"Jade?" setting down the yellowed sketch that she had drawn sometime ago, she sighed. " Why does he haunt my dreams? Who is he? "
Jade pursed her lips and shrugged. " I don't know Rhy. I thought you threw that ragged paper away. Forget him."
Grabbing up the paper, Rhy held it against her chest. " I know him Jade. I do. I dream of him every night. He talks to me. He holds me. I feel his embrace as though he is right next to me. It's so vivid. You've lived so much longer than I. Did you know him? Did you ever know a man with such piercing hazel eyes?"
" Rhy. I've answered this before. No. I don't know him. I never knew him and neither did you."
" But how do I know? I have forgotten so much. My memory, it's not what it was. Maybe I did know him. Maybe you have forgotten!"
"Drop it!" Jade slammed down the book she had in her hand, causing Rhy to jump back. " I said you don't know him."
They had, had this conversation a million times before but Rhy never seemed to be able to take no for an answer. Scowling at Jade, Rhy turned on heel and headed up stairs to their bedroom.
"Why don't I remember you?" Asked softly to the picture, hoping for a reply, although she knew it would not. It hadn't in the past three years she'd been asking that question.
Walking into the bedroom she laid down on the bed, grabbing the sketchbook from the nightstand, nearly every page was filled with drawings of him. Some drawings captured his smile, others were only of his eyes, there were atleast ten of just his hands. Each one had great detail, each one looked alive. She had indeed known this man. The tattered drawing that was nearly carried with her at all times was placed into the book and then it was closed and set aside. Drawing her knees up to her chest, she cried silently. Never in her life had she felt so alone. Little was remembered of her life, only small glimpses of what seemed to be her life, although perhaps they too were just memories of very vivid and real dreams. Jade was in nearly every memory, always Jade. Her life revolved around Jade. Jade was her everything, although at times she didn't know why. She didn't remember a time before Jade and couldn't imagine life without Jade. Scratching her head, she sniffled and sat there, thinking like she had a million times before. There had to be a clue. There had to be something. Grabbing the sketch book she went through the pages again, trying to see if there was some sort of order, maybe there was a time line, a clue, anything that would make sense!
"What's your name."
"Rhy!" Jumping, the book fell on the floor, the spine splitting in half from the pressure. The book was so worn and tattered from the constant attention it received. " Jade... "
"Are you STILL whining about that stupid guy? How many times are you going to cry over this? Seriously. Get a grip. He is no one. He means nothing to you. Move on with your life. Besides, you have me. What more do you need?" Walking over to her, Jade held her face in her hands and leaned down, placing a small kiss on Rhy's forehead. " I'm all you need." Sucking in her own bottom lip, Rhy nodded slowly, her eyes seemingly locked onto Jade's. " I know. You're my everything Jadey."
"That's right. The only person you need. The only person who loves you and protects you. I'll never leave you Rhy." Leaning down Jade's lips graced over Rhy's cheek and then down along her neck, licking up each tear that had streamed down her face and then Rhy felt it, the graze of teeth, the flicking of Jade's frantic tongue.
" It is yours to take Jade." Rhy tilted her neck to the side and Jade's fangs sank in. It hurt everytime, but it was always coupled with the feeling of bliss. The feeling of tranquility flooded Rhy's head and after only a few moments, she relaxed and laid back onto the bed. Her body felt as if it weighed a thousands pounds, she could hardly turn her head to watch as Jade left the room, though she managed with some effort. Her eyes moved over Jade's backside as she left and then came back to stare at her own limp hand that laid across the bed. One.. two... three...five. Where had finger number four gone? Why didn't she have a ring finger? It had been there, she was sure of it. Heavy eyes closed, she was always tired after Jade fed from her. But, this time a familiar yet distant feeling caressed her to sleep. It was warm, it was loving, it seemed to be trying to erase all of her pain. She had the strangest tingle in the spot where her ring finger should be and then she fell asleep.
