Some of you may know this... some not. If I'm overstating something, I apologize.
Robert's story with Roach, that whole SL arc, is loosely based on the feel and movement from Neil Gaiman's American Gods. Roach's player and I often think how strange it was that there was never a point where the story was in New Orleans, being that it is such a strange city with a vibe ripe for the story Gaiman told. So if you thought the story we were writing had this rich, abstract feeling to it that we weren't pinning all the details down on, you'd be right. The book is more about what belief does, as opposed to making a story with understandable spiritual mechanics. We took that and ran with it.
One detail I sometimes feel could have been added is the mention of the armadillo. That seems kinda weird to type, and maybe a little random of a thing to read. If you haven't been to the south (where American Gods concludes) and not seen an armadillo then imagine it to be this sort of... prehistoric, strange creature. There is the feeling that you're dealing with a little dinosaur when you encounter them up close. Seeing them on the side of the road, or the strange debris of their skeletons, always makes me think of Gaiman's book. There's a good number of miles they put on their cars, passing by the skeletons of the armadillos like everyone in the South does.
I like to take pictures, sometimes I wander around to do that. The other day I came upon this old house and in the driveway was a scattered armadillo skeleton. It reminded me of a plate being broken. Here's the pic I took below.
Just sharing a little story and some inspiration. Funny how the things we write can do that to us.
