, love and security.

Sera squeaked when Katt's attention found her, her chant momentarily faltering. But Patrick's steadily released power didn't just live inside the barrier. It crawled through the air outside of it too, finding her, filling her, strengthening her. She squeezed her eyes shut, stuffed her clasped hands up against her face and continued her part of the ritual.

Katt hadn't been paying attention to Patrick. In fact Sera was the target until the air became thick, making it hard to breath as shallow as she had been. A flick of confusion found her otherwise lifeless expression. Not completely understanding the feeling that surrounded her. Breathing heavily through her nose she turned her attention to Patrick since he was now offically closer. Twitch. The flesh of her nose wrinkled and relaxed, for the time that pacing ceased.

Toby didn't know what he was supposed to do now. He pulled at the scarf until it came free of his neck, the deep, painful slices there knitting together one by one.

From their talks, albeit ridiculously brief ones, that gist that Patrick had gotten was mostly that when he was done, if he didn't kill her, she was supposed to be something that resembled a Human. Toby had spoken more about the deeper, darker side that needed to be sealed immediately, but there was also another part that would have to go along with it. The outside of the dome, its halves clearly marked with demonic and angelic runes alike, began to hum. The balmy air inside of the dome whirred in a slow, tight circle around Katt..then began to shrink. Patrick wanted to focus on pushing, pulling, sucking..whatever he had to do to that darker part..to get it back inside of her into a managable enough amount to fully seal.

Katt's chin rocked back and she struggled out a breath. Her mouth opened..slowly closing after a hiss. Eyes squinted, glaring at Patrick then over his shoulder to Toby. Her expression relaxed, even softening into a weak expression. "Mhhh..Mak..eee..him..s....stop." The words struggled out of her lungs like speaking them was some great process. With no place to go she curled into her spot, her face tightening up. She felt something..snagging..yanking..clawing.."Sttttoppp.."

Toby stepped around Patrick, his hand closed around the scarf that was sort of ruined in a few spots, and met her eyes. He didn't say anything, there was no expression that flickered across his face..he simply watched. He didn't think he could have done this a couple months ago..standing there useless. Her words, her face, how pathetic she looked..all of that would have eaten at him. But right now..he didn't feel much of anything besides impatience.

Patrick's fingertips curled into the barrier. The half that had the demonic runes skittering all across its surface glowed brighter than the other as he fed steady streams of raw divine force into that cramped space. The humid cuccoon surrounding Katt wound tighter with each passing second.

Katt stared back finding..nothing. Nothing that would help. Her eyes rocked back and hallowed out a shriek. Like shadows meeting light, the blackness that clung to her skin began to shy back, melting away. Hugging her middle she staggered, shaking her head and straining against the wrapping. She could feel it closing it..demanding. To say it hurt would of been an understatement. Physical pain she could handle..had been..but it was everywhere at once.

Sera's sob echoed after Katt's wail, Patrick's head snapping to the side.

"Toby," Patrick pleaded in a voice that weighed heavy with regret.

Toby rushed for the collapsing, smaller figure. Her chant continued through her tears as Sera fell against him, her face buried into his arm. She didn't want to hear any of this. There was always a possibility that doing these things would hurt those going through it, but those screams weren't something she could handle forever.

A golden aura spilled from the crown of Patrick's head to the soles of his feet. Magnificent wings seemingly forged of light stretched out wide from his shoulderblades, shimmering feathers extended. He had to compensate for Sera's lacking strength. At least for now. She'd get herself put together soon. Hopefully. He could already feel some strain on his reserves.

The shriek ended on a choke, Katt's hands falling to her asides, twitching..twitching.. As the last bit of darkness spilled from her an energy began to spill from her, rocketing out violently to trash at the barrier around her. It joined the balmy wrap around her enough that it whipped her hair around her face with the force. It nearly seemed to join, encourage that what was already around her but at the same time emptying her out like a tap with a broken handle.

"My Father..I need your help. ...Yes. Yes, I know what I have said about her, but--" Patrick grunted, his wings shuddering as he held on tight to the barrier. The demonic runes across the surface surged into the angelic ones, glittering crimson letters continuously being written and rewritten along the barrier. This must have been the other part of her. It was just as strong as the darker half that he had managed to keep maintained. He could feel its chaos in an imaginary ball in his left hand. (s)"F-For their sake..lend me the strength to finish this." Patrick lowered himself to his knees, sweat beading on his brow. Even through it all, the amount of energy he shoved into the barrier to chase after the storming power Katt was now releasing didn't waver.

Sera rubbed her face against Toby's chest, unwilling to unclasp her hands, and peeked around his arm. He felt her gasp, he turned his eyes to Patrick, watching his friend's tight, glowing face, his teeth grit in concentration.

