Nothing like a beach party to get the family together. It was true. Your brothers and sisters and mothers and fathers all lead busy lives, and rarely do they ever free up for times of important bonding. So very tragic. But try, and you will have yourself a few get-togethers that should still rate in at more than acceptable.

It was late ? going on 10:00 P.M. ? when the rowdy locale of Silica Cottage decided it was time to relocate the party; it was time to put the youngsters to bed.

?Enough of you f*cks and c*nts drinking all my hooch and laying all over my furniture,? Techichi scolded while wearing a drunkard's plastered smile, ?Let's move to this ? what ? what's it called? In Hawaii? Corea??

? ? Luau,? she replied some time after from the porch outside the cottage. Yes, that had been the word.

? ? Luau,? Tetch repeated, ?Let's move this luau outside. It's time for the kids to go to bed, and I don't want my grandchildren hearing any more of your vulgarities,? panning the room with her pointer finger ? whose other fingers were wrapping a wine bottle ? she drunkenly dared anyone to remain behind while the party moved on, or else be branded a p*ssy.

?Oh Dear,? Lilith pouted out a plump lower lip, ?She's moved onto her wine. It is the absolute worst when she has moved onto he wine,? Lilith 'oh-dear' and 'oh my'd' on over to her to try and pull the bottle from her by first extending her reach behind her, but a drunken Ichi was a grabby Ichi. ?Eeee!!?

Meanwhile over on the sofa, a heavily-liquored Dagger Sasc began showing those tell-tale signs of too much to drink with drool dripping from his mouth, ?I told you I could outdrink you,? Aurast said.

?You sure did, buddy,? Seirichi said in true party companion code.

While he continued to make sure she understood that he had outdrank her, always been there for her, and wasn't a total failure, Seiri was slowly relocating him to the guest bedroom on the opposite end from where the children were.

She got him to that beautifully made and yet undefined bed, lacking any one personality, but enough of one to be so very inviting, just like a guest room should. A few more inches (or drinks) and Aurast would have gone over the deep end, and Techichi would have beat him viciously for throwing up anywhere in her house, after he'd cleaned it up, of course.

?Thank you,? Aurast whispered, another tell-tale sign that he had been done for the night. His thanks of course were to Seiri, who had understood all this. She grinned to him, fixing his baseball-hat hair and tucking him in; the peaceful thing he was. He was a real sweetie, and she knew it. Sometimes all you wanted after you've had too much to drink was a quiet bed to sleep in. And so with a flicking of the lamp off, Seiri backed out of the room, pulling the door to a close.

At around that same time, Dyarhk had stepped out of the children's room. The two noticed one another and met up to update one another on the events of the night thus far that the other had missed.

?How is everyone?? Seiri asked quietly, a sleeping Aurast to not disturb and potential youngsters in the room Dyarhk was from that may have been trying to sleep as well.

?Fine, but not asleep yet,? he said, ?Karai has an unlimited source of power. I don't see anyone getting to sleep as long as he's still up. But it's fine ? we're having fun,? Dyarhk admitted happily, to which Seiri laid her forehead against him in thanks.

?You can stay locked up in there on sitter detail for that long and still call it fun?? her head shook delicately against him, ?How do you do it?? she gave a quiet chuckle.

?You there!? Tetch bellowed across her living room to Dyarhk.

?What?? he replied, and she looked very insulted by that. But if you wanted to know a secret, she would have acted insulted no matter what he said.

?Watch your f*cking tongue! Is that how you talk to an older woman? You're coming with us. You're going to take a break from that sh*t. It's her turn to watch her own damn kids for a change,? Tetch couldn't really decide which of them she wanted to yell at, so she alternated. ?You always brag about those big muscles, so I wanna see how well they help you out under the limbo stick ? everyone will ? and wipeouts will be paid for in blood and liquor. Lilith, let's go,? was Tetch's disguised way of asking for help out the door. She was dependent on a shoulder to lean on at this point.

