Topic: Perchance to Dream: Getting Back What was Lost

Eric had sat there for hours, seemingly days, staring blankly ahead - at the paper on the table before him. He stroked the whiskey bottle in his left hand mindlessly. He was barely there. Barely thinking... or maybe lost in thought. She was gone perhaps never to return. Why hadn't he come earlier? The fear, the panic he felt from the blood tie. He had a sneaking suspicion that something was wrong and he hadn't came. Worst of all, she hadn't even tried to contact him, ask for help. She knew he would come after time, when curiosity had gotten the best of him. He would never leave well alone and she knew that.

He couldn't count how many times he had read her note, sitting at her table of her villa. The villa was the only place he had known to look. She was never one to keep him up to date. The whiskey bottle was nearly half empty, as if he was drunk he could take the news better. It didn't. Maybe even worsened it. Eric ran his right hand over his face, in defeat, as he started to read the note again. Maybe if he read it one more time he could get a better grasp of things... understand how things had gotten so out of hand... how she could have let it.

"Eavenric,

It has seemed that I knew you better than I thought I did. You are there, in my villa, because my emotions have gotten to the best of you. They always did.

I'm... in trouble to say the least, which you have more than likely inferred. I got enslaved. Then broke free. And now I'm going on the run with Claira and Dakota. Dakota Steele. He's my boyfriend, by the way. Yea, things with Damien didn't work out, but that's another story in itself. Don't worry, I wasn't slaved willingly. A black ribbon sealed my fate, incidentally enough. Funny thing, isn't it? It was laced with voodoo like powers. But with help from loved ones here, I broke free. I must run now, for my family. Even though it shows coward es, it's the best thing for us. I have to be the mother. I have to protect them the best way I can - by running.

I have good reasoning behind not telling you. I haven't even told Casidy. I didn't want too many involved that wasn't needed. I didn't want to worry. Most of all, I didn't want to explain you to Dakota. I know I will have to in time, but it's better to leave it until after everything is settled. I know you. You would have complicated the situation further while trying to be my knight in shining armor. I already have one.

Send my regards to Section Five. I haven't made the best Second in Command with everything going on. You might should put Bill back on the job.

I don't know when or if I'll be back. You know me, I'll try my damnedest. And I always come back. So fret not. But this may be my last goodbye. Claira thinks about you still. She wants t go with you in Shiverport after this. If I don't return, Claira will. You know how to get to her if you have to.

So, goodbye, Eavenric. It seems like forever since I said that name. It dances off the tongue as always. But I just wanyed you to know... that I'm sorry I've been so cold.

With Love Forever,
Jadden Elinore Rogue"

His fingers traced her name. She used the name she hated to him. It was a final goodbye. But more importantly, she used his name... a name even he forgot at times and a name he had only ever told her. It proved to him one thing - that through all the trials and hate... she still thought of him. Cared for him.

Eric wanted her. He wanted her so badly in that moment. Just to know if she was safe. Just to know if his little angel, the only child he had thought of as his own, was alright. But he wanted Jade with such passion, intense passion. To touch her, to hold her, to run his hands through her hair, to skim his nails down her sides, to smell the crushed rosebuds in her silken strands of midnight black locks. He got sickening pride from knowing that Jade couldn't bring herself to tell even her new man, even her old men, about him. He was still special to her. A smug sneer crossed his face before it quickly faded as he realized like he did a million times before that no matter how special he was, he'd never... ever have her again. Third rate scum that made her what she was today, that brought her from a strip joint and gave her her life to her. Without him there would be no Jade. No Jade for this Dakota to love. And he knew he did love her.

Blood ties were a tricky thing, a curse and a blessing. He knew when she was in trouble, and he also knew when she was in love. And not with him. Some days he could turn it off, block off the part of her that was in him. Her blood inside him. Other days he couldn't help it. He had to feel her, to see how she was, to have her emotions back with him. But when let her in, he could feel her every shuddered whimper in pleasure. That's what he hated the most.

Eric had given her to him. All of them. He made a half whimpered grunt as he lowered his head, running a hand up his ashen face and through his golden locks. A few stray long strands fell free from his braid that reached to mid-back. They snaked over his shoulders and into his face as his closed fist banged onto the table, in anger, fear, confusion, and defeat, causing a small dent to form in the wood. He worse, throwing his hands in the air.

He stilled growing silent as he heard one sound he hadn't expected; the sound of a key going in the door lock. His cold blues eyes grew wide, his hands falling to his sides from being in the air. It couldn't possibly be a new owner of the villa - the note had stayed intact while Jade was away. Maybe an intruder. But an intruder with a key? Unlikely. Maybe it was... Jade.

Eric jumped up, heading for the door. He grabbed the closest thing he could touch on the counter top. And it was a heavy wooden rolling pin. Oh his little baker never changed. His stance grew fierce as he stood before the quickly unlocking door, gripping the rolling pin just in case it was an intruder, trying not to give his hopes up that it might be her.

The door swung open to reveal a nearly crying Jade rushing into the villa, colliding into Eric himself causing the rolling pin to drop, "Eri-" Those jade hues widened as she tilted her head to look up at him, just as a crimson tear broke free, "Eric! You're here! You're actually here! I was so scared that you wouldn't be. I rushed right over here as soon as I got here. It... it... was horrible!" The only thing that stopped her babbling mess was the whimpered sob that escaped her crimson lips.

His chest tightened at the sight but more so the sound of her crying. Eric brought a hand up to wipe away her tears with his thumb before wrapping his other arm around her. It was her, actually her in his arms again - seeking him for comfort, "I'm here, Jadden. I always will be here. I'm just glad you are her to be with me."

He guided her sobbing face to his chest light to let her have her fill of crying before continuing with any sort of conversation. Eric just held her close. It was the only thing he could do in his state of bewildered amazement.
