Vitus, half-demon, son of Arioch. He was the most bloodthirsty of all Knights of Asmodeus. But for some reason his bloodlust waned during quiet evening hours, when he had time to sit down and reflect. Rhaine didn't even notice when they became close friends. Perhaps during clashes with soldiers of Tyrgoth, when they had to rely on each other's skill to survive? Or during long, exhausting tracking runs? Vitus was the only Knight who took the first female warrior in the army seriously from very beginning. Eventually he found himself talking to the feline-like being the incarnation turned her into. Talking about things he seemed reluctant to discuss with other Knights.
The half-insane troops of Kir'Jolith were hardly the easiest opponents... However this war was a necessary one. "Trimming" the Kir'Jolithians was in the long run a very good step to maintain power level for Darkness. And gather forces for attack.
More and more often Vitus called her "little sister". They were too alike, the half-demon and the life mage.
Once, after a stressful raid, they sat in Knight Lodge, discussing possible tactics for the next day. Yet something was weighing on half-demon warrior. "Rhaine, I was contacted by my father. He said... he ordered to kill you." Vitus spoke suddenly. "He never abandons hope of regaining me as his soldier. Our nature, our mutation is similar. In a way you are my sister in destiny, you have equal potential - and Arioch would not tolerate any competition to his pawn of a son."
For a while she went silent. "Not even trying to draw me to his cause?"
"No. My blood is what binds me... and you are free".
His dark purple eyes opened in sudden understanding. "I will not kill my sister. And blood binding can work both ways..."
Dark steel of knight's dagger reflected the fire in the fireplace...
