Ixora entered the New Eden corporation, the reception lobby was reminiscent of a hospital not that she had ever seen or heard of one. She noticed the advertisements that littered the room. Screens with a young woman proclaiming promises of what the MegaCorps had to offer for those who chose to work for them. She wondered if the secretary who worked the front desk ever got annoyed with listening to the woman's speech repeat itself over all day long.

Confidence exuded off of her as she approached the brunette secretary, "I am here to apply for work."

An application was slapped onto the desk, "We'll need to see identification and documentation of your birth as well as a resume so we can make copies." The woman's response was automatic and she snapped the gum she was chewing only to return to her crossword or whatever it was she was doing. She wasn't used to seeing such things and she didn't make an effort to look and see what exactly it was.

Ixora snatched a pen off the desk and seated herself in one of the empty seats of the lobby, filling out the paper. It took a while before she had finished the tedious task. When the application had been completed she set the paper down along with her ID, birth certificate, and the sheet with her supposed work experience claiming her as Ixa Dazz.

The secretary rose to her feet, picked up the papers and placed each one down individually on top of a rectangular glass item that rested on one of the counters. Ixora tried not to stare at it in foreign manner as a laser scanned over the page and printed an exact replica of each item. If she hadn't been there under the order of another person then she might have allowed herself to stand there with her mouth agape in an astonished manner.

There was no interview. Instead she had been instructed to wait in one of the chairs for the person that she would be working under to meet her. She wasn't given a specific time nor an estimate of how long she would have to wait. Her gaze roamed over the room, absorbing each aspect of it while she waited as patiently as she possibly could.

A tall, clean-shaven, clean-cut Human male with light blonde hair and hazel eyes came out from one of the Blue-grey doors along the walls of the Reception hall. He was in a fairly nice grey suit, white dress-shirt, a burgundy tie and squieky black dress shoes. A file folder in his hand as he approached Ixora, with a cheesy smile of perfect teeth. Hand out, a class ring on his right ring finger he adressed Ixora.

"Miss Ixa Dazz, I persume? I'm Mr. Johnson and I am with the Human Resources department. You are here for a Secretary job then? If you will please follow me I will go over your application with you."

This man seemed so carbon-copy, starched and bleached. He had cheap collonge on and his clothes smelled of starch and mothballs. Shoes just too bright with the black shoe polish. One would swear he was a Robot, but very Human, just another Wage-Slave of the MegaCorps.

The scent caused Ixora to cringe mentally. She knew that when she recently docked that she often carried the smell of the seas with her, but she had made a point to clean herself up for the job. She wondered if it would kill the man to smile, everyone seemed so dull so far. This was going to be just great. She hoped that not all of the employees acted that way or hopefully that maybe someone was just a bad day. She put more of that hope on the man she was sure she would have to work with for the most part. It would be much easier if she could get him off his guard and work her way into his circle of trust.

If she could do that then the information she needed could be garnered a lot more quickly and then relayed to her liaison - Kendall.

"Is that all that's on the agenda for today or will we be doing other things as well?" She inquired in order to deduce if she would be doing any actual work that day or if she were simply getting hired in and starting at a later time.

The man in the suit, Mr. Johnson, did give a slight smile, not much though and nodded to Ixxy.

"My my, a real go getter, thats very good Ms. Dazz, we like that here in the New Eden Colony Recruitment Center. Keep that spirit and you will go far in the Corperation. I will show you arround a bit of the Office, can't show you too much. Have to do a quick clearance with the Local Law Enforcement. It would be a waste of time trying to track your records down from Earth. After all there are many Earths and you come from a past History. If all checks out, you will start work tomorrow morning, 9am sharp. At a very reasonable wage of 10 Credits per hour at 40 hours a week."

He then showed her to his Cubicle, one of many Office cubicles in the large and very busy office. All neat and tidy, few decorations, except for somr bright, cheery and very indoctrinating slogans in picture frames. Some green plants, the office a buzz with phone calls, people typing away. Couriers taking this item or that item from place to place. Mr. Johnson offered her a seat at his desk as he promptly sat down, behind his small desk.

Ixora

The smile wasn't much, but at least she knew that he had one. "I hope I am able to serve you as well as I can, now shall we get started?" She asked, piquing a brow at him as she settled into the chair that he had ushered her towards.

She looked behind her, before shifting her attention back towards the man and fixating her gaze upon him. "And where exactly should I report in the morning? Would you like me to meet you here or is there somewhere else you would rather have me go?" Better to figure all that out then to have to deal with the secretary in the reception lobby again.

It was a good thing that she had gone to see Kuro the night before or she might not have handled the situation with such an air of confidence. She might have been on edge and on constant alert with the way he hyped the entire corporation up to be. Instead, she was at ease and acted as normal as possible since she was able to be a little more relaxed.

Mr. Johnson gave another manufactured smile to Ixxy, almost programmed to do so, to be pleasent.

