It was a superficial evening. One-sided drinking and idle conversation. They?d talked about Rakesh, and Daemien. How Millie was feeling with the pregnancy?though the vampiress seemed to skip on right over the question of what she planned to do with it. In her defense, Ada knew that it was a taboo question. Just like it was taboo for her to speak of Malcolm. Both wanted to ask the questions, one had more self-control than the other. Or so it seemed, anyway? Maybe Millie was just waiting for the girl to be drunk and open to talking about it?or maybe she was hoping the alcohol would spill her guts in the less gross and gorey way.
Millie wasn?t sure how they became friends, it was just one of those things that happened. Probably a tad with Malcolm?s prodding to take Ada out back in the earlier days. Now she didn?t need to be told, they just got together every now and again. Ada knew that Millie was pregnant and conflicted?and Millie knew that Ada still had feelings for Malcolm?even if she was trying to suppress them and make things work with the stud-ly veterinarian.
And sure, Millie would love for Malcolm to smarten up about Ada and stop being a prick? But the doubt of that happening was like a looming shadow over the room. Mostly, she wanted the Indian to be happy?and maybe she wanted to take credit for setting them up.
It was on their way out that the two began laughing and opening more, but Ada was showing no signs of mentioning Malcolm. "Alright..." she finally said, "I haven't decided-decided, so I don't want to confuse Daemien...but I think I know what I want... I want Daemien to be the first to know, but I'll tell you after that. Deal?"
Ada stared her down for a moment as if considering the offer, the two walked down the street together toward the coffee shop. Finally, she rolled those big browns away. "Alright..." she nodded once, watching Millie do the little victory arm pump out of the corner of her eye. "I'm not over him...but I'm trying to be. I figure if I cut our time together some, I'll have to be. So I'm trying to focus on Rakesh... And I like him, I really do. I think, I might have feelings for him. Or I could, someday.. Y'know?"
"That...seems fair," Millie nodded. "Sorry my brother's such a jackhole..." she frowned.
Ada snickered, "Sorry you got pregnant..."
"I'm not," it slipped out, and Ada's eyes popped open. Millie waved her arms, "No! I didn't say that! I did not say that!"
The Indian was well on her way to doing a happy arm flail, "Milliiie," she half whined. But the moment was soiled when screeching tires rang out. It was enough to make the vampiress cover her ears and hunch down some. A man quickly got out, but his face was...she couldn't explain it. It was almost blank in its plainness. He wore a ballcap over it, and seemed to rush up to both of them. One hand wrapped a rag around Millie's nose. The other shoved Ada, who went down pretty easily in those heels.
The now-free hand was quick to wrap back around Millie to keep her struggling at bay. It wasn't long before she was out, folding limply into the man's hold. Da--!! was all she managed to get out in the chaos of it all. "Millie!" Ada cried as the man loaded her into the back seat of the older Hyundai Sonata.
Ada tried to do a million things at once. She tried to clear her head, get a look at the car, and memorize the impossible features of the man. But on top of it all, she was jumping up and moving toward the man, heels kicked off right before she jumped on his back. "No!" she cried, and tried to choke him out.
The man was quick to just go straight down. He hopped slightly, and used his weight and gravity, to slam Ada down hard. Ada felt her head crack against the pavement, but her back had met first. "Ngh..." she whimpered, arms untangling from him as he struggled up, her consciousness began to waver.
Looking between the two women, he slammed the door shut to seal Mil in the back seat, and then loaded Ada into the front. Then he was jumping in, and driving off.