Katt Batten

A breath rushed out and in it Katt followed Patrick's fall a handful of moments later. Only she didn't end with her knees. Pitching back she landed hard on her back. The winds fluxed sharply, razoring against the barrier. It dropped along with her, skimming the ground around her form until it suddenly, without warning..ceased. She was left to the ground, eyes staring at the ceiling unblinking and half opened.

Patrick didn't know if that was a good or a bad thing, so he just treated it as good. At least she wasn't raging against him anymore. With his hands figuratively full of energy of two different kinds, he redirected his own power into finding a place within her to store them..and lock them down. He panted, swallowing, sweat running down his face and dripping on the ground.

Sera shuddered, squirming in Toby's arms, her eyes locked on Patrick, her mouth still moving with her chant. He dropped his hold from her..watched her rush to Patrick, darting around the drooping form of wings. She threw her arms around his neck, leaning into his back, her clasped hands at the base of his throat. Shimmering, golden dust enveloped her until Toby could barely make out the differences in the two people outside they barrier. They looked like one, a shiny mass of energy.

Patrick hung his head as Sera kissed his ear. Suddenly, his wings snapped open, stretching wide, at attention.

Aside from a little sound as if someone had just shoved their hands into her chest Katt was quiet..still. The only real movement was the tears that crept from the corners of her eyes and seeped back into her hair. If she had been in her right mind? If she had been awake to see? Ooo..shiny!

Patrick found a spot for one ball of figurative energy, his left hand smoothing along the barrier like he was pushing something into place. His right followed suit soon afterward. The heated air wrapped tight around Katt, draining into her, covering, blocking, sealing. He directed his power, Sera's..and the spare amount he felt gifted to him from above..in a tight knit net. Layer after layer was applied like plaster.

There was little to no response from Katt's body. It would almost seem as if she had gone into an unconscious state.

The ritual stated that there were supposed to be marks, five of them, and Patrick just figured that they'd show up now since this was when the actual sealing was happening. He squeezed his hands into the barrier, an equivalent of placing two markings..one on each wrist. Sera's body was a comfortable weight against him, her power draining into him and feeding the barrier. He didn't know where she got all that strength from, but he was glad it was there.

One wrist..the other..markings began to scroll around each like someone was moving a burning bar along Katt's flesh. If it hurt she didn't show it, not that they were really burned into her flesh. When the second found her wrist completely her chest began to rise and fall in short shot breaths.

"Start shrinking it. The barrier's gonna be the power for the seal that holds everything in place," Patrick said, his words punctuated by wheezing breaths.

Sera nodded, unclasping her hands. Her palms smoothed down to Patrick's elbows and she watched the barrier with heavy concentration. The dome gleamed white hot, the crimson runes washed away by the light. Then it started to shrink in toward Katt. When it became too small to keep holding onto, Sera slipped off of Patrick, her hands facing Katt.

Patrick inched forward on his knees, following it.

Katt's breaths became shorter..shorter..ceased. Held in her lungs. It was the last movement created as her body cringed inwardly.

Layers upon layers..upon layers of what was left of the energy he had were applied onto the two places he had stuffed Katt's warring energies until he could only feel a ridiculous amount of divine essence. His hands tensed again, the second set of marks placed.

Another set of scrolls worked around Katt's ankles, visual markers that the seals were quickly finding their places. Still no movements at least outwardly were made but the sense of what was being done was there..granted it was dully felt.

"Everything we've got now..everything we've got." The light of the barrier chased away the shadows of the training room. The sets of armor and weapons, and the trophies of slain demons on the far walls were lit up in the brilliant light..those trophies mounted high, up toward, and even on the ceiling.

Toby shielded his eyes as the couple continued to inch toward Katt, the edges of the barrier now making contact with her body, rushing up to a spot on her face where the last mark was supposed to be placed.

Patrick's hands lowered to Katt's face first, followed by Sera's. And they waited as the glow was drawn beneath their combined palms. It moved slowly, like water down a half clogged drain.

Depending on where their hands were they would find no breath to greet flesh, air still held tightly in her lungs. It was slowly released as the last mark found her forehead. The five markings flicked as golden as the power that was sealing them. Once..twice..falling into a dull black once they had settled.

Sera swayed when she felt the last mark put into place and sealed tight, catching herself with her hands.

Patrick sighed, the golden glow that had been enveloping him falling away. The vision of his wings faded like smoke. His eyes rolled back in his head as his strength died out, he met the floor heavily and didn't move.

Toby squinted from between his hands, jogging forward just as Sera had succeeded in pulling Patrick's head into her lap.

Sera smoothed his hair back from his heated face, her own eyes still white gold with lingering energy should it be needed. They lifted to Toby..and they both looked down at Katt at the same time.

Bodies all over the floor! A sudden inhale was taken to deeply fill Katt's lungs, like it was her first time ever breathing. It was sharp enough that her back actually raised off the ground before she fell. Her body relaxed as her breathing settled. She didn't exactly wake up though..
The slow rise and fall of Katt's chest would of suggested sleep but it was one of those annoying sleeps where..despite your want your mind is ticking away and partly aware of your surroundings. She was not aware that she still had someone nearby. So she tried, again, to move a hand but failed. Again she gave up.. Maybe rest was just the way to go.

