Katt Batten

.: Jan 15th - Just before Midnight :.

Standing outside of the Inn Katt was waiting. After passing a message to Kain she seemed to simply wait.

Kain takes another long pull of the rum as he steps out the front doors ahead of the others. Not a trace of concern as he looks around for Katt, "Sorry to keep you waiting kitten. Your cousins thought we needed a chaperone for our date."

"I have cousins?" Katt's head rocked back and she looked near upside down at Kain.

Issy's chocolate eyes tried to quickly adjust to the sudden decrease in light, she looked toward Spartan.

Rhiannon came down off the porch. The long blade was in hand.

Kain just jerks a thumb over his shoulder at Issy and Spartan.

The weight that came with the shadows outside added an atmosphere all their own as those purple hues opened, looking over those that stepped out.

You heard right folks. Katt. Kain. Date!

That gets a right cackle out of the madman, who offers the bottle of rum to Katt.

The armored figure is right behind him. There's no whine as Spartan steps out - instead his hands are fists, glowing-hot blades extended as he walks towards Kain. "Come quietly. Or not. I could use a good scrape."

"You said it, mate," Janie agreed aloud with Spartan.

Wanda moved off to the side watching. In her head, mental calculations were being formulated.

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum? Katt took it in one hand and locked her arm with Kain's arm. She glanced blandly to Spartan.

And then Spartan comes to a stop so sudden he might've run into a wall.

"Ten gold he doesn't come anywhere quietly." Issy narrowed her eyes.

Kain's eyes widen slightly, and he lets out another laugh as he accepts her arm with the last remaining shred of his former dignity, "You surprise me kitten."

Janie couldn't help it. Issy's statement got a snort out of her.

A crooked smile and a wink flashed at Issy when Rhiannon heard that crack.

There was a slight smile at that from Wanda. Things where not always what they seemed... Even if this madman was looking like a walking cliche.

Katt's lips curved into the cutest little smile you ever did see! "You didn't put anything in the rum did you?" She was iffy when it came to her drinks..sue her.

Her blonde head tilted a bit as Janie was watching Spartan.

The gold-helmed head turns, looking between Katt and Kain, the blades glowing white-hot at his sides before he looks at Katt. "Step away from him, Katt. He's coming with me, whether he likes it or not."

"And waste good rum?" A less manic laugh at that. "Balls in your court doll." Then his lips turn to a frown at Spartan's words, "Did I say cousin? More like big brother." Stage-whispered to Katt.

"F*cking games...." Issy advanced slowly, blade out and aimed at Kain.

Katt rumbled a quiet sound and it did very much sound like a growl..at Spartan no less. "I do believe he is in my company and willingly so?" She peeked up to Kain to make sure this was so?

Rhiannon stayed out of Spartan's line of fire, but kept her eyes on Katt.

"Chess..." Wanda murmured softly watching the scene. Sometimes games needed to be played out to expose an opening.

Another amused chuckle, then Kain simply nods to Katt. "You're first on my dance card tonight."

"Dance later. Talk with me for a little bit?" Full greens peered at Kain thoughtfully. "Walk, talk, and booze. Then we can play. Or you can come back to my place tonight." Yes..Katt did just say that.

Another step is taken towards the pair. More in Kain's direction than Katt's. "You either step away from her right now, or I'm going to splatter you all over the street." One hand comes up, the white-hot blade coming to a halt only inches from Kain's chest.

That got an eyebrow raise from the beach bunny. Janie was more than impressed with Katt.

Rhiannon glanced from Spartan to Katt. "Katt, please don't get shot. Again."

Genuine surprise from the madman at Katt's words, then Kain chuckles loudly. "You do surprise me... Why not. This could be fun." He glances down at Sparan's blade, amused and curious how this will play out.

Katt's words caused Issy to pause. Her head turned and as she watched the now raven haired beauty, the Scathachian actually took a step or two back and lowered her blade. She squinted only slightly as she watched Katt, curious

"My powers allow me to heal." Wanda offered quietly to those that could hear. This was not going to end good, which is why she did not take Issy up on her bet. Never bet against a sure thing.

Katt eyed Spartan momentary, hugging Kain's arm to her bosom. "Mine.."

An aside from Janie, "I think she just flipped her noggin."

