Briallyn

The morning after the wedding of Count Longden and his pretty young bride found Briallyn Dawn Wintermorn once again riding the road to Longden castle. In her saddle bag rested a folder of documents, records of births more than a half century past. With them affidavits from the midwife who attended both births at Winterhaven Hall, and one from the woman who had been wet nurse to the first babe, and nanny to the second.

Not sure of the reception she would recieve after last nights excitement, Briallyn left her horse with the lads at the stable, and made her way to the castle doors. She was almost suprised to find her sister just exiting those doors.

"Why Eiellani! What a pleasent suprise! I just came to deliver those documents that your husband requested." Calculateing chocolate eyes studdied the pale form of the other woman before a somewhat mocking smile bloomed on lips again painted a deep rich red. " Why sister you do look pale today, I hope naught is wrong after last eve?"

Eiellani gave a weak smile was given in response. "Oh I'll be fine, mornings just trouble me some. I was just going to walk in the gardens, would you like to join me?" There was a wary hope in those words, "Talomar can wait a while for the papers I would like to get to know you a bit."

Pushing a dark lock from her eyes Briallyn looked Lani over again. "It's rather cold out, Perhaps we could have tea inside again?" She was dieing to get a better look at the castle from the inside, and this might just give the perfect excuse.

"Oh.. yes you must be cold. Please do come inside, I'll have Lillia fetch us chocolate and cinnamon cakes. I'm afraid I can't abide tea." Lani smiled a warm smile and offered the other woman her arm, not giving her a chance to refuse taking her hand and tucking its crimson painted nails around her elbow. "With the baby coming I find eating a challenge of late."

Count Longden had finished disposing of Philippe's body and had come into the library in a rather foul mood. He wondered where his wife had gone as he picked up some legal papers and begins to read.

Lani lead Bri through the castle to the library, figuring on asking Talomar to join them as it seemed he and Briallyn had business to conduct. As she walked she kept glancing over to the other woman almost nervously.

He wondered what he was going to do now that Philippe is gone, and how to get rid of Dominique once and for all.

Bri studied the passageways through the castle quite curiously. This really was a rather fine home, one like she would one day like to have.

Pausing outside the library door Eiellani knocked softly, before creaking the door open a few inches to call softly "Tal? Are you in there?"

"Yes, my dear. Please enter."

A falsely bright smile back to the other woman as she opens the door the rest of the way "Briallyn has come to deliver those papers she promised dearest, then she is staying for chocolate and cinnamon cakes."

He gave a heavy sigh, not really wanting to be bothered, but if it got her out of his hair, "Okay...do come in, Let's see those papers."

Red painted lips curl into a grim imitation of a friendly smile as gloved fingers hold up the leather document case. "I know that time is precious, so I thought I would waste none bringing these. I know this is your honeymoon," the words had a hollow ring to them "So I shall not stay long"The document case was set before Talomar with a surprising economy of movement, And flipped open to the first page.
"Very thought out I'm sure."He takes the first document and begins to study it, well acquainted with the law.

Eiellani moved to stand by her husbands shoulder, peering at the documents curiously.

He ignored everyone as he read the document, then turned over a page.
The top document is the Kirk records from Winterhaven, dated just shy of sixty one years ago, bearing Eiellani's name, and the signatures of the midwife and priest, The second is a nearly identical but newer document dated ten years to the day later, Bearing Bri's name, and the signature of a second priest."I see that..." still reading. "All appears to be in order so far if they haven't been falsified."

"You will find in there sworn statements from members of the Wintermorn household who tended both Eiellani and I as children.. and directions on how to find each person."

He looked to Lani, "Do you know these people who have sworn these statements?"

Lani looks over the names on the list and points to two. "That one was my wet nurse and nanny... and that was the old cook who used to make me lemon cakes.I don't remember any of the others.. but I was still young when Mother and I left Winterhaven."

"Hmm...Are any of these people still living?"

"Oh indeed" Bri gave another overly sweet smile "Every one of them"

"Good, we'll have to check them out to see if they will confirm these statements, but for now, Lani, it looks like you have a legitimate sister."

