Iron Clad Forge is located in the Old Market area, a few blocks away from the north wall. At the corner of Thrush and Starling, around the corner from Santori's butcher shop.

Two bay doors face each other, creating a breezeway straight through the building. The inside of the forge is lit by overhead industrial pendant lamps as well as a few strings of twinkle lights (i.e., Christmas lights) that run the perimeter of the ceiling to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Smoked applewood chips and dried lavender smolder sweetly on glowing embers to provide an additional lure to any walking by.

Storage cabinets sit along three walls and between the bay doors is a rolling shelf unit that holds raw materials: sheet metal, long bars of iron and prefabricated hilts and pommels for different types of blades.

The forge itself sits along the back wall, warming the space around it within a five foot radius - for the open house, fireplace screens made by Fin guard the space to keep people at bay. A tall oscillating fan in the corner near the front door helps keep the air circulating through the open windows.

A table has been set up along the front wall, flanked by buckets of beer on each end. The table itself is covered with sandwich platters, provided by a local deli in the neighborhood, New Leaf. To-go menus were displayed between the platters to take home.

On the sidewalk outside stood an easel with a square sheet of metal resting upon it where postcards advertised his business, bearing the name on the front and contact information on the back.

They are held in place by magnets bearing bottle openers, also forged by Fin and also bearing the name of his business.

One of the coffee trucks, Runcible Spoon, agreed to stop by from 7-9 pm to serve half-price drinks, knowing how many of his friends seemed to enjoy it at all hours of the night as well as the day.

((Feel free to post character interactions and PV sets! Once again, much much love to Ketch Creeley for the logo! It's amazing.))

Ray and Charlie show up shortly after the doors open so that the two can show their support for the Scot, the former of which admiring the strings of twinkle lights as much as anything else with eyes that twinkle star-lit beneath them.

If there are any weapons on display, they check them out, though she's more interested in the swords whereas he is drawn to more concealable knives. It's possible Charlie is designated driver tonight, because she doesn't drink at all, but Ray picks up the slack and has a beer in hand for most of the night.

Often, his other hand is occupied by the finespun fingers of his girlfriend that remain twined in his and the two appear inseparable.

A couple hours ahead of them, a delivery service brings a heavy box containing the setup for an arbor swing and the couple brings flowering vine seeds for it in the form of blue moon wisteria. The box itself will come with a note for Fin informing him that the gift is from Ray, Charlie, Tag, and Madison for his rooftop garden!

Kate heard something about a shindig of some sort so of course, she made a cameo to see what it was all about. A little birdy (or a few birdies) gave her the DL and she managed to scrounge up a gifty type of thing for the tall, blonde blacksmith.

She mingled with Charlie and Ray, gave Ketchy-pop's butt a hi five and presented Fin with his T-shirt once she managed to tear him away from the fifty other people he was talking to.

A beaming smile graced her face as she handed it over. "I think it will fit you perfectly," literally and figuratively. With a saucy wink, she kissed her fingers and pressed them to his cheek before sauntering away to grab a beer and see who else was around.

Her gift to Fin:

Josette arrived post performance, lured to the right spot with the help of the enticing aroma of smoked apple wood chips and lavender. Such warm, sensory touches were immensely appreciated by the petite ballerina.

With sincere admiration, she congratulated Fin on the opening of his forge. It was no small feat for a person to open their own business and it took an immense amount of courage in Josie's mind. With a wish of bonne chance, she gave him a plaque with an anvil and hammer design that read "The future belongs to the few of us still willing to get our hands dirty." Not wanting to take up his time at the opening, she promised to visit the forge again soon with a potential commission in mind.

She said hello to Charlie and Ray, as well as any other familiar faces she spotted. Warm smiles and greetings were also given to those she was not yet familiar with, before she became in engrossed in perusing around for any unique knives that might make a potential future gift for her brother Isaac.