"Well Ms. Dazz, as per the Regulations, you come in at the Reception desk, and code in your Office worker number which will be assigned to you in the Morning. You can't miss the Time clock, its the large, flat black glossy screen kiosk to the right of the Recpetion Desk. Its voice activated and the virtual screen will appear on the surface. Your voice has already been recorded for recognition purposes. You will pick up your office code and your Key card at the Reception desk. The Key card is to be designated for Blue Areas, the lowest level of Security access."

He then paused to take a breath, then back to the spiel..

"All Doors and Hallways to areas are color coded, Blue being the areas you have access to. Your workspace and the Breakroom on this floor are all in the Blue Areas. When you are given your Office code, Key card and once you have coded yourself into the Time Clock, it will direct you to which Blue Area section you are to goto.

If you have a question, just ask for a Map, one will be displayed. However if you have any other questions, just ask me I am the Office Manager for Sections Blue 1 through to Blue 4. Thats of course if you are assigned to my Sections. If not then a Ms. Tamoshi Irikawa is the Office Manager for sections Blue 5 through Blue 8.

Now Ms. Dazz do you have any other questions to ask about the Office, what you will be doing? If not would you like to see our state of the art and ergonomically efficient breakroom?"

Ixora

Date: 2009-10-16 15:23 EST
The woman shrugged. She restored and garnered everything he had told her about the place. Now did she have any questions? Not any really.

"Yeah. Let's take a look at that," she answered and rose from her chair to wait for him to take her and show her around. "Do I get a personal tour of the places I have access to or do I just get to see the breakroom?" Her smile was sugar coated and sweet in hopes of getting the man to lighten up a bit. He didn't seem real to her at all. And again, she hoped the same wasn't true for all of the workers.

"Is the breakroom off limits to people who aren't employees? I suspect that my kid sister will want to come in and have lunch with me once in a while," she told him. "Is there a certain place I'll have to meet with her?" She quirked a brow at him, waiting for him to answer and lead the way.

Walking through the busy maze of large office space, which was easily the size of a Football field. Bright pale-yellow florescent lights humming away, the humming of Computer terminals, 3D displays. It was all quite High tech stuff really, a chaotic-controlled mess. Data pouring in and out of the various cubicles. There were a few smiles here and there, mainly from the new people. Mr. Johnson showed Ixxy to the large atrium-like breakroom, which was an understatement. It was more like a huge Cafeteria, with a glass walled, with doors enclosed garden with a huge skylight above. There were people in this said garden eating lunch at one of the several tables.

The large cafeteria, which was set between the two ground floor office areas, was able to at least hold upto a thousand or more people at a time. It had a variety of resturantes, buffet style, not unlike a massive food court at a shopping mall. Hell there was even a few boutiques for that very thing, shopping. People paid for their meals at the food shops and would sit at one of the many long tables or smaller round tables. The air was abuzz with people talking and some laughing over jokes. It was a less intense place, a place to relax. There were however a ton of surveilance cameras. A reminder of Big brother.

Johnson addressed Ixxy.. "You can go anywhere that is a blue section, here being one, the offices on this floor. The Bathrooms of course, thought you need your key card to get in the Bathroom. You are allowed to have one person here for lunch, family preferred. Your sister has to check in with the Front desk. And you best make sure with me or Ms. Irikawa, that you have this meeting with your sister for lunch on the schedule. What days and what times, so there is no problems. And if you like you can have your sister join you here for lunch at the Cafeteria. Employees can also go offsite for lunch, as long you indicate you are going offsite when you clock out. There is a timeclock terminal in the offices, by the enterance-exit to each office area. "

Ixora had a natural tendency to absorb everything in sight, even the most minute of details. Her gaze grabbed at everything while she followed the man, taking it all in at once. "Great. I'll talk to her about when she plans on coming in to see me then so I can get an agenda set up on those matters."

"Would a close friend or boyfriend, if I have one, be acceptable as a guest?" She asked him on that note. She hadn't stated that she necessarily had a boyfriend, but Kuro had mentioned that it wouldn't be a bad thing to have Zeo play that role. Still, she had met with the troll and already talked that matter over with him the night before. If Zeo did play such a role then it might look strange with Ken working the garage and him living there. Might make people curious. Unless Ixxy was just over thinking the whole thing. She tended to do that sometimes. Xaphan was always telling her that it was better to be too careful than screw yourself over by thinking even something small would pass off and go by without notice.

She also noted that by looking over the room that she would have to have Zeo show her the Credstick Reader as he had offered her since she still had no clue what one was supposed to look like. If she expected to be able to purchase things then she would have to figure out exactly how the whole purchase operated. Maybe she would ask Zeo later when she got him to show her that Reader. If not then she would ask Kuro about it, they both seemed to have a better understanding and grasp of the whole thing. Still, she offered to the table what she could.

Mr. Johnson paused for a moment and looked at Ixxy with a bit of disapproval, then spoke, eliquently and also as if reciting from some manual.