A rather shy smile curved Eiellani's lips "I always rather wanted family of my own."

He stood and rolled up the papers. "It looks like you have one my love." He looked to Bri, "I'll keep these papers."

"But of course... when you are done with them, you might have a messenger return the Kirk records to Winterhaven.. as those are the original and only copies"

He nodded. "I'll do that. So what are your plans Ms. Brightflame?"

"Wintermorn... Miss Wintermorn." an eloquent shrug of graceful shoulders "As of the moment I have no concrete plans. I simply came to get to know my sister"

Lani gently tugged on Talomar's sleeve trying to get his attention "Tal... are you joining us for tea? Lillia is setting it up in the sitting room of my suite."

He came out of his thoughts, "Of course, my darling. I'd love to join you. You and Miss Wintermorn."

The smile she gave Talomar is warm and genuine "Good, nothing will make me happier this morning than having family around me"

He put the papers in a draw and locked it, then moved to Lani's side and took her hand, "Let's not keep Lillia waiting."

Twining her fingers with her husbands she smiled back at Briallyn "The cook makes excellent cinnamon cakes. I don't know what I would do without her, she always finds something to tempt my appetite"

"Tell me Bri Wintermorn, how long do you intend to stay to get to know your sister?"

Bri gave a half bow and a smile "Lead the way Sister dear. I am at your disposal this morning. Why I am not sure Count Longden. I was half expecting to be turned away at the gates, So my plans for a return were left rather open ended"

"What do you think we ought to do with her, Lani?"

Eiellani listened to the pair of them as she lead them up to her suite, where Lillia was just laying out the last of the 'Tea' things. "I don't know M'lord... Briallyn? Where are you staying?"

A shudder of distaste rippled through her, barely masked "Currently at this quaint little establishment where my horse threw a shoe. I believe they call it the Red Dragon?"

He shakes his head, "It's not fit for vermin. You may stay here tonight."

"Oh I could not impose.." Obviously calculating and making plans already in her head, gloved fingers thumbing at the rather thin pouch at her waist ,"Besides, My serving woman with the rest of my things arrives at the docks tonight, and I really should be there to greet her personally"

Eiellani motioned sister and husband to seats in the little sitting room before pouring hot chocolate from the ornate tea pot into three cups and passing them around.

He took a seat and a cup of tea. "I have another idea."

After making sure that the plates of cakes and little sandwiches were set in easy reach Lani took her own seat still just listening.

"And what is that?"

Holds the cup to his lips, but doesn't sip. "I could offer you employment."

"And what sort of employment do you think suitable for a highborn lady M'lord?"

"You could help me run my business."

"An interesting proposition.. You will have to tell me more at a later time, after we have enjoyed my dear sister's tea and cakes" One slender dark brow arches as she took a long sip from her cup.

"There is plenty of time." He put the tea to his lips and sipped....then spat it out! "What is this!!"

Eiellani blinks. "Its Chocolate M'lord..Didn't Philippe tell you that I had all the tea thrown out because it made me ill?"

"Tastes like sewer water! Philippe!!" realizes that Philippe is now dead. "You threw out the tea?"

"Yes... just the smell of it made me lightheaded and ill."

Bri just sipped her chocolate with a vaguely amused smile on crimson painted lips. This really was a fascinating family she had found...

"Well the taste of this is going to make ME ill!" He threw the cup into the sitting room fireplace. "I need a real drink."

Lani paled a bit and drew back in her chair "I'm sorry Talomar...I did not think..."

"Well, next time try thinking!" He headed out of the room to get a glass of wine.

Scooping a cinnamon cake into her hand and taking a bite Bri murmured "Mmm.. you were right sister these are divine"

Eiellani took one look at the door, one look at the woman across from her.. then burst into tears, rising and fleeing across the suite to the bedroom.

Bri gave a shrug brushing bits of sugar from her fingers before rising, then turning to Lillia "Please give my sister my regrets that I did not get to say goodbye."

She headed towards the door of the suite leaving Eiellani there to cry things out on her own.

