When A Girl Loves A Boy

Gwendolyn ?Truly? Castlereigh rarely heard the word ?no? when it came to what she wanted in life. If she wanted that dress, it was hers. That car? Hers, even though she didn?t have a driver?s license yet. And that boy? She?d wanted him, and she nearly had him.

That was, until he up and left to follow his odd cousin to some backwater place that she didn?t even really understand how or where it existed. So when he?d spoken to her last, and said that things were over, she hadn?t really believed it. Nobody said no to Truly Castlereigh, and all the boys eventually came back. Hell, she couldn?t get rid of them half the time. Not that she minded being fawned over and complimented. Oh no, she quite enjoyed it. But Sebastian had been different. Oh he?d complimented her, told her she was pretty and the like, but not nearly to the extent that the others did. It had annoyed her, at first, then it intrigued her how he played hard to get almost as well as she did. But get him she did, and she got more than she bargained for.

She fell in love with him. It was Sebastian that she wanted to marry and spend the rest of her life with. And it wasn?t even his future title that tempted her. For once, Truly?s thoughts were not on what she would gain socially, or all of the pretty things she would have. Certainly those were on her mother?s mind when she encouraged the suit, and they definitely didn?t hurt. But it was Sebastian she loved, not his title or his money. And his mother was definitely not opposed to the match. After all, Truly was beautiful, her family was respected, and she would carry the family into the future with all the social grace possible.

So when he went running off to wherever it was, Truly was a little bit confused. He loved her! And she loved him! How could he leave her like that?

Truly Castlereigh did not just give up with a whimper. And his mother did NOT want Bastian following that strange girl to some strange place. So she made some well-timed comments about how Sebastian could be lured back home, and showed Truly how it was that he managed to get to where he was.

And Truly took action.

She didn't think their reunion could have gone any worse. Clearly, there were some things to do. He had changed, even in the short time he'd been away from her, and she could see it.

She'd marched into that nasty, common place and straight up to him and thrown her arms around him. And he'd not hugged her back. In fact, he'd been talking to another woman. Erin. What a common and vulgar name for a common and vulgar woman. She was probably trying to get Bastian in her bed so that she could trap him into a marriage and gain his money and social status. So perhaps Truly had attempted to get into Bastian's bed, but it had all been because she loved him and wanted to marry him, not because she wanted his title and money.

What ensued after that moment was no better. He called after that woman when she walked away.. He'd yelled at Truly! Yelled at her! Tried to intimidate her! And she let him do it because she loved him. She didn't put a stop to it, she didn't yell back. In fact, she'd even kind of begged him to come sit with her and talk. Truly never let anyone speak to her the way she'd let him, and she certainly never begged anyone for their time or attention. But.. This was important. This mattered..

He'd finally agreed to go talk with her in private. So they'd finally left that nasty place. But the talk did not go as she expected.. He would not listen to her pleas.. He wouldn't come back with her. He told her that he did not want that life anymore, the title, the money, the priviledge. He told her that he would not be happy if they went back and married, and that he would not make her happy. He told her that he was wrong for her. When she told him that she would make sacrifices for him, he'd told her she didn't know what she wanted!

Finally he started to walk away from her, so she put her foot down. She wasn't leaving without him. So she went and found herself a fancy hotel and checked in for the night. She would move to that horrible place in a few nights. He seemed to spend a lot of his time there, so it had to be there that she stayed, despite the lack of class or amenities. Truly Castlereigh was determined to get her man back!