Seiri only shrugged, and that shrug turned into an uncaring stretch of her arms up to the rafters and her shirt end up to her bellybutton. ?That's fine,? even managing a yawn. She was years and then some experienced enough to deal with her mother ? that, and the fact that this was not the grueling work she often complained it to be.

?That's not a bad idea, actually. With a little moderating and rule-enforcing I might be able to keep the beach on the beach and the ocean in the ocean,? Dyarhk said, nodding confidently while he watched Tetch heading on her way out with the bulk of the party, which consisted of a few such names as: Chris Andan, Rijn Savorenius, Mage, Havelast and Queen of Adenna, Nayon.

?Yeah, you deal with her,? Seiri said, issuing him a spank to send him on his way. But the very drunken host had not yet ended her horrific and unrestrained every thought from vocalization. On her loveseat ? she declared with her all-ruling pointer finger ? that the woman seated there would be coming with them as well.

?You. Big t*ts. You think you got the best pair in the house or something?? Tetch struck a leaning pose, waiting for the retort that would cause her to bite her head off.

?Hm?? Lea replied pure and honestly, ?Of course, I know that we are the best pair here,? she said, taking hold of the man's arm ? Declan ? who sat next to her, ?But I would not ask that you compare us with any of you. We are far too different.?

Tetch clenched her teeth before tossing her wine bottle at her, which Dyarhk stealthily caught and sat out of the way on his way over to the door. ?You've got some big balls to go with those t*ts. But how much of it is just talk? Come on. You're not staying here. Out,? she thumbed to the more broken than cracked screen door, ?No woman with a chest that large is staying indoors this late at night when there's a party, booze, a firepit, games and a beach outside. Come on,? again, she waved her up, and she arose ? and so did Declan ? something she did not agree with at all.

?NO. YOU stay here. I don't like you. I don't like your face,? Tetch said with glaring eyes and a scowl. Declan just sleeked back his hair coolly,

?I go where she goes; that's kind of how it is. Huge story behind it,? he said calmly.

?I guess the party's on hold then until I kick your a*s,? Tetch stood up on her own now; she didn't need Lilith's assistance when something sobered her up like this had; even the talkative party grew quiet with the level of severity that had come over the cabin.

?Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa, Tetch, Tetch, listen to me,? Dyarhk said, stepping in-front of her and attempting to restrain him. She fought him, but not to the extend that she could have. Some mortals she very consciously held back on ? because they were like family members ? and he was one of those.

?Let me go, you ape!? Tetch struggled to wrestle free, but it looked like she was being pacified for the time-being ? time enough for Lea to have come to some sort of understanding.

?Declan,? she said, turning to him. ?I'll just go with them for a little while. I will miss you, and you will miss me. It should be a fun experience!? she said happily.

His red eyes questioned the sincerity of hers but ultimately closed in a resigning and defeated sort of deep breath, ?Very well,? He fell back to his couch and put up one of his fancy shoes on the coffee table.

?Marvelous!? Lea clapped her hands together, happy that he had agreed.

?Hmph,? Tetch began, ?Whatever. The name of the game is: whoever gives out the most shots from their cleavage wins! Let's go!? she said, heading for Lilith and the door while Dyarhk helped lend Lea a hand to take her to the door as well.

?Bye, Declan!? she waved to him, and wouldn't have minded if he had a camera to capture this sight of her going off to a new experience ? as if she were bungee jumping or something. Declan waved very half-heartedly.

?We shouldn't be gone for very long,? Dyarhk comforted back over his shoulder, seeing Lea through the door and ? at that point ? breaking off to walk down to the beach with Corea, who was dressed very beachy in a bathing suit and sarong and accompanying romance novel in hand.

That left Aurast in the house sleeping, and Seirichi and Declan, who soon looked at each other.

It was obvious that the tiff with her mom was on both their minds the more the silence lingered between them; but it was Seiri who had to speak up about his performance. ?Nice,? she said in a very unimpressed delivery.