Talomar came back at that moment looking for his wife. "Where is she?"

Slim fingers pointed to the closed bedroom door "I'm afraid you seem to have upset her... she left the room crying."

"Upset her! She tried to poison me!"

"Poison? Nonsense... do you truly think a timid thing like that would drink something harmful while with child?" Bri tried to stifle a chuckle and a smirk at that thought.

"She doesn't realize. I cannot have anything sweet. I need Philippe!"

"Why are you bellowing at me like a wounded animal then? Go find your precious Philippe."

He looked at her with eyes that could kill. "Don't you talk to me like that or sister or not I'll have you flogged and skinned alive, and I'm just in the mood to do it."

"And perhaps.. if she did not realize... you should not be so harsh with your bride of less than twenty four hours?"

He walked up to her and brought back his hand to strike her, barely controlling himself. "Forget that job offer and get out of my home!"

Bri did not move an inch.

"NOW!!"

Calm chocolate brown eyes stared right back into his angry ones "You might say please when issuing such a delightful invitation brother in law..."Soft gloved fingers rose to touch the hand raised to strike "However did you woo that shy little thing with such a temper?"

He lashed out and struck her across the face. "Another word out of you, you slut and I'll personally show you exactly how I wooed her."

A soft hiss of breath is the only reaction to his strike, though from the color across her skin it would leave a lovely bruise. "Tsk Tsk, such a pity... And here I was hoping we could get on"

"Well, you just blew that you tramp. Get out of here now before I really loose my patience." He fully intended to make Lani pay for this evening.

Bri smirked and cooed "Darling brother.. do bear in mind you know nothing of me when you pass such... pleasant judgements on my moral character. And bear in mind.. Elves are fragile creatures.. if you harm the woman in there... you could very well harm your heir, and you would not want that would you?"

His anger began to take over and he approached her again, his hand wrapped about her neck. "I think you should be more concerned for your own safety, little sister." He began to squeeze.

Not even a whimper escaped her, just a breathy whisper " Why? What have I to loose? She has everything that I thought to be mine"

He pinned her against the wall. "You want what is hers? How about me? You want me too?" His other hand moved to her breast and held it tight. "Is that what this insolence is about...you want me?"

Just the softest hiss "I want what should have been mine.. I want her life."

He begins to pull up on her skirt with the hand that wasn't at her neck, threatening to cut off her air supply. "You shall not get her life, little sister."

Those chocolate eyes fall, not in defeat but in hooded pleasure "No... no I shan't. But I can take her joys one by one and turn them to dust. I should have been first, not that timid little rabbit"

He pulled up on her skirt until he could feel her thigh, then his hand moved to her hot crotch. "You should have been first? If you have not, it's nothing but your own fault, you slut."

A soft moan slipped from her lips, her body arching almost willingly into his hand "Oh but it is not... I blame father and that whore who mothered that spineless whelp. I should have been the firstborn if not for them"

A dangerous glow took those brown eyes "And for all that you may call my virtue tainted," a lean and a soft hiss towards his ear, "You desire me"

His hand slipped inside her undergarment, and moved to again grasp her crotch. "You'd blame the order of your birth? How infantile." His finger began to violate her, "Oh I desire you, alright."

Eyes slitted again with pleasure "Call it what you will 'M' lord' I will have all that is hers." One gloved hand rose to trail down his chest, caressing intimately "and I will start with you"

He laughed and put his finger hard into her and held it there. "You think so?" He removed his finger and brought it to his lips, smiling. He then slapped her hard across the face. "You're not woman enough to go through what your sister did. Get out!"

A low throaty chuckle "Coward. Afraid that the little wife will find you were dallying in the hall an leave you?"

"Afraid...no. I just have a little better taste. Good evening, sister. It's been nice."

A dark brow arched "You intrigue me Brother.. I believe I shall enjoy getting to know you."

"Good night." He closed the door on her and locked it. Bri was going to be a problem. How would he handle her without hurting Lani? He'd have to think about this.

A shake of her head and then she turned to find her way out of the castle