"As long as said relationship partner does not cause anything to disrupt the function of the Office worker enviroment. As well as not being employed by said Corporation in this buidling, then it is acceptable. But no displays of affection are allowed on the Grounds of this Building."

Then just as suddenly Mr. Johnson was back to his, err, normal self. He was abit creepy in some ways. Then again, when working as a wage-slave, it was bound to happen. He gave his odd smile and gestured her to follow him arround the vast Cafeteria, showing her the various restuarants. They did have quite a variety of foods, from Seafood, to Chinese, Japanese, American-style fast food and Mexican. Then again, all of them seemed to be fast-food joints, just very fancy.

Ixora

The inside of the cafeteria or breakroom, whatever the Corporate sons of b****** wanted to call it, reminded Ixora of an indoor Market more than anything. She'd never really been inside of a building that had more than one shop or store in it.

"I can't have affairs with an employee who works here or the MegaCorps in general? Or is it just with this part of the New Eden colony?" She asked for clarification in case that part was also disallowed. She didn't want to ask too many questions and she stopped herself with those so that it wouldn't arouse too many suspicions."You don't have to worry about the whole affection thing, I can contain myself most of the time." She gave the man somewhat of a wink as though to suggest something.

Mr. Johnson. just looked at her, with well a bit of disgust and shock. And shook his head..Again he sounded like a manual in tone and temperment.

"Well, Ms. Dazz, you will know it is highly discouraged to have any intimate relationships with other Staff. Such fratinization can lead to disharomy in the Workplace within this Recruitment center or in the Corporations that sponser us. This can lead to low and inefficient productivity. So no, such is not allowed here, its fine if you socialize with workers. But only on designated Lunch hours and breaks, which are one hour lunches and two 30 minute breaks during the day."

He then paused and nodded to her about keeping to herself.

"Then there is no issue Ms. Dazz, we expect a level of Professionalism from our staff. Now if there is nothing else in here you wish to see, do you want to see what one of our Office workstations are like?"

Ixora

Date: 2009-10-16 23:06 EST
It took every fiber in her being not to retort towards the man in some sort of snide manner. It was her nature to retaliate and fight back rather than to act in more of a cordial manner. She tended to act in an amiable manner with those that she was trading with only to get a higher price off something. She had to keep in mind that she didn't want to do or say anything that might draw attention in on herself though.

"A relationship would not get in the way of me doin' my job efficiently. I don't let my personal life get involved with my work," she told the man and offered him an award winning smile. The woman wasn't trying to seem pretentious, but she offered him a smile that could give a man a cavity.

"I would love to see one of the work stations, you goin' to be showin' me what I'll be doin' or will I find that out tomorrow when I come on in?"

ChromeSamurai

Date: 2009-10-17 00:30 EST
He shook his head and replied..

"No I will show you what you will be doing when you come into work tomorrow, right now Ms. Dazz. If you will follow me please?"

A turn on his heel of his squeky shoes, and out of the Cafeteria they went. Through the hallway and back into the busy office area. Over to one of the corners in the south end of the office area. They came to a small, out of the way cubicle, not being used at the time. He had her sit down in the office chair, as Mr. Johnson showed Ixxy the devices.

"Here is the phone, with a wireless earpiece so you can take calls as you work on your Comp Terminal here. The Comp Terminal has a Virtual display or manual keys which are down here. If you so wish to use the manual function of the Terminal. Now of course the terminal will be programmed to indicate what your lunch hour and breaks are. Which will all be determined for you by tomorrow when you get here. The power button is the big green button on the left hand side there.

The terminal will also keep a track of how much time you work on it. When you are to take your lunch or breaks, just give a verbal command to the Comp to go on standby mode. When you are done for the day, give the command of Logoff. The comp will then shut itself down, I do hope you can type fast Ms. Dazz?"

-He paused then continued.- "Now if you need to get coffee or water, there is a smaller break room to the west of you. And there is a womens' bathroom to the northeast of you. Both will be marked by signs above the doorways. Is there anything else you need to know?"

Ixora

Date: 2009-10-17 01:51 EST
"Could you give me an idea of what I'll be talkin' to people about on the phone?" She had gotten a general basic idea of the telephone when they docked in another realm. She couldn't remember where, but she could recall that they had odd circular devices that they used to communicate back and forth. Her gaze shifted directly to the man as she sat down in the chair at the terminal.

"I'm afraid I don't quite understand how to operate the computers. I never had one." She figured this was truth enough for the man and that he might not get suspicious. "I'll need a better idea of how to operate it and what I'll be doin' with it if that's alright with you."

She made a mental note of the bathroom and the breakroom as he noted where they were.

He sighed and started to explain to her what kind of calls she would be making or taking. Mainly inquiries into what sort of jobs are offered, setting up appointments for Job recruitment from people outside the Center. To give basic information to the General Public, that kind of thing. Also that if there are any calls from any Local Newspapers of T.V. Stations, that those calls will be directed to Management. He showed her the buttons for that, and how that worked.

Mr. Johnson, must have spent at least 30 minutes showing and explaining how the Computer terminal worked. But he did go kind of fast, possibly a bit too fast in his demonstration.