Kain smirk grows as Katt holds tighter. His eyes track back up to Spartan's helmet. "What now Lion?"

Issy sheathed her blade, nodding slightly in Katt's direction.

Rhiannon had heard the whisper of 'chess' earlier from the stranger and remembered just what the most versatile piece on the board was. She tipped a nod to Wanda to acknowledge that she had heard her.

There was a nod back to Rhiannon as Wanda watched from her position. Appearances indeed could be deceiving and the flighty air had long since vanished.

The ball was definitely in Katt's court now, and Isuelt elected to let her have the play. Her dark eyes looked to Spartan and if she could catch his vision, she'd give him a nod of confidence in Katt.

The blade at Kain's chest twitches closer, close enough to feel the heat coming off of it in waves. Finally, though, they retract, and Spartan looks to Katt for a moment. Not a word is said in that glance, and then he looks back to Kain. "You listen to me, maggot. If so much as a single cell is out of place when I see her again, then I will find you. And when I'm done, there won't be enough of you to left to put in a petri dish."

"Oh I understand perfectly Lion. I'm just as curious as you lot are." Kain glances down at Katt again, "Lead on then."

Issy's muscled arms over her chest, her gaze panned over the front porch for a moment. Those eyes rested on Tass.

There was a strange in the back of Katt's throat when she heard Spartan. The only expression that followed was the smile up to Kain. "Sweet!" She offered him back the rum. "But I sorta want my own drink. Do you like smoothies? There are these awesome smoothies in the market." Was she..yes she was..she was dragging Kain along and yammering like he was her new best friend.

"So that's it? We're going to let this guy go? I thought he said he was wanted for murder and public disorder and whatever?" Janie was nearly incensed as her hands came to rest on her hips. Those oceanic eyes looked from Issy to Rhiannon and Wanda and then back to Katt.

The frozen ground had more warmth than those purple hues, but perhaps not as much movement as the white flecks continued to dance their erratic pattern across his pupils. Tass continued to stand there, wrapped in the darkness that seemed to writhe in it's own life about him, quitely watching.. perhaps waiting...

Kain frowns at the mention of smoothies, "Maybe with enough rum..." This had better be worth it.

Issy tried to ignore Janie's grating as she finally looked away from Tass, only to see Katt trying to drag Kain off for a smoothie. She pressed her lips together and looked to Spartan.

As they go, Spartan steps out into the street, watching them closely. It's not until he's out of sight that he moves, dropping to a crouch and slamming a fist into the street. The impact is hard enough to make the ground shake and cracks zigzag away in five directions from that point of impact. But what's really impressive is that when he comes back up again there's a visible crack in the armor itself, running up his arm.

Katt's head tilted up and she whispered something to Kain. Just to see his reaction.

Rhiannon was standing at the foot of the stairs and looked to Janie. "Good doesn't play by the same rules as evil. If we did, not a stone in any building in Rhydin would be standing. And there would be no good nor evil just death and destruction."

"Sometimes it is best not to force a direct confrontation. Especially with a powerful being." Wanda mused adding a silent promise to ensure they promise the armored one has made is brought to fruition.

As he's walking alongside Katt, Kain suddenly lets out loud laugh. Not a cackle, not a chuckle, but a genuine laugh. "That's a new one!"

Issy felt the shiver in the ground beneath her feet and it coaxed an exhale from her mouth. While she didn't know the source, it felt like an exclamation point on what she had just witnessed.

"This is wonkers, you know. No wonder this town is such a bloody mess!" And with that, Janie turned and stalked back up the steps and into the Inn.

Rhiannon's nostrils flared and she grabbed for the hand rail on the stairs as the ground shook.

Issy still had not said a word. Though as she looked sidelong at Janie's departure, she sighed.::

Rhiannon looked to Issy as Janie went back in. "She just learned this tonight?"

"Shh! You can't tell nobody!" Katt wiggled a brow. "Okie so talkie!" And yes she poked at Kain a bit with the hand that had him all wrapped up tight. The other hand was deep in her hoodie's pocket.

(A huge thanks to Rhiannon Brock, Wanda, Issy, Janie, Tass, Spartan, and Kain for this Scene!)

Marketplace...

"You said someone did that to Renna?" She blinked. Yeah she remembered Renna few days back..begging for flesh. Creepy on a whole world of a new level.

