Tara had pinned her feelings down so perfectly last night that Jewell still heard the words vibrating through her head in the afternoon:
Without her...I feel dark...I need her..

That dark feeling crept over her as she wandered the woods, her steps aimless as she kept grey eyes closed to the beauty that surrounded her. She was listening, constantly listening for a clue, a sign, a hint.

Their Pix was missing.

She had refused to admit it to Tara or herself last night but she wasn't so optimistic about Amthy being hidden away at some day spa or just too busy with school work to visit with them. Miles hadn't seen a hint of green hair, their weekly tea party had been nymph-free, and Ayreg said it had been over two weeks since he last saw her.

Jewell felt sick to her stomach.

She had not waited for Chris to return with his truck so they could all go a-Pix-hunting together. A truck could not go where her light feet or wings could take her. She spent the night, guided by moonlight and stars, combing the woods and fields of RhyDin like a haunt.

The howling of wolves plagued her search and she returned to the Inn in the morning, empty handed and distraught. The flowers had not seen the Pix, had not been caressed by her gentle touch and tied up in tiaras for that adorable green hair. She could not understand the breeze that blew through the trees and the water knew nothing of a girl tied to an element other then itself.

Brian had dried her off, soaked as she was with the dew and rain of dawn, before she had set out again. Mid-afternoon brought rain and Jewell welcomed it with open arms, laying in a field to let it soak her through still listening for a hint of Amthy on the howling wind that struck the water against her face.
