The early morning hours had a sleep deprived, stomping, angry Lain striding through the glen with a purpose. In her fist was clutched a small piece of paper and through her knuckles, the chain and jewel of Yami's necklace could be seen sparkling in the dim light breaking through the trees.

She'd looked, come up with nothing. She'd sensed, come up with nothing. She even went so far as to ask around, albeit not very much, and come up with nothing. So the only choice left was to leave the thing with a note of explanation on her doorstep and mildly hope it found its way into the right hands. Lain would be lying to herself if she said she cared whether it found other paths.

She'd been questioning her decision an hour before she set out, wondering why she didn't just find Alex, shove the fricken thing back into his chest, shriek 'You find'jer own damn wife' and just let it be. Lain didn't have any doubts that he would be doing the same thing. The thought didn't even cross her mind that he would hold onto it as some sort of keepsake or memoir from the mistake this whole fiasco of a marriage was. She did, however, wonder if he'd kept some of the stuff she'd left him..

Shaking away that depressing thought, her emotional roller coaster began shifting back to anger as she saw the small abode dot the horizon. Within moments of her long, hard stride, she reached the door, located a rock, set the nail to the paper and the door's surface and pounded it into the wood. The necklace was left to hang and dangle freely without any security.

"Maybe I should.." A look was given to the rock in hand, then the necklace... and back. She'd thought about smashing it many times, but doing so now would be a wasted trip, and she'd rather have it be stolen by someone that could use it for something better. The stone tossed over her shoulder, she shoved her hands in her pockets and began to retrace her steps back to the inn.

The hanging note, in untidy script, reads:

To Cat, or whoever finds this:

Don't even think about getting pissy with me over the fact that I called you that. I call them like I see them.

Your necklace is here, or perhaps someone ganked it, not that I care. Alex asked me to find you and give it back, but since you off and split with your tail between your legs (get it?), I was forced to find other means of communication.

He wanted me to tell you that it's over between you both. That he's sorry for leading you on, and he believes that nipping this thing in the bud before you get too fricken gushy over him would be the best thing to do. He doesn't want marriage, never did. And is being rather courteous to you by trying to end the whole deal now. End of discussion, topic closed.

By all legal reasoning, I shouldn't hate you. But I do. And since I'm taking time out of my day, I'll tell you why. YOU are the sole reason why things between us weren't fixed. You. You showed up. Wormed your way in, and drove a wedge in that part of our lives that can never be removed. Call it denial, call it fear of change, call it whatever you want. It's your fault. And I will always believe it to be so.

Have a nice life.