The grin is still evident as he walked alongside Katt. "Of course. Someone kicked her ass. I'm not quite sure who, but I have my suspicions."

She blinked mildly. "Bah! You aren't going to share? Mean!" Well of course he was mean..duh.

There's no sound to indicate he's there, nothing to be seen as Ranger settles onto a rooftop. The cloaking system sees to that as he looks down on Kain and Katt, watching in invisible silence.

Kain chuckles softly, "I think her creations were a little *too* perfect. They're supposed to be copies of her after all."

"Copies?" Blink. Slowly her head craned to one side. "Is that why it seems like she doesn't really die? Because there are copies of her that just sorta uhm..take over?" Slowly her nose wrinkled up at a thought. It a very distasteful thought too! Icky face.

"You really didn't know this part?" His eyes wider as he grins, letting out a chuckle. "Her virus re-writes it's victim's brains into copies of her personality."

Above them Ranger appears, black and silver, glowing blue-white optics focused on the pair. "So quite naturally it was just a matter of time before they turned on her."

There was an inward shudder at that. "Really now. Nope..didn't know that. Nobody cares enough to keep me in the loop. Shoot..nobody even listens to me. Which if they would of they might of ..you know..been able to stop some of the things with Raven. I mean he pretty much told me ..he even told them.." Sigh.

Kain wasn't even the slightest bit surprised to see Ranger, "Of course. She's lost her mind too many times. Gotten sloppy with her obsession over Isuelt." He turns back to Katt, chuckling softly at her admission. "That's part of why I dropped in tonight. To see if him and the rest are as inept now, as they've been so far." Nodding towards Ranger.

Her eyes tilted to Ranger much like Spartan. The empty stare just went right through. After a moment she tilted her eyes to Kain. "That and becaue of the Post and what it said, right?"

"You're far brighter than the others... You just might have a chance." Grinning maliciously at Katt. "Yes. I think Brian has learned what I did. I want to see which side of this wins. Either way, a lot of people are going to end up miserable."

There's no rise to the bait that Kain lays out for Ranger to take, simply a shrug. "No one can be everywhere all the time. And Raven is a cunning operator...and he's been here long enough to have the advantage of the home field." He looks towards Kain then. "As far as Raven's latest plans, there have been contingencies in place to prevent that since the last attempt on the Governor. He just doesn't know about them."

"What you did..?" She blinked slowly at Kain. You'd think she was ..ignoring Ranger?

"I don't doubt that you've made plans, I just doubt your ability to plan ahead of him. You've been several steps behind so far, but let's save that for another discussion Lion." And again Kain turns back to Katt, "Ahh, the first person to truly ask me that in decades. You really want to know what I am?"

Her full greens were on Kain. "Sure." And if he was okay with talking about it in front of Ranger who was she to say no?

Kain chuckles again, taking another long pull from the bottle of rum. "I used to be like him. A hero, protector... Naive. Nearly four hundred years I fought the 'good fight'. Making a little headway here and there, but ultimate accomplishing little lasting.

Sounds a bit like Ravenlock, doesn't it?"

Again, no rise to the bait. Nor any response to Katt's cold shoulder. In fact, for the moment Ranger falls silent, listening. If nothing else, the man under the black and silver armor is a sucker ofr a good story that's also informative.

She was walking still with Kain in arm. Down one street..turn here..down another. Just walking and a talking. At some point in time she even withdrew her hand out of the pocket to reach for the bottle. Seriously..she was listening. "Like Brian..yeah. Not so much naive though. Maybe just you and me?" she teased and took a drink.

"I think that my will lasted longer than Ravenlock's did, but you see enough loss and you realize the futility of trying. The only thing in the universe that truly lasts... Is entropy."

"One day after I saw yet another wife and family killed by those I fought, one more friend cut down... I simply gave up and embraced that truth."

"Have you ever ..you know..regretting giving up?" She nibbled out another drink before passing on the bottle.

The chuckle that follows her question is a bitter one. "Once or twice. A few of my old friends even tried to redeem me. I let them watch as I gutted them. The man I was is long since gone."

Ranger follows along, remarkably silent despite the bulky suit of armor, listening still.