?Don't you have rugrats to take care of?? he curved one eyebrow over one crimson eye. Again, she was unimpressed, but thinking on it for a moment longer, he was right. There were unattended children in that room, and breakable things!

?Um... I'll be right back,? she said, going into the room where shortly after her parental voice could be heard pulling rank and vanquishing all mischievous activity.

At long last, there was some sort of peace to be had. The living room was quiet, the children playing just in the room across the den were behind a closed door, and the incapacitated Dagger Sasc was sleeping off a very irresponsible over-intoxication. Farther off, the gaming from the beach could be heard, and the few tiki torches lit out there were faintly visible from the window.

He reared his head back and black bangs danced where they would. His chest inflated and deflated at a slow pace ? a relaxed pace. Finally he said, ?This is why I prefer living around mortals,? his eyes open to the overhead fan soon closed relaxedly again ? until a woman's voice spoke up from the screen door.

?Oh I don't know, things can be exciting with the meaner guys,? she said, peeking in with a head full of beautiful, Cimmerian curls. He looked her up and down and took note of her dark skin ? and a very apparent threat level ? but he kept his boot heel up on the coffee table, opting instead to spread his arms across the back of the loveseat while his irritated stare wore on at her.

She laughed a single laugh, ?Jeez, I think I've gotten friendlier looks from my biggest haters,? she said, holding her hands up as if to say she was unarmed and declared herself an ally. ?My name's Mia. I'm here for Seiri. Is she in the back?? That was when the door to the children's room opened and answered her question.

?The hell are you doing here?? she hushed, ?I said after midnight.?

?I don't know if you looked down recently, but you're not a baby girl anymore, Sei,? Mia said, going over to her with her sandals in one hand and an unopened bottle of red in the other ? which she held up to explain her surprising appearance. ?You can see whoever you want to whenever. Only one pair of hands tans that hide now,? she said, talking some real game and laying it down with some real lusty tone. The women grabbed each other's waists.

?I was wrong,? Declan chimed in before things could get any further, ?Being alone is best,? looking out the window away from the pair like he had been forced to ? like they had made him look away from their unashamed and boastful display.

Of course, this only fanned Mia's flames of interest. A smile came on plush, ruby-red lips, and she checked with Seiri in a secret conference of the eyes before turning that lusty tone and sexy swagger onto Declan. ?Sounds like Tall, Thin, and Red-Eyed doesn't know what he's missing. What do you think, Sei? It's only one bottle of wine, but he's good-looking enough,? she teased.

Seiri copied her game ? a game that she was born to play ? and chose to go a more reserved sort of flirt for herself and give her longer brown hair a few clutches for a very seductive toss, ?But that would mean confirming threesomes happen, wouldn't it?? and then she laughed, ? ? which they don't. Only in those cheesy sex novels. Their sales are proof. Lot of fans of fantasy things out there,? Seiri fixed her hair now. The jungle look suited her, but the joke was over now.

?So we going ? or what?? Mia asked, coming down on the fun of their brief little game. Seiri seemed happy enough that she wasn't busy. She reached out to Mia's very well-displayed cleavage that was mushed together by a tied, pink shirt also exposing her midriff.

?Let me grab my beach towel. We can sneak around to the other end of the beach on further down, and god help the walkers,? Seiri said, going to retrieve the thing from the tiny kitchen counter.

Mia grinned, ? ? Or maybe they'll be thanking god.?

But a very crucial part of this plan did not work, as Declan had realized, leaning over the couch now to regard the two. ?You are aware of the room full of unchaperoned children? Or is mothering so far down on the list right now...? a glare was cast that his attention had been bought in tandem with his anger. But Seiri just beamed.