He wasn't sure if she was trying to wake up or having some really awkward dream. He figured if he stayed quiet, she might go back to sleep. He didn't want to leave when there was still a chance she'd get up. He rested his chin on his knees..studying her, waiting.

Wait..what was she doing before? Sluggishly she recalled things..right up to taking Toby's hand..Patrick's..face..Why..was his face ..and Sera.. "(vsw) Nhhmf.....Thh.." Mentally kicking herself for being unable to speak she huffed a breath. Sinking into the bed completely her body relaxed into the prickly sensation. She would sleep for now..ask questions in the morning..or whenever she wakes up.

Katt Batten

Date: 2011-05-24 12:37 EST
"D-Do you th-think it worked?" Sera asked, her hand stilling on the side of Patrick's neck.

Toby knelt down near them, his eyes running over Katt first, then Patrick. "I'm sure it did, she'll be alright when she wakes up..probably hungry as hell. Hopefully."

"Y-your n-neck. Is it a-a-alright?"

"Yeah, Sera..I'm okay. They're healed, it looks worse than it is."

Sera suddenly giggled. "Y-you're the only one s-strong enough to c-carry them back ups-stairs."

"(vsw) Nhhh.." Katt huffed a quiet breath, her fingers twitching. Her brows twitched and her hands shifted sharply. No matter where she placed her hands..it felt..weird. Very ..very weird. She tried to whimper but it was more like a gurgly upset sound. There was voices..and they boomed!

Toby blinked, his eyes wide as he looked down at Katt. "Geez, she's awake already..?" He laid the back of his hand across her forehead, then smoothed her hair back.

Sera's eyes returned to Patrick.

Katt inhaled sharply and tilted her head to the side. She felt something go across her forehead that felt similar to a number blunt needles dancing across. It didn't hurt but it felt..weird. "(vsw) Thh..lahh.."

"T-Toby, t-take her upstairs to the r-room next to m-mine."

He looked up at Sera, her wet eyes landed on him in return..she nodded to his unasked question. He slid his hand carefully under the back of Katt's neck..his other behind her knees.

"Sh-she is th-the priority. W-We will b-be fine d-down here for n-now."

"Sure.. Thank you..both of you, I don't know what--"

Sera shook her head, blond curls sticking to her cheeks. "Th-thank us when y-you're sure the w-w-work is d-done."

Even the softest of the two voices split her head. As much as Katt wanted to try and move but nothing she did would allow it. Her body felt like jello. Cherry jello. The good stuff!

Toby scooped Katt up into his arms, holding her securely to his chest and turned for the door on the other side of the wide floor with one last regretful look on the pair he was leaving behind. As he let himself into the narrow passage with Katt, he hoped she wouldn't open her eyes.

"I thought they'd never leave," Patrick said weakly the moment door closed behind Toby.

Sera smiled knowingly. "J-Just rest for n-now. D-Don't worry abou th-them."

Patrick coughed a chuckle. "Listen to you.. I mean..I love the kid, really. But that girl.." He blew a raspberry.

Toby wouldn't have to worry about that. As hard as Katt tried her eyelids wouldn't rise. A few huffs after the struggle and she gave up. Her head was splitting and her body felt prickly. She murmured, an attempt to talk that didn't quite make words.

Toby wondered if she would still need blood now that she was sealed. He knew she hadn't had any. It reminded him he needed to clean up..and fix his scarf. He carefully navigated the cramped stairwell and thrust his back into the door that opened into a hallway that was just as cramped.

Lordy lordy..it was a good thing she couldn't open her eyes..Katt probably would of had a conniption fit in her state. After a few rolls of her tongue she huffed out a breath and went silent. What effort she could do had her resting against the moving source that was holding her.

"Eek, good heavens!!" a nun squeaked when she opened the door Toby was just about to walk through.

She flattened herself out of his way, he offered her a lazy smile and a nod of gratitude..continuing through to the other side of the nave. He backed into the door that opened to the last corridor he had to take, then into the room neighboring Sera's. It looked exactly the same..just less lived in. Leaning over, he gently settled Katt onto the bed.

Another voice. It shattered the silent air and sent Katt shuddering. The shaking was short lived. But oh heavens! A bed! She hadn't been in one of those in ages. Her brows twitched before her face relaxed and she slowly released a sigh out when she was settled onto the bed. While the rest of her was inactive her brain was waiting...for something. She wasn't sure what though.

Toby disentangled himself from her, moving to the wardrobe where neat stacks of sheets and blankets sat ready to be used on the bottom. He shook out the thinnest blanket and draped it across Katt's body, up to her chest. He would have to leave the room for water.. Sighing, he pulled the chair from the desk over to the side of her bed and sat, his knees drawn up to his chest.