Ixora

Ixora couldn't remember a whole lot from the night before and it was rare that she consumed glass after glass or rum until the point that she was clearly intoxicated. After she had left the office the day, she immediately began to drink. Rum was her way of getting rid of stress and calming her nerves. Being a pirate gave her a high tolerance for the alcohol so must have had an absurd amount of it. The night before was a blur to her and she could only hope that she hadn't done anything stupid or that she would regret. She assumed that Kuro would offer her the truth of the previous night while Zeo would probably make something up to get under her skin or just because he wanted to trick her. She awoke with the most painful of headaches. The Chief ended up waking her, a mug of coffee and something he called aspirin on hand for her. He had encouraged her to swallow the pills and drink the coffee and she forced it down at his encouragement despite the bitter taste it left in her mouth.

At least by the time she had reached the office the headache from her hang over had reduced to a dull throb. It was tolerable enough for her to be able to get through her first day on the job. Feet carried her towards the front desk in the Reception Lobby, a cheerful grin forced to her features. "I am here for my first day of work. My name is Ixa Dazz." She waited for the woman to assist her in checking in since she still had yet to receive her worker code and the name of exactly who it was that she was going to be working under. The woman told her to wait in one of the chairs, quickly getting to the point to get rid of Ixora. She was instructed to wait for her new employer. Her worker number would be given to her at that point.

She was sure of one thing. That the secretary was probably due to give her the code and she probably brushed things off and really slacked on her job. It was something that wasn't really hard to tell based on her attitude though she had thought people would be eager to get their tasks done in the MegaCorps based on what the Chief had told her.

The receptionist at the Front desk called Ixxy over, the woman's voice a bit snappy with Ixxy. After all, Ixxy was the new girl and the Receptionist coud smell it like a Shark smelling blood in the Water. But it was her job to give the new people their codes and Key cards. Sighing in a small amount of disgust she motioned for Ixxy to come over to the Time clock terminal next to the Reception desk. And would demonstrate to Ixxy, how it worked. But she wasn't very nice about it, or it seemed that way. There still had to be a level of Professionalism in the Company. All for the sake of getting higher up the Ladder.

Ixxy was truely in a Lions' Den, and she would learn fast that in this place, its Eat or get Eaten. Welcome to the world of the Corporations Ixa Dazz, its a whole new World here. Friends are few, as the saying goes, Keep your Friends close, but your Enemies closer. Learn this and you just might survive this ordeal. Thats the advice Kuro gave to Ixxy before she left for work "Keep your friends close, but your Enemies closer."

Ixora

Date: 2009-10-17 15:47 EST
She already knew that she wasn't going to like the secretary from the day before. The receptionist's attitude combined with the fact that Ixora was still suffering from her hangover, made the woman very intolerable to deal with. However, Ix offered the woman the sweetest of smiles and acted in as an amiable a manner as she possibly could. It was even more of a convenience that the woman had told her to go wait and then called out to her a mere minute later because the secretary had actually decided to do her job.

"And which blue sections will I be working in?" She asked the woman, uncertain as to whether her question on that matter would be answered. She didn't know if the woman would offer her a name and direct her where she was supposed to go or if she had to wait for someone to come and retrieve her.

The receptionist gave a roll of her eyes and then spoke to Ixxy in a rather snippy voice.."Look hun, I ain't paid to nursemaid you through this. Eiether get with the program or sink, I have better things to do. Look at the display, its very obvious what section you are in. Area Blue 3, that means Mr. Johnson is your office Manager. Now why don't you move along and go through the Blue door marked B-3. I have phones to awnser little girl." Her tone with Ixxy was very patronizing, the Recpetionist went back to her desk. Back to anwsering phones in a fake, polite tone.

Ixxy was not about to get anymore help from the Receptionist thats for sure. It was a first brutal taste of what the Corporate Life was going to be like for Ixxy.

Ixora

Date: 2009-10-18 15:29 EST
Being treated like she were some inferior codfish was not something that Ixxy took lightly to. She would have countered against the woman had the event taken place outside of the corporation, but she kept her temper to herself due to the requirement to maintain a low profile. A fictitious smirk was offered to the receptionist, flashing pearly whites her way.

Feet carried her down the hallway and up to Mr. Johnson's office, she paused in the door and leaned up against the frame. "Ready to get this show on the road, boss?" She was making an attempt to seem eager for the job and also worked an amiable twist into her words simultaneously.

Mr. Johnson gave a bit of a frown to Ixxy, at the informal way she addressed him. He cleared his throat..

"Ms. Dazz, it is the correct protocal to call me Mr. Johnson or Sir. Please do remember that while working here please?" He paused.."I do admire however your enthusiasum to working at our Company. So I will let that minor infraction slide, this time. Yes, I do believe you are ready to start, I will show you to your workstation. Your Supervisor is a Mrs. Tolford, a Dwarven woman, with black hair and green eyes. She will be three desks to your left down from you. Should you need any help don't hestitate to ask her."

