After finishing up the talk with Tom, and finding the encounter in the Red Dragon to be more than a little unsettling, he follows his first lead: Briallyn Wintermorn, who could hopefully give him more information on the Ravenlock connection.

It had not failed to occur to him that the family, with it's fingers in everything, and hooks into everyone, would probably not be too thrilled about this. But corruption is corruption, and he's certain that there's no small amount of it there. Actions speak louder than words.

So, he headed to the boarding house and knocked on the door, hoping that this would turn up something more in his hunt to get to the truth.

A tiny blond haired child opened the inner door, in that indeterminate stage between three and five. She took one look at the man at the door, and bared tiny fangs at him before turning to yell into the house. "Aunty Bri! Theres another man here!"

It didn't take long for the elven woman to appear at the door, head ducked so that her hair half hides the scarring on her cheek.

"Can I help you?" The outer iron grillwork door stayed tightly closed between her and the man on the porch. Rose Haven was located in West End,and West End was less than safe even at midday.

"Tom sent me, ma'am," Rob replied, taking in the child (and wondering if this is the one that bites), then the woman. Knowing the WestEnd, he kept his hands in full view so it was obvious he wasn't holding any weapons.

He didn't have a whole lot of time to spare in trying to draw out information, so he just cut right to the chase with her. "I know this is probably very unexpected, but I'm looking for information about the Ravenlock family; their connections to Renna the Betrayer. I ran across one of them, and Renna in the Red Dragon earlier and there was certainly some sort of connection there. Given that she spent her morning murdering maybe thirty more people, all of them common humans who couldn't easily defend themselves with magic or enchanted weaponry, you can probably understand why this is a very important issue. I'm Rob Mitchell, from the Rhy'Din Vindicator Chronicle, and I'm really trying to get to the truth of a lot of things here -- the diminishing Watch, the murderers, everything. Can you help?"

A nervous look around and then she was opening the door. "You better come inside. How's Tom doing? We had some trouble with vandals a little bit ago, and he helped us clean up."

She opened the iron door and ushered Rob into the parlor, an airy room full of bookcases and comfortable seating. "Lilly will you go tell housekeeper we have a guest, and have her bring us some lemonade?"

The little girl nodded and ran off to do as she was asked, and Bri motioned to a chair "Have a seat, Mr Mitchell. What would you like to know about the Ravenlocks?"

Once he was safely inside, Rob took the offered seat, nodding his thanks. "Tom's doing all right, considering... he's frustrated and under the gun like the rest of the Watch, but he's still alive and still trying hard to do his job. But as for the Ravenlocks..."

The encounter at the Red Dragon. Start there.

"...I ran across one of them, I think it was Brian. I was trying to get him to talk about what was going on in the city; Tom had mentioned that the family treats Renna as kind of a 'black sheep relative'. Brian denied the Ravenlock family having any relation to her, but then she just happened to come into the Inn while Tom and I were talking, and I didn't fail to notice the amenable look they exchanged.

"Considering that he had just been talking about how he had tried to clean up the city, especially here in the WestEnd, you can well imagine why I would have questions about what he's doing sharing looks with a murderer himself."

Rob took the lemonade when the housekeeper brought it, with a quiet thanks, then looked up at Bri sort of hopefully. "What can you tell me?"

"Its a long story Mr Mitchell, and I don't have all the details. I was.. away when most of it happened and when I returned Brian didn't tell me much." Bri played with her skirt. "Renna... has some sort of history with Brian, she and Brian, somehow created a 'child' together. Someone called Lucy. I never met her.. but Renna makes constant allusions to wanting Brian back.."

Bri swallowed a little, "I feel awkward talking about this. But there is a connection there. I wish that I had more details for you."

The housekeeper brought round glasses of lemonade and a plate of cookies.

"Is there anything else I can do for you Mr Mitchell? I saw the first issue of your paper... Its good that someone is finally addressing the crime in the news here. I was a bit worried though to see Lord Travanix had made the most wanted list."

Well. Talk about a bombshell. As far as he knew, fathering a child with someone did count as a relationship, of whatever sort. Rob raised both eyebrows when he heard that -- it was more than just a little piece of news.

He had a feeling he would be talking to a lot of Ravenlocks, or ex-Ravenlocks in the near future.

For the moment, though, he wasn't sure what else he could ask Bri about the connections. And he nodded in reply to her comment on Travanix. "He did. I haven't had a chance to investigate what all's going on there myself -- Tom was the one who handed me the Most Wanted list, and his name happened to be on there. Have you had a run-in with him?"
