Charlotte had been very happy when Cassie suggested they get a house together, and wanted to begin searching for one as soon as possible since she really didn?t have any place to stay other than the inn.
It was rather cramped already; staying in Lucy?s room to keep an eye on her. On more than one occasion, she found herself sleeping in the chair beside the bed. Plus, there was Eliza Kitty: the ever-growing Moor Cat who didn?t do anything but lay at the end of Lucy?s bed. Charlotte thought, perhaps, the reason for Eliza?s moping around was because she missed Jean. Charlotte did too.
But she didn?t mind too much. Charlotte would be the first to admit she was lonely. That was only natural. She couldn?t get rid of the overwhelming guilty feeling of actually finding herself attracted to someone. She may not be married anymore, but it takes a while to disentangle your heart from someone you know and love. At least, for her anyways. Charlotte had been asked out on a date, and after a bit of consideration, she thought she?d give it a try.
The next day, Charlotte continued to feel more and more guilty. All she wanted was to be happy! Brian seemed happy. So she figured she?d give it a whirl. It doesn?t work like that. Charlotte was nearly ready to go explain to the man (well, in comparison to Charlotte, he really was just a boy) that she just couldn?t go on the date. Sure, she liked talking to him, but she just wasn?t ready for something. Yet, anyways. She?d work up the nerve to tell him later. Luckily, later that night someone tipped Charlotte off that whats-his-face was seemingly uninterested now. Her initial reaction? Relief. At least she didn?t have to tell him she didn?t want to go on the date.
Charlotte let up with Cassie later on in the day to go looking for a house. I don?t think either of them counted on finding one the first day, but that?s the beauty of Rhy?Din. They found a spacious two story house with a finished basement. It was nestled on outskirts of West End and even had a backyard. Imagine that. Charlotte and Cassie fell in love with the place instantly.
It was an older house, painted white and had black shutters around every window. The yard was decently proportioned; covered in luscious green grass, parted in the middle by the pathway that led to the front door. Upon entering the house, you?ll find yourself in a cozy little foyer with a hardwood floor. The foyer ran the width of the house, basically splitting it in two. To the left is the living room; complete with built-in bookshelves along one wall and a fireplace on the other. A large picture window centered on the front wall, decorated with white drapes to allow in as much light as possible. Charlotte did so hate white, so those would definitely come down.
Moving on through a doorless archway on the right side of the living room, you?d find yourself in the spacious kitchen. While the house certainly had that old time appeal, the kitchen was flourishing with every modernized appliance you could think of. An L bend of marbled counters lines two walls, which also sported the refrigerator, sink, stove, and dishwasher. Above the counters and below, were the cupboards and drawers, all finely polished in a cherry wood finish. There was also something Charlotte found highly amusing, but more so for Cassie?s sake. There was a marbled island counter. Perfect, right? Charlotte teased Cassie until she blushed, though?of course it was an inside joke. Moving on. To the left of the kitchen was a little cove where one could find the washer and dryer.
Now, on the right side of the foyer were the stairs that led to the bedrooms, the door that led to the basement, and then beyond that was the dining room. It was directly across the hall from the kitchen, also through a doorless archway. It was completely barren, save for two large windows on the south wall. To the left of the dining room was the half bath and large half wall mirror above the wide sink and counter.
The upstairs consisted of three bedrooms, a full bath and a small study off of the master bed. Charlotte figured she?d just turn the small study into a nursery so she could be as close as possible to baby Ava when she arrived. The master bed was surprisingly spacious, with two smaller windows on the west wall and a larger picture window on the south.
Down the hall were two identically proportioned bedrooms with walk-in closets, split by an adjoining bathroom.
Then, there was the basement. It was completely finished: new carpets, paint, and lighting. When you first come down the stairs, you?ll find yourself in a lovely kitchenette with tiled flooring. There was a small table, room enough for four, and a pantry.
Beyond the kitchenette was the main room, for lounging or work purposes. Its span was about two-thirds the length of the house. The closest door on the left in the living room led to the full bath; even with a garden tub/Jacuzzi. Very nice. The second door, which also adjoined with the bathroom led to the large carpeted bedroom. In the center of the room was a very big, king size bed. This, of course, led Charlotte to tease Cassie even more.
Both Cassie and Charlotte spoke with the owners and came to settle on a decent price, and put a down payment on it. The previous owners handed over the keys.