He took Ixxy over to her small cubicle, maybe 6 feet and 6 feet, with 5 foot high thin aluminium walls painted grey. The open end faced out onto a sea of similiar cubicles all set into groups of four. Ixxy had three other cubicle mates, all women, two young Human woman. One white, one Latino, the other woman was an Elf lady, with long red hair. They each gave Ixxy a slight nod and smile, then back to work, typing away and awnsering phones.

Mr. Johnson bid Ixxy a good day and left Ixxy to face her first day on her own.

Ixora

Date: 2009-10-19 01:38 EST
"Sorry, Sir." She made a point to offer one of those winning grins for him as soon as he had finished talking. She offered a small nod towards the women around her as the man left her to her work.

"Hello, my name is Ixa Dazz." She acted as friendly as possible and offered the introduction for them as they each greeted her with a smile of their own though she didn't pay much attention to see how real or fictitious they might be. Since Mr. Johnson deserted her, she announced to the three. "Excuse me for a moment," she made the comment just loud enough for the group as she assumed it would be rude to walk away without saying so after she had already spoken.

Feet veered her off towards the dwarfish woman's desk. "Good morning, Mrs. Talford. My name is Ixa Dazz, I actually start today. I assume that I may have been mentioned to you?" She was being as polite as humanly possible. "I actually had a few questions. I was wondering if you would be the one I would talk to about scheduling lunch for my sister to come in and see me? I also wanted to ask what day I'll be getting paid on."

ChromeSamurai

The dwarven woman, with a few grey hairs in her pulled back into a bun black hair. Glasses on her tiny nose, gave a bright smile to Ixxy and grabbed her hand to shake it..

"Hello Deary, yes indeed I know who you are, be working in my section so glad to have you Ixa. Now yes I am the person you should speak to about any and all lunch schedules if a friend or family member comes on site to the Office complex. So there's no fuss about it, now, as to pay, you girls get paid once a week on Mondays. All paychecks are collected at the Reception Desk, at select times based on what section you are in. Since you are in Section 4, you will collect your check at 2pm. Now when would you like to schedule lunch with your sister deary?"

At least it seemed Mrs. Talford was a nice person that looked out for the girls of her section.

Ixora

Date: 2009-10-19 02:18 EST
"Think my sister will want to come in and see me on Mondays, she ain't got a whole lot of money." She nodded after offering up the explanation. Ixora's vocabulary wasn't the best, but she'd spent a great deal of her life out on the seas to excuse for that. "Think she'll want to come in around noon also if that's alright," one of those sugar coated grins was given for the dwarf.

The older Dwarf woman simply nodded and gave a smile, it seemed sincere enough.

"Very well dearly, that can be taken care of, now best get back to work. Don't need to get in trouble on the first day of work now would you? If you have anymore questions later on just let me know Ixa. Have a good day today, deary."

"Thank you, Mrs. Talford." And with that, the pirate returned to her cubicle. Rear was settled into the seat and she moved her ear piece to hook it into place. She immediately started working, remaining there until her lunch period or until someone chose to disrupt her and distract her from what she was doing. She assumed that gathering information was not something she should start doing right away because it might look to suspicious. Instead, she gave off the impression of working hard and would slowly build up the trust of those around her to see what information she could garner at that point.

After about two hours into Ixxy's work, Mr. Johnson came over to the workstation to see about how she was getting along. He simply observed for a few moment before speaking up, clearing his throat..

"Hello there Ms. Dazz, all working out I hope, no problems. I take it you have spoken to Mrs. Talford?." He then paused for a moment.."When you have the opportunity this afternoon, say sometime after your lunch hour which I am informed will be from one PM to two PM., I need you to take some files to the File Room. Mrs. Talford has them at her desk. You might as will have some practice in understanding how the filing system here works. To further your productivity."

He then awaited her response, calmly with his hands folded behind his back.

Ixora

Ixora had known the man hovered over her, but continued to work as she assumed that was all he was doing and that if he had something important to tell her then he would. Which she so happened to be right about.

"Of course, Mr. Johnson." She beamed at him. The man was at least acting in a better mood and had a more tolerable personality about him as he spoke to her. She took a brief pause from her work, gaze shifting to him. "Will I be dropping the files off with another person or do I need to take them somewhere specifically?" She queried, arching a slender brow.

Mr. Johnson cleared his throat again, as if to repeat himself to Ixxy.

"You pick up some files from Mrs. Talford, then take the files to the FileRoom, its at the North End of the Office area. Can't miss it, its a blue painted door, with the word Fileroom in big white letters on it. The Filing system is Alpha-Numeric order, as in they all go into a certain section of the Filing Stacks. We keep Hard Copy folders as will as Computer Files, incase of a system-wide Computer failure. And if there is nothing else you best get to it then. Have a good day Ms. Dazz."

He then walked away to another part of the Office area.