Though Saila didn't know the Scottish blacksmith all that well just yet, they had run across one another enough times--most recently at Charlie's birthday party-- that the purple haired teenager made a point to come support the opening of his new shop.

Hex was glad to come with her once he found out he wouldn't have to dress up. And hey, there was beer.

Saila picked up one of the post cards, and probably absconded with one of the bottle openers, too. If he was available, there were better than even odds that the muse had a million questions for Fin, wanting to know what everything was, what he did with it and how it worked. If he wasn't, then it was extremely likely the girl could be seen running her fingers thoughtfully over most anything that looked safe enough to touch. Chances are high that some of both happened.

Perhaps to make up for monopolizing some of his time with her thousands of questions, Saila had brought a gift for him. She couldn't have said why she picked it out, exactly, just that she thought it was pretty and that he might like it.

Despite the warm summer night, the couple could probably be found in the vicinity of the forge more than once, because Saila's something of a heat-seeking lizard that way and Hex doesn't seem to mind it.

They would spend some time catching up with Charlie and Ray, Josette, and anyone else they might know or otherwise introduce themselves to. When it was time to depart, they could be seen leaving on Hex's "new" 2005 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Wide Glide.

Tessa didn't know Ironclad's proprietor but as a smith of sorts herself, she was drawn just the same. She came bearing two bottles of champagne, one meant for drinking, while the other, gold and bearing the current year in commemoration of the forge's opening, was meant for keeping. She didn't know anyone and therefore didn't stay long save for the time it took to appreciate the forge's setup, exchange one her own business cards for one of the postcards, and perhaps offer her congratulations to Fin if she managed two seconds to do so. A sandwich and a to-go menu for New Leaf were stolen away when she left not long after arriving.

The Redneck

Date: 2016-07-15 12:19 EST
How could Thorn not support Fin's forge's opening?

The redneck was there with the merry chime of bells and jingle of chains that pretty much always accompanied her. Her smiles were sun bright and dimple flanked, and full of pride and joy for the Scot.

Matter of fact, if he didn't mind, she probably stole him for a round, or three, of squishy hugs and cheek kisses. Before hitting up the food, not so much the beer, she offered her most heart-felt and sincere congratulations to him, and a gift in the form of a forged rose in a cherry wood box.

Through the course of the evening she mingled and wandered and browsed and laughed and smiled. In general, she had a fantastic time.

Duci arrived with a long, thin black box in her arms. Making a beeline for Fin, she patiently waited in the line of people to give him his gift and a kiss to his cheek while squeezing him with one arm in a loose hug. "Congratulations on the opening, I hope you find your gift useful." There's a coquettish waggle of her brows before she winks and abandons him to a new wave of wellwishers after a few more words of pleasantries.

Helping herself to a sandwich and a beer, she takes a look around and mingles with others. Hellos for all the familiar faces, and the unfamiliar, kisses reserved for her girlfriends and Ketch's butt is getting another squeeze. Hey, fair game!

Before leaving for the Caller Meet & Greet, she exchanges one of her business cards for his, should he ever need transportation or shipping services. It's possible she also nabs a magnet.

Upon opening the gift box, Fin will find a small square note that says, "To: Fin Best Wishes: Duci" and has a lip print under her name. Under the note is black tissue paper concealing a pair of embroidered boarhide and kevlar gloves. At the hem, they read:

Salome came early and stayed late for three reasons. Eye candy, free food, and to support the ambitions of a very sweet man who she believed deserved nothing but good things. Just keep her away from the beer.

Sabine

Sabine would stop in briefly to have a look around, say hello to a few familiar faces, leave her gift and then be on her way. If anyone asked she would say she had a work thing.

For Fin:
"Relaxing" handmade tea blend -insert a winky face- and some pizza gift certificates. A knit cap bearing his business name for when the cold comes, and a horseshoe necklace.