?They'll be fine,? she said so happily, walking over and grabbing Mia's arm and walking her to the door. ?I'm sure you can put them to bed. Do you know any nursery rhymes? Nothing knocks them out as good as a long, boring story,? Seiri peace-signed him ? as did Mia ? and the two exited the house with all of the trimmings of a squeaky screen door and creaky porch planks detailing their departure.

Declan had stood in the excitement of the abandoning of the children's welfare into his hands. It was a stupefying expression brought on by a stupefying situation ? one that he was still in disbelief of ? but he wasn't letting their responsibility slip quite through his fingers like it normally would have. A stare was made over to the door.

He sighed; he sighed hard.

Inside of the bedroom, hell run rampant. Young little Marissa ? never you mind the quality of her drawing ? was creating artwork out of the bedroom walls with a very diverse (and thick) layer of crayon. Kellie had torn apart the bed and fashioned quite the elaborate tent, or fort, or castle keep depending on your definition of the misuse of bed linens. And it was a castle that was regularly under siege by the gallivanting Karaichi, wrecking her efforts just for her to rebuild again and then be ?sacked? again when she had risen again her pride and fruits of her labors.

It was a calamity. The late hour and there might as well have been a huge, voracious bonfire dancing just as lively as these kids, and not an adult in sight ? not save for one ? and he did not waste time with them.

?Hey! HEY!? Declan rose his voice, and getting the three's attention had been achieved. ?Listen up,? he began.

?Who are you?? Marissa asked with her crayons in her hands while sitting down there by the wall.

?I'm ? ?

? ? Yeah, who are you?? Karaichi backed up his sister, coming to the center of the room while Kellie dug her way out of her collapsed fort upon her.

?I was saying... I'm ? ?

? ? Where's my mommy?? Marissa asked him now. The boredom with her first question already very evident, and it was time to move on ? it was always time to move on. It was the next question, and nothing else!

?Do you have any snacks? We ate all ours already,? Karaichi said, very saddened by this. He referenced with his toilet paper tube sword the various lunch snack wrappings that littered the floor. It was a sad sight to behold for the little sugar-craving night owls.

?No. There's nothing, your mother included. Nobody's here but us ? ? Declan again tried to get some form of word out to the rambunctious bunch, but Karaichi had other plans, attempting to run past him.

?Sweet! Let's build the fort in the living room, Kellie!? Karaichi said enthusiastically, but he was grabbed by the top of his head in a single hand's clutches by the taller adult he tried to blaze past.

?We're not going in the living room. We're not putting up any forts. You're going to bed. All of you,? Declan said ? very seriously ? pulling Karaichi back and yanking him back over towards his sisters. Instead of crying, they yielded and listened as if this were no unusual display of aggression taken with them.

?Are you going to put us to bed, Mister?? Kellie asked innocently, emerging from the debris of bedspread, pillow and grandmother's quilt.

?That is exactly what I am going to do,? Declan narrowed his eyes.

Over the course of his irrefutable word, the three children being laid to bed and tucked in were slowly coming to the realization that they were not at all tired yet. They first thought that they might be able to go to bed, and then they knew this wasn't possible after a trial run of closed eyes. Next, they thought that their strange and sudden new nanny might read their minds so they wouldn't have to say it ? that they usually went to sleep with a good bedtime story.

?There,? Declan said, reaching for the light. ?Go to sleep. I'm right outside. I don't want to see anybody come out unless it is a life and death emergency,? he explained.

?Um, Mister?? Kellie spoke up, and she would be the one to speak up regarding this, too. ?I can't go to bed without a bedtime story.?

Declan stared at her as if her life was on trial, but her sister chimed in as well.

?Me neither,? Marissa said.

Karaichi was a bit older, and as such did not want to admit to the same needs as his younger sisters, but there fiddling with a loose thread on his blanket he did agree. ?Do you know any stories?? he asked, looking away from his fiddling to the man.

Unable to leave, close the door, and resume guarding them outside as painlessly as possible ? Declan saw no other way around this than to comply to their request. But first he had to consider Karaichi's question.