Ixora

Date: 2009-10-23 16:18 EST
Ixora ate lunch with one of the secretaries situated by her cubicle, one of the human women. The latino one. The woman had the gift of gab, quite literally. There was never a time when the woman didn't speak which made her almost certain that she would be the easiest of the workers around her level in the company to pry information out of. However, she was sure that at such a low position that what she learned from the latino would be minimal. The woman had said her name was Alida. Ix didn't much care for the name herself, but that didn't really matter.

After her break was over, she reported to the dwarf woman's desk as Mr. Johnson had instructed. The files were collected with few words of exchange before she headed for the file room. Feet carried her toward the door and she slid her card down the box fixed to the frame of the door that served as a reader for it.

She moved inside of the room and immediately headed towards where she was instructed to store the files, taking care of that as quickly as possible. She then allowed herself to search through a couple of things, making a mental note not to spend too much time in the room.

A few memos caught her eye though there was nothing that gave her any information that would be helpful to her. The ones that caught her attention over anything else were entitled: Project Genesis. Her gaze roamed over the brief notes though most of them talked about the transfer of files to somewhere else or having them taken to another's office. What caused her curiosity to perk was that the memos didn't necessarily show who the memos were to or from. She was also confused that the files were asked to be delivered directly to someone's office and that there personal secretary was not to look at or touch them.

She stowed the details in the back of her mind as something to reveal to Kendall when she got the chance. There wasn't much else that she garnered over the course of the next few days that might serve of some use at a later date. She did eat lunch with Adira, the woman had the same breaks as her so she often was stuck listening to the latino's pointless stories. Though that was also how Ixora discovered that there was a Halloween Party taking place at the office at the end of the month. It would be pertinent for her to attend since most of the higher ups would be there.

Kendall didn?t have a vehicle of her own yet. Fortunately, she wasn?t the only such person from RhyDin City who had to make the trip up to the New Eden site. The MegaCorps had set up a shuttle which ran from the city?s North gate up to the security perimeter once an hour, on the hour. Kendall stifled a cough into the sleeve of her new coat, hunched her shoulders further into its shelter while she waited. There was no shelter at the shuttle drop point and it was both cold and raining out.

Light gray eyes slid sideways. The woman standing next to her had a large umbrella held up to protect her immaculate hair-style and clothing. Kendall edged closer. She had just gotten half-under the frail shelter when the shuttle pulled up. The street rat?s mouth curled up in a cynical smile ? yet another victory for Murphy.

The shuttle driver eyed her carefully before letting her onto the vehicle. Her clothes, while no longer the near-rags she had been wearing, were not of the style or quality of anyone else on the shuttle. She had scrubbed her face before she came up to wait, but there was still black grease under her nails. Street accent stood thick in her voice as she explained to the man. ?M?sis works up there t? th? admin section. Goin? t? meet her for lunch.? The driver nodded reluctantly and waved her on to a seat.

It was an explanation Kendall had to give no less than five more times before she reached the Administration building, the security getting tighter and tighter at each check. At the final checkpoint she handed over the papers that identified her as Kendra Dazz, and they checked her name against the list of expected visitors. She held her breath for a moment, pale eyes flickering here and there around the foyer.

?You don?t look much like your sister.? The guard?s voice was somewhere between amused and suspicious. The familiar, mocking smile curled up ?Kendra?s? mouth before she answered.

?Half-sister, ain?t I? Same da. Why, you struck by m? awe-inspirin? good looks?? Kendall snickered as she asked the question. Her ragged copper hair was still dripping from the rain outside ? there had been a ?bot hovering behind her for the last few minutes, waiting for her to move so it could wipe up the slowly-growing puddle around her. She was scrawny at best; two weeks of semi-regular food weren?t enough to make up the difference of years of near-starvation. Grease rimmed her fingernails and her clothes were? well, functional was probably the best that could be said about them. She knew she didn?t look anything like her slick ?sister?.

The security guard snorted with laughter. ?Kid, you?re no prize. But your sister? She?s a looker, and nice, too. Treats us out here like real people instead of a hassle every morning. She single?? Now the guard?s real purpose came out. Kendall snickered again, answered bluntly.

?Ain?t got a clue. I can ask her for you, you really wanna know. Let you know on th? way out.? Her mocking smile was back, full-force. The guard hesitated, thought about it, then nodded. Another visitor approached the desk, and the guard shoved ?Kendra?s? papers back at her with a hasty point in the direction of ?Ixa?s? office ? or at least, the room that held her cubicle. Kendall jerked her chin up at the man in a gesture of thanks and started to amble through the hallways in the indicated direction, her light gray eyes flicking over everything she passed.

Ixora

Ixora was seated at her desk. The day was much more hectic than work in the office tended to be. With it being pay day as well as a Monday, everything was much more busy than usual. Things had time to pile up over the weekend and remain on hold. The communication device rang in incessantly to the point that she didn't even have time to breathe. She had to run files all over the place and fetch different things each time she managed to sit down and actually get the ear piece inserted, Mr. Johnson had another order for her.