Wouldn't be until the sun fell silent and dusk rose anew that Lyra made a cameo appearance. No gifts were brought in an attempt at favoritism from the proprietor of the forge; she left as empty handed as she arrived.

Jeremy Owens

Jeremy and Layla arrived together-- that was happening more than not. The two semi-reclusive people used one another for a crutch to survive social events. Beyond that, he was a metal worker from Iona's shop, so the opening of a 'competitor' was of interest to him. He wanted, partly, to see what the shop was like. He also wondered, quietly, if there were any positions available.

"The hardest part," he indicated to the cold anvil and metal forging set up with a smile, "is remembering that something can be hot even if it isn't glowing. It'll get a black coat to it and in the beginning you will forget how hot it can be without glowing or steaming. Just about every iron worker I know has scars from learning that." Jeremy was no exception. His 'learning scar' was rather long and down the left forearm as a softly raised, white scar. He had thought the sword he was working on was cooled off and handle-friendly. The length of the blade had touched his forearm and he hadn't forgotten that experience. It quickly schooled him for being impatient.

In the gathering, so far, there was only Saila who was familiar. To her he tipped his head in greeting, smiling briefly before he and Layla continued about their way, enjoying the space and invite of the forges grand opening.

Lucy Mitford

Lucy arrived about an hour early, just to be on hand in case anything went awry, or last minute purchases/coordinating needed to happen. Although she wasn't hosting the event by any means, she tried to help be a friendly face, subtly directing traffic towards Fin when it seemed like she was meeting potential customers, and smiling and chit-chatting with those she knew.

She did, however, regularly retreat to the background to find a moment of quiet for a drink, even if she had to step outside the place to find solitude.

Also, she was uncharacteristically empty-handed, having failed to bring Fin a gift of any kind.

Benjamin Piers

Date: 2016-07-16 11:47 EST
Benjamin stepped in with a bright grin and lugging along a box of parts. Though he was clean in a Marvin the Martian T-shirt and shorts, the box was pretty cruddy and greasy and smelled of old charcoal and iron. He set it down by the forge before turning to steal a hug from Fin, and gave one back.

He'd hang around most of the evening, socializing and keeping mainly out of trouble.

As for the box, it looked like he'd been spelunking in ruins again, and carried off an old rivet forge... in pieces... needing restoration. But he'd downloaded plans and schematics off the internet and printed them out. It wasn't a complete puzzle of parts.

Assembled, it'd look like this:

The Ribbon Man and Finlay MacKenzie bounced off each other from time to time. Often enough that it made the old Crow wonder why. He thought and remembered from his vantage nearby the newly opened forge. He did not go inside although, Thorn, Lucy Mitford and the Bright Star that was Benjamin Piers made entrance tempting. He did not bring a gift.

He smoked a Murad before turning to the left and disappearing into Faerie.

Lirssa Sarengrave

Old Market being one of her old, and current, stomping grounds, she had watched the forge over weeks get ready for its grand opening. She knew Finlay from some time ago, and felt she really should attend and wish him well that the forge he spoke of, worked towards, was now real. That brought a smile to her face. A dream fulfilled.

The gift for Finlay was a sketchbook of very fine drawing paper for ideas, thoughts, and secret things. And a deck of cards.

Lirssa spoke mostly with the neighboring residents who had also come to the grand opening. But those people she knew who seemed open to a chat or two, were greeted to share idle news.

Jewell liked Fin. Actually, she didn't know him well enough to really like him, but she thought he was hott and that was close! Unfortunately, she didn't like him enough (yet!) to spend any length of time in a place where iron was present.

As a local, Old Market business owner herself, she felt it was important to mark the occasion in some way. She sent a rare bottle of scotch (The Empress kept a cache of her own and tabs on who had the good stuff) and a hand-written note congratulating Fin on the opening. The card also contained a wish for good luck, which was more than just empty words as there was a smattering of silver dust on the fine paper; the faerie had worked a little magic upon it.