"I think there is a difference between you and Raven, however." Her lips twitched faintly as if there was some unknown secret. A totally 'i know something you don't know'. She stopped in the middle of the street and turned to Kain, her head tilting faintly to one side.

"Oh yes! You may be right about that, but there was something in his words when he mentioned the futility of these heroes." Another chuckle and a pull of rum, killing the bottle. "Perhaps he's just started down the same path? Either way, I will enjoy watching this unfold."

"You know it will be coming to an end soon? Whatever he has planned he plans on finishing it soon." She rocked, swaying on her heels as she stood before Kain. There was this very strange look she was giving him. Almost doe-eyed really.

"Of course. His motives are revenge against the people who betrayed him to Travanix The only reason he's targeted the Governor is to prove to you, and the rest of this city, that you can't stop the chaos."

She ticked a finger at Kain. "He targets the Governor because he blames the government for what happened. They did nothing when it came to Travanix. Hell they don't do anything now against the slavers." A step was taken closer to Kain, testing the waters.

"That's a good way to put it. Hmmm, perhaps he isn't what I thought. Pity." Kain chucks the bottle over his shoulder, 'coincidentally' in the direction where Ranger was following. "Even if you're right though, he's still going to end up killing and maiming a good number of people along the way."

"He already has." Her toes came to bump into Kain's and she did something unexpected. Her arms went up and around his neck, hugging him down to her level.

Yeah, totally coincidental. Just like the plasma blast that meets it and shatters it to dust in midair.

A chuckle escapes the madman, his eyes sliding down to Katt's face. "You're very curious."

"I'm naive..just a little baker.." She pointed out. Someone elses words but it still seemed how everyone viewed her. Her cheek slid along Kain's then dipped and she nestled her face lightly against the side of his neck, just above the curve that met shoulder.

The Ranger halted now, watching from above. The armor makes it impossible to see the expression on his face, but both of them would likely have found it very amusing.

"A baker you might be... But you are far more cunning and manipulative than anyone knows." He chuckles again, his scarred face almost blank. "Quid pro quo Kitten. What is your play here?"

Kitten she purrs. Soft rumble at the back of her throat. "(s) Are you complaining? So mean..." Her nose drew up slowly against the skin of Kain's neck. Was that? Oh no that couldn't of been her tongue taking the time to lave up along the skin now would it? ...yep.

"You're trying very hard to seduce me. I'm curious why." He neither withdrew nor encouraged, simply ignored the sultry actions.

She smirked against his skin. "Hardly seducing..More like..prepping." Fingers clenched into Kain's back just as she bit into his neck. Quite firmly in fact.

Well well, he honestly hadn't seen that coming. The madman let out an initial cry of pain and surprise and tried to pull away from the small woman. Blood starts flowing down the front of his clothing as he c*cks back one hand and aims a punch straight for the side of Katt's head!

A throaty, animalistic growl gurgled from her at the punch and as a respond she bit harder, pulling on Kain's vital viciously. Was not a pretty sight her fingers inking with that metallic darkness, fashioning claws that were latching into Kain's back. When she said hers..She meant it. An eye fell closed, attempting to shake off the rattle his punch caused.

What the...? That was certainly unexpected, and as Ranger watches Katt changing and Kain trying to fight her off, he realizes where they are. For a moment he hesitates at the edge of the roof they're on - he can't do anything with Katt wrapped around him.

By this point Kain was incapable of speech, the tearing of his throat spilling blood down his windpipe and gullet. Instead he gurgles in pain, and amusement, actually trying to laugh even as she opens his jugular. His punches grow gradually weaker as he looses more and more blood.

Katt was waiting till he was weak enough before her head ripped back, canines tucked behind vital dripping lips. Opps..she had made quite a mess didn't she? And she had no intentions on licking the wound closed. Instead she tilted her head and nipped his ear. "(vs) You have been most informative, Kain. But I am afraid I must give you up now. Thank you.." And she mean the later of her words. She thanked him for a lot more then she was telling him. Pulling her claws free she attempted to trip Kain down to the ground and on his back.

Though his body was growing weaker and weaker, his eyes were still crystal clear, locked onto Katt's own. His lips actually curl into a smile, even as he coughs. Slowly, he mouths the words: 'See you later, killer.'