She wasn't sure if it was because she was new blood or what, but the man seemed to enjoy seeing her run all over the place until the point that she just about collapsed. Alida had told her that the man would grow on her with time. She fought the urge to laugh over the matter and shoved the entire idea out of her head altogether.

She was more than grateful when the secretary at the front desk called her in. Despite the woman's irritated tone she was glad to hear that her sister was headed into the room she was in. She wasn't sure if a guest card had been gifted to Kendall or not for access into the room so she rose to her feet. She nodded towards the latino woman who had been taking lunch with her and told her that she wouldn't be able to do it since it was Monday.

Feet carried her towards the corridor that led to the large room with all of the cubicles and started down it until she caught a glimpse of the familiar face. "Hey, Ken. Ready to get somethin' to eat?" She inquired and gestured off in the direction of the cafeteria. "They have pretty good choices here, jus' about everythin'. What are you in the mood for?"

An indifferent shrug was Kendall?s answer to Ixora?s question. She followed it up with a curl of cynical smile. ?Ain?t matter a bit, long as it?s hot. I?m about froze.? At least her hair had finally stopped dripping onto the floor. ?Looks crazy busy in here. You gonna have time t? eat proper, Icky??

There ? the mocking touch of glee. She couldn?t resist it. As they filed through the cafeteria along with all the others who had lunch at the same time, her needling went on. ?You got a sweetie here already? Maybe that boss of yers? Or,? she broke off and deliberately widened her eyes, ?nah, that Davan guy you were tellin? me about. Maybe him?? A snicker while she loaded soup, bread, a slice of cake, a sandwich and a cup of coffee onto her tray. When time came to pay she turned the wide-eyed, expectant look from the cashier to ?Ixa? until ?Ixa? ran her employee card through the machine.

She was playing an annoying younger sister. Just Ixora?s luck that the role was so much fun; Kendall probably went overboard on the ?annoying? part just a bit. When they sat, however, the table she picked had them in a corner with their backs against the wall. The camera that covered that section of the room was above their heads ? which meant that if they leaned back just a bit, they were out of its field of view. No help for the audio recorders that were undoubtedly all over the place, but Kendall could only hope that Ixora had taken that into account.

As she dived into her food ? the lack of table manners stood out even more sharply here, in this cultured environment ? she set up a non-stop chatter. Mostly related to persuading ?Ixa? to lend ?Kendra? some money. Kendall also made obvious and obnoxious criticisms of the outfits, behavior, and looks of everybody who passed across their field-of-view.

If all went according to Kendall?s plan, the company would actually request that ?Ixa? meet her sister off-site ? where it would be much easier to evade the ever-present monitors. It was just too bad that Kendall hadn?t had a chance to mention this plan to Ixora ahead of time. Hopefully her ?sister? would figure it out.

"Get about an hour for lunch," she answered Kendall in response to the query. "Always have time to eat. Woman I tend to take lunch with, name's Alida. She really likes to gossip a lot. Sayin' how there's a Halloween party at the office. I asked Toby to go with me." She shrugged as she offered up information on the event.

She laughed off the bit about the sweetheart comment. "I ain't got anyone to rumble around with, no." She shrugged, "That don't mean I ain't lookin' at anyone though, especially that Davan man." Laughter escalated past her lips as she jested right along with Kendra.

Ixora went right along with just about all of her sister's antics. She complained about the work as she was pressed for money, telling her that Mr. Johnson had her all over the place and that she was just about exhausted from promoting the business through phone calls and recruiting new employee's for the New Eden MegaCorps. That and also that she had to run files all over the place and how tiring it was having to go through security check ins every morning and again on her way out.

She pointed out that it wouldn't hurt Kendra to make a nice comment in regards to another's appearance. She nagged at the younger woman about her reaction toward everyone and her comments and wasn't surprised if she were to be brushed off and receive more obnoxious remarks on the matter. Being as perceptive as she was eventually caught her to catch on to where her sister was going with her disposition and that it wasn't just for show, but to make it so that they were asked to go elsewhere.

By the time ?Kendra? left, after the hour allotted for ?Ixa?s? lunch, more than gossip and money had passed from hand to hand. Information ? the real currency of any operation like theirs ? was squirreled away in Kendall?s head. She bantered for several more minutes with the security guard in the foyer ? and her light-fingered ways paid off with the white rectangle of a key-card. She had also earned a request never to return to the Cafeteria for lunch with her ?sister?. Ixa had even been given extra time to have her lunch off-site on Mondays ? though it would be docked from her pay.

All in all, a productive first collection.

The week was slow for the most part and she did a quick scan for memos each time she made a visit to the file room. The only thing she managed to find at all as the week carried on was something in regards to shipping manifests for a Project Infinity. The details were vague and similarly to the Project Genesis memos, she couldn't tell who the memo was to or from. There was also another request to have the manifests delivered directly to someone's office.

