The man walked into the place. It was quite deserted like this during the day. He wore a white overcoat and under his arm was a medium sized box wrapped in black and alien foil, bound with gold chains. Locked up tight with a diamond encrusted padlock with no visible key too it. The fact that he walked in alone and nothing of a security system even bothered to go off was a feat all on its own. The man scanned the place with his pale blue eyes and smiled, it was still as nice as he remembered it to be. Then he heard footsteps approaching him.
"Welcome to Club Babylon, sir. Um, we'll be open tonight, do you perhaps have an appointment with the owners of the place." She asked, even after hours the staff was still required to dress the part of being a professional and he smiled. Despite this man's odd appearance here in the club and the fierce aura he seemed to be giving off was giving her the chills for reasons she could not explain she would do her best to not run in terror.
The man smiled at her, so slightly and even though it was polite, it made her hair on the back of her neck stand up. She'd encountered all kinds of terrible things coming here to indulge in their secret unknowable pleasures, but this man she was reacting to as none of those customers, not even the most sadistic monsters that came in. Perhaps it was the fact that she didn't know anything about him. Maybe it was those piercing and dead eyes that did it to her. "No, No appointment, thanks for asking though. The owners and I, well we used to get along back in the day. I had to take an unexpected leave and didn't have a chance to say goodbye. I am only here for a short time and am sad that I am going to miss her completely." He said, saying everything, yet at the same time nothing at at all and the cryptic nature of his words just made her feel all the worse.
She looked at him then the box under his arm. "A package, all deliveries have to go through security and--" She was cut off as his eyes met hers and she felt some old part of her genetic memory scream, the past unknown to her was screaming at her to stop talking. This terror came through her as if she'd always been afraid of the chaos that lurked in some unknowable place in her mind and it was just now coming to the surface for the very first time and she took a step back. "Security won't be needed, dear. This is no bomb or weapon. That is the mark of a coward, striking without warning and hiding in the dark. No, dear I enjoy a more direct approach," He said and she never saw it but the man, if it was a man at all was instantly closer to her and she never saw him move in her paralyzing fear. He put his hand on her face and she dropped to her knees at once, giving in to the primal terror that ate at her soul finally.
"Be a good girl and give this to Rose, will you? It won't open up to anyone but her, she's always been the key to so many things." He said and walked past her silently to the counter and set the box there. "Y--yes I will promise." She said, trying to get her words out of her mouth with great effort.
"Good. I trust you." He said, took one last look around and smiled again, approving of the place as he walked back towards the door. "Wait, I didn't get your name." She asked him in a hurry, the failure on her part would have cost her the job she needed in more ways than one. The man stopped and looked over his shoulder then.
"I am Malik...Malik Blue. I don't think I will be coming here again. You were a brave little girl. I respect that you had the conscious mind to ask me my name." He said and turned around with a smile. "Would you like to make a deal?" He asked her then and she somehow found the strength to stand, as if the question granted her unnatural courage, perhaps on loan? "Deal, what kind of--" He cut her off. "Anything you want, for something I may want in return someday. Like a demonic deal but far more complicated." He said and got to the point.
Riches flashed through her mind, gold and powers, the imagination reeled with impossible things for a moment, but then she realized the old stories, the ones the used to float down the street on quiet whispers in run down, moldy buildings of the West end. The deal maker, the monster and horror of Rhydin, something of a legend. A terrible urban legend and she took a step back and knew his name, his true name. "No, but thank you for asking." She said politely and he smiled. "Smart girl. Deals only complicate things anyway." He said with a laugh and walked towards the door but disappearing before he could exit.
She took a deep breath in and had to reach out to grab a chair to steady herself for a moment. When she was ready she stood up and walked to the box on the counter but dared not touch it. She was smart enough to know that sometimes things were better off not messed with. She walked to the phone and slowly picked it up, not knowing what she would say or how to say it. She dialed the number anyway.
"Hello, Someone was just here. I need to talk to Rose. Now!" She said into the phone. "No, listen you don't understand. Someone was here. He left a package--" She was cut off by someone on the other end. "Damn it he said he wanted to make a deal!" This phrase changed everything, the mood of the conversation turned. "I understand. I'll close up everything until she gets here, I won't touch the package I didn't plan to anyway." She said. "Yes. I understand how important this could be. Don't worry. I'll activate it all if I need to." She said and hung the phone up and looked at the alien package sitting there on the bartop then and could only wonder what was left inside.
Until then she had to wait until the higher ups came, protecting the box with her life, as it the one on the other end of the phone ordered her to do so she freed the Cosmic fire shotgun from under the bar, checked if it was loaded, and it was and waited anxiously for them to show up.