She twitched ever so faintly and her eyes snapped away. Instead she looked up for Ranger. What a sight that must be eh? Standing over prey and drenched in blood. Like a cat bring a dead bird to its beloved owner she seemed to wait for the Ranger to take over.

Now Ranger moves, pushing off from the edge of the roof into space, landing neatly beside Katt with the heavy sound of metal meeting stone. For the moment he's silent as he watches Kain's blood drain from him, before he looks to Katt. "You know...I have to say, I'm impressed."

The madman continues to chuckle weakly around his own blood as he watches the pair of them. Even now his body was slowly working to repair itself, but only just keeping up with the blood loss to keep him conscious.

Constricted pupils were slowly starting to relax and she took the time to shake her hands free of blood. "You might want to take him into custody soon. Cell him up or whatever you plan on doing with him."

Ranger looks back down at Kain, one hand opening to reveal the pulse generator built into his palm. "Good point." There's a fast upcycling whine an instant before a blast of pure electrical energy is let loose at Kain with the intensity of lightning.

Ever seen a frog get electrocuted? Yeah, this is a little like that, except he's still laughing even as Kain's clothing and flesh crisp and catch fire. It's apparent why he was laughing a few seconds later, when the power cells in the two swords on his back detonate like plasma grenades.

It is a good thing he's made some enhancements. As Ranger realizes what's about to happen, the huge energy surge registering on his sensors, and he's moving to snatch Katt up, turning his back to Kain and shielding her from the blast with his own body.

When the flash is over, Kain's head and upper torso is either vapor or an expanding pool of liquefied tissue. Starting at breast hight, he's a toasted marshmallow.

Katt blinked when she was scooped up and she curled up at the blast. Opps. "Was..that suppose to happen?"

As the blast passes, Ranger lets Katt go, shaking his head and turning around to look at Kain where he's laying. The armor on his back, Katt would see, looks as though it's been melted and cracked in places, but even as she watches, it begins repairing itself. "No. But at least we don't have to worry about him repairing himself on the way." Leaning down, he grabs a leg and picks the remains of the body by it. "Come on, Katt. Let's get your lucky contestant here into a cell."

Katt frowned as she eyed the metal that was..slowly but surely repairing itself. Her brows twitched then relaxed. "My lucky contestant?" That was an odd sort of way to put it. He was on his own while collecting body parts too! She was not into Kain goop thank you. His blood..was ...so-so! Grade B!

He nods as he picks up anything that looks salvageable, clearly not squeamish at all, before he starts dragging it all towards the Batten Industries security building. "Yeah. You bagged him, that makes him your catch."

She should of probably headed back to the inn to put ease to peoples minds. Instead she simply started to follow. "Wasn't exactly attempting to..bag him as you say." Her steps jarred briefly as she squared her shoulders then shook something off before falling back into step. "Kain was willing to talk.. All he needed was an ear willing to listen." She shrugged briefly. "With so many trying to jump down his throat he wasn't going to talk.. And trying to take him in would of just probably ended with him escaping or someone getting hurt."

Question was..would Kain want to have 'quiet time' with her again. Heheh.

Ranger nods, the gesture looking thoughtful as he drags the body along, turning a corner. And there, in clear sight, is the Batten Industries security building. At the ground level is a pair of very large, thick steel doors which are just swinging open as they approach. "It was damn clever, is what it was." There's the sound of a computer-filtered chuckle. "So much for the 'naive little baker.' You had even me fooled."

Katt's lips flicked ever so faintly at the compliment. Glancing over shoulder she started to frown. "I should probably go to the inn and show face so people don't think..I think as Janie put it..flipped my wig.." Raising a hand she chewed on her nail a bit. "Ranger..we need to talk soon if and when you have time.."

He chuckles, pausing at the entrance to look at Katt. "I'm working on having time...a friend of mine keeps telling me I need to get out more. So...go on. If you don't see me later tonight, you can find me tomorrow."

"You do..I ...I miss seeing you around." That sounded a bit more sad then she was aiming for. She smiled and waved, turning on her heels and hauling rear to the inn.

As she turns to go, Ranger heads into the building, dragging what's left of Kain below to lock him into a cell. NOT the one next door to Renna.

(My many thanks to Ranger and Kain who made this most epic wtfness possible~)