?Do I know any bedtime stories?? he repeated, coming over to Karaichi's bedside, passing it, and ultimately sitting on the side of Kellie's bed for the remainder of his pondering. ?Well I do know one... but I can only promise to tell it to you if you all go to sleep right after,? he proposed, looking between the three. They all nodded.

?Good,? Declan said, swinging one leg up on the side of Kellie's bed and thinking where to start. ?This story happened a long time ago. So long ago, that it actually occurred before the very first moment ? ever. Now, what's funny about all time before the very first moment, is that it actually takes place in the future,? Declan explained.

?Woooow,? Kellie wowed, quite literally.

?How does that work?? Karaichi asked.

?I forgot to mention: no questions at all during the story. Button up now,? Declan said, and Karaichi was very quick to look surprised and offended at the same time. But like any good boy, he pouted it out.

?Now, way back in time before the very first moment, there was a man who was walking on the grassy hill of the largest planet in the universe ? which was also the first planet in the universe. It was said to be the site of all life, some believed, as the limbs of its magnificent trees were said to bud all of the other planets and drop them out into the sky they climbed all the way up to when they were ready. Well... this man was quite bored,?

?Gee! I sure am bored!? Declan said, stretching his arms up to the skies and then down again. The vast field ahead of him, so lush and beautiful, but it was nothing he hadn't seen already, really. ?I wish there was something new to see; somewhere I haven't been.?

?Was he really done seeing all there was to see on the largest planet in the universe?? Kellie asked in disbelief.

?Normally I would have killed a man for disobeying such a recently given command,? Declan explained deadpanned, ?But I will let it go. The young man could not age, as was understandable with all those who were able to find the means to walk upon the mother planet, and because of this he had much time to explore all that she had to offer,?

?Those forests over yonder are tall and eerie with their immortal darkness and choir-like winds, but that is all. And the great falls that create the mist that become the clouds are only very wet, and I am not in the mood to swim,? Declan sorrowfully explained to himself, just cause. ?I never knew how lonely it was until I had seen everything.?

?And that was when a stranger arrived, projecting his deep voice over the field to the young man, and telling him he could show him somewhere he hadn't been,?

?I can show you somewhere you haven't been,? a man's voice said.

Declan looked over to where the voice had been coming from, and to his surprise, all that he saw was a red fox sitting upright, but facing him.

?Who is there?? Declan called, but there was no answer. Only a breeze blew in response, and more silent moments filled the air afterward. But when his head began to stray from the fox ? that was when the voice came back across the hill.

?Me. I am here,? he said.

Declan looked back at the fox in time enough to see that it was where the voice had been coming from. Coolly, he walked over to it and then stopped to assess it and whatever magic it was using. ?How are you talking??

The fox stared at him, tilting its head like an animal might, but not sounding like it should ? not at all. ?I can talk no matter what I look like. I just happen to look like a fox right now,? it said.

?What did you mean? How can you show me a place I haven't been when I have seen everything there is?? Declan asked.

?Oh, I am sure you have not been here. Come on,? the fox said, getting up and shaking like a dog. ?I will take you there.?

?The young man seemed unsure about the fox. He had shown up out of nowhere, and promised such a bold claim, he could hardly resist the offer. So he agreed to go with him,? Declan explained to the children.

?Okay, but what do I call you?? he asked.

The fox looked at him curiously, ?I do not have any set name. You may call me whatever you like.?

?Very well. You say that you do not always look like this, but I have not seen you as anything else, so I will call you Fox,? Declan decreed.

?Very well,? Fox said.

?And the two embarked off on their journey together across the planet to get where the young man had never been before. First they passed around the falls, and the fox had gotten ahead of him while leading the way, and the young man did not see him again until he had taken the form of a beautiful young woman bathing in the waters that the falls poured into,?

?Keep up!? Fox said, ?I will grow old and wrinkled at the pace you're going,? Fox teased, collecting her long gokden hair at the back of her neck and draining the water from it.