Nothing else of importance really happened until Saturday, she made her way into the Market even an hour before Aramil had requested her to be there so that she had time to find the cafe they had coffee at. She didn't really want to recall the night just because it reminded her of the bitter taste of the dark colored drink. The sugar just hadn't cut it. Feet carried her inside and she ordered herself a glass of water and a bagel just so the person wouldn't complain for her sitting around and waiting.

She got curious glances from strangers due to the fact that she was wearing that tavern girl costume. She had to dress up for the Halloween part that Aramil was due to meet her for. The dress she wore had a black and tan bodice with lace trimming at the collar. Something she didn't think looked right on her and if she was sure that was the last time she would ever wear a dress again. She had no idea if Toby would end up at the office or not since she they hadn't discussed meeting up beforehand as well as the fact that she never told him where exactly the office was.

The table that her and Aramil had been seated at was the one that she took up a chair at. She decided waited around and stared outside of the window for his approach. She would wait until after he arrived before heading to board the shuttle to the office.

Sim

Ixora would soon find that Sim, or Aramil, as she knew him by, was already present in the little cafe. The changeling was good at hiding, no doubt strengthened by the ring he wore that allowed for a invisibility for a limited amount of time. Sim had been there for hours, actually. He was waiting the entire time, watching to see just how early she would arrive. He was pleasantly surprised when she turned up an hour ahead of time.

Deactivating the enchantment of his ring with a subtly whispered word, Sim stepped forward and brought a single, pale and slender digit down to tap lightly on Ixora's shoulder as he approached her from behind. Sim was in the guise of the elven man, with silver hair, green eyes, pale skin, and angled features. The only thing off seeming about the elf was that he was nearing (if not passing) six feet in height. Though in Rhy'Din, that wasn't saying much.

"Ixora, I'm surprised to see you hear so early." Said Sim as he lowered his hand from her shoulder. When Ixora would look at him, she'd see him fully decked out in a very authentic pirate costume. It had a navy blue tricorne hat that was weathered and faded, along with a matching frock coat that had seen better days. Beneath the coat he wore a ruffled, white poet's shirt and a tan leather jerkin. On his legs were cotton breeches tucked into high leather boots. His shoulders were draped with baldrics, one holding a cutlass (which was under the effects of an illusion to appear fake) and the other holding a flintlock pistol (which was under a similar enchantment as the cutlass). There was even a dagger tucked into his boot. His hair was tied back and pulled to rest over the high collar of his coat.

She should have suspected that Aramil would appear out of nowhere. She still had no idea how he did it and it bothered her partly since she could never be sure how long he had been eavesdropping on her. It wasn't that she was completely private and reclusive, but that he sat there and watched her while she was blissfully unaware.

"I wanted to be here when you got here. Have you been followin' me around?" She quirked a brow, completely suspicious of the man. "How long have you been around?" She folded her arms across her chest as she stared him down.

She scrutinized him carefully and absorbed the costume. She hadn't expected it to be so well put together. "I am impressed," she told him and she really was. Her tone suggested as much as well. If the weapons didn't look unrealistic and it was her first time meeting Aramil at all then she would have guessed him for a pirate actually. And that said much considering that she was one herself. While she didn't wear the same code of dress as pirates, the rest of her crew did.

"You goin' to order anythin'?" She inquired and tore a piece of the bagel off which she placed in her mouth and began to devour.

Sim

"No. I haven't been following you around. Not today." Sim replied with a small shake of his head. "I've been here for about three hours now." The changeling continued while stepping around her to take a seat in the adjacent chair. His leg was lifted to prop up on the opposing knee while he settled in. At her compliment (for he took it as such), Sim grinned and tipped his hat up. "Told you I had a costume already, didn't I?"

Then at her query, the changeling lifted his hand, which (unsurprisingly) held a disposable cup of coffee. The strong scent of the brew was intensely muddled down by the smell of sugar and other artificial sweeteners, which had the normally dark drink a pale, creamy color. It was lifted for a sip, which he took down with a contented sigh. He loved his overly sweetened coffee.

"You don't look half bad yourself, Ixora. The dress suits you." He winked. "Very misleading, too." Sim leaned back in his seat, the propped up foot bouncing idly as he regarded her. "Now then. We just go to the party after this, don't we? Mingle, make idle conversation, and that's it?"

Ixora

"Not today?" She repeated, a slender brow piqued with the question and then she shook the thought away. She would rather not know when she had been followed before. It made her feel less invaded in regards to the matter.

She nodded her head slowly to the query about the costume. "You did, I wasn't expectin' it to be so close to the real thing."

"Misleadin'? What's that supposed to mean? How's it misleadin'?" That brow shot up again as she peered at him suspiciously. There was more than one reason he could have made the comment though she was already sure as to the cause behind it. She assumed herself that it would divert all attention from the possibility of her having been a pirate. However, she wasn't sure if he had made the remark due to her looking lady like for a change or for the reason being that it distracted from her intolerable personality. Perhaps she was reading too much into what was probably meant to be a compliment of his own.

"Drink coffee and then go catch the shuttle," she stated for him.