Declan had been marching through the gunky mud beside the river, and the sight of this only startled him for the moment.

?Just keep going. I've already seen these falls before?? he said.

?They next went through the dark forests that birthed the planets I told you about. It was a long forest, and again Fox got ahead of him. When he next caught up with Fox, he was in the form of a young girl this time, about your age,? Declan pointed to Kellie, ?and like you, she was all full of energy,?

?Come on! You're too slow! Hurry up!? Fox nagged.

?Then stop going on so far ahead,? Declan complained, ?I've already seen this forest, too.?

?So they came to a cave next, and Fox went on inside. The young man followed after, but he had again lost track of his escort. He next saw Fox in the form of a bat, hanging from the cave ceiling and stretching his mighty wings,?

?We'll be there soon, real soon,? Fox said, enthusiastically; looking up at Declan upside-down.

?Well I hope so, because I've already seen this cave before,? Declan answered, feeling out the walls of the cave because it was so pitch dark inside. But eventually, he worked his way out.

?They went all over the planet, those two, and everywhere they went, Fox showed up as something different, and the man told him he had been everywhere that they'd gone. They went to the silver ocean, and he said he'd been there, and they went to the frozen desert, and he said he'd been there. But Fox still insisted there was a place he had not been. Well...one of their destinations had taken them to the tall, whistling mountain that overlooked even the great trees,?

?Fox! Fox, where are you!?? Declan shouted, walking against the force of the winds with some great effort. His eyes were squinted tight, and his arms crossed out in-front of them to make some semblance of a shield in order to just walk forward.

?We're nearly there,? Fox answered, now as a mountain goat. ?Follow me,? he said, as usual, way ahead of him. Declan was angry, but he had also come too far to not see this through tot he end. He walked against the now snowstorm that layered the narrow cliff faces of the unpaved mountainside near its peak, where a tiny cave beckoned him, and he went through.

?When he came out the other side, the storm had stopped. It didn't snow on that side of the mountain, because one side produced good weather, and the other bad weather, and dispersed these two energies out to the rest of the world to give it balance. The form Fox had taken this time was one just like the man's, except he had blonde hair instead of black. All that remained now was Fox's explanation, because the man had already seen this mountain, just like everything else,?

?See,? Declan explained, ?I've been to this mountain, too. I've been to those waterfalls and I've been through that forest. I've been to the silver ocean. I've been to the frozen desert. I've been in that cave, and been on-top of this mountain. I've been everywhere you've taken me! So you were wrong. There is not a place that I haven't been.?

Fox shook his head, walked up to him, and placed his hand on his shoulder to walk him to the ledge on the other side of this small cave that overlooked the world that received the good weather from this side of the mountain. True, it was beautiful ? it was more than beautiful. Not a sight existed like it, and not a finer vantage point could behold it, truly.

?You're wrong,? he said, ?You've been to all of these places, but one place you haven't been, is with a friend.?

"Awww."
"Ew."
"Awwww," they all said.

?And those words shocked him to the core. Fox was right all along! All of these places that he had walked to, he had walked alone. Following Fox, talking to him, getting confused by him, and even getting mad at him were all many, many times more wonderful than seeing any of the beautiful places on the mother planet by hisself. So he smiled to Fox, placed his hand on his shoulder, and that was the day they became friends. And after that they went on all sorts of adventures all across space and time, and are still out there somewhere and good friends still to this day. The End,? Declan said.

?I liked that,? Kellie said with a tired smile.

?Nobody even got killed,? Karaichi complained.

?Well it's not too late to change that if you don't go to sleep right now,? Declan threatened, and Karaichi very quickly changed his level of fatigue forcibly.

?Mister? That place sure sounded pretty,? Marissa said sleepily.

Declan had already started on his way to the door when she had called out to him. He even thought about keeping going, too. But he stopped for her, ?Oh it is. I've been there.?
