Jewell was in a foul mood the entire night, though she was a master at hiding such things by now. Having walked in on Renna assaulting Skyler in the alley, it was to be expected. She had tried to make it very clear to that witch that she was to stay away from him--was absolutely furious that she had dared to touch him to begin with. A little territorial? Hell yeah.

She was not under some illusion that she could beat Renna in a fight. Far from it. But she would try make her bleed if it came down to it.

Her shift at work went by pretty fast, the Inn being busy enough to hold her attention. She tried to stay near Skyler as much as possible as he seemed upset to some degree but he wandered out when she was distracted much to her dismay.

The night went from bad to worse after that.

She had been keeping an eye on Julie as it seemed like some man she thought she had seen the other night was bothering her. She stepped on over to them only to hear him threatening her, talking as if Julie belonged to him. Then the poor fool made the biggest mistake of his life and slapped Julie...with the Empress standing right there!

She was over the bar in a second, pushing the man towards the door and screaming at him--giving him a chance to run for his life. He took a swing at her but Jewell was too hyped up, too on edge, to let some pushover get a hit in. He left after she gave him another push toward the door.

She turned her attention to Julie, making sure she was okay before convincing her to come stay at the Villa for the night at least. Out they went together, Jewell in a bit of a hurry to get Julie to the house and settled in.

Once that was done she was out of the house again despite the late hour, picking up a knife or five on the way out the door. She was invisible in the night, sticking to the shadows, hiding that natural glow of her skin, and walking as silently as only the fey can.

She re-traced her steps back to towards the Inn, planning to head towards Cosmo Beach from there. She was worried about Skyler, furious with herself for letting him just up and leave drunk and probably disturbed by the night's events. She would wander the streets all night until she made sure he was all right.

Skyler

He made it all way home, wandering aimlessly, but still managing to end up at Cosmo Beach. The estate seemed empty tonight. Most of the inside lights were off, and none of the residents were anywhere to be seen.

Skyler?s head was swimming. He?d had too much to drink. Two Long Island Ice Teas gulped down in a row would render most people stupid, himself included. He circled around to the back of the house, inhaling the fresh, rejuvenating sea breeze.

As enticing as the sea was, the hot tub ? its still, steaming waters glimmering invitingly ? was even more so. He stripped off every stitch of clothing and stood still a moment, allowing his body to shiver in the chilly breeze. The wind had a sobering effect. Finally, butt naked, he eased down into the steamy water and hit the button to ignite the jets. The surface began to bubble like boiling lava, as Skyler eased down into the warmth, eyelids slipping closed.

There was a big, relaxed smile on his face. In fact, he was so relaxed that he wasn?t aware of how far down into the hot tub he was slipping. His head was the only part of his body that was above the water, floating on the surface.

Something was missing, though. As content as he was at the moment, something was surely missing. Jewell. He?d left the inn without her. Stupid. You?d forget your head if it wasn?t attached. Damn, how nice it would be to have Jewell in the hot tub with him. Too bad there wasn?t anything to do about it now. He?d never make it all the way back to the Inn to fetch her. But, mercy, how great it would be wrap her up in his arms and hold her as the water bubbled around them?

Skyler let out a breathy sigh, fantasizing about Jewell as he soaked in the hot tub, growing drowsy. Once, his face slipped under the surface. When he tried to inhale he only sucked in hot water, but he easily coughed it out and pushed himself up a bit. Yet, inevitably, he was aware of slipping further down into the embrace of the hot, relaxing, soothing water. In the back of his mind he told himself he wouldn't stay in much longer, but, for the moment, he would just lay there and rest...

She made it all the way to Cosmo Beach without finding him, relief and mild apprehension curling inside her. She was relieved she hadn't found him just lying in the street somewhere but was concerned that she hadn't found him all the same.

Arriving at Cosmo Beach, she wandered the estates perimeter in absolute silence. Finding him relaxing in the hot tub was a surprise. She stood in the shadow of the house, annoyed with herself for having been so worried and finding him fine.

Well...apparently fine until she saw his head go under. She started forward but stopped as he came up coughing water out. She stepped back into the shadow to watch him some more. She was trying to calm herself down before she approached him, the night had her wound up so tight.

She considered disrobing and just sliding into the water beside him. The water always called to her and so did he. Yet, she was denied her romantic surprise to him as she saw his head start to slip under again. She mumbled something about "idiot" and "sitting in a hot tub when drunk" as she left the shadows and approached the hot tub quietly.

Jewell stepped up behind him, kneeling down and setting her hands on his shoulders to pull him up and keep his face out of the water at least. There was nothing rough about her manner, though she was still annoyed in general. As she pulled him up she dropped her mouth to his ear, "Sky, you gotta wake up love."

Skyler

When he first heard Jewell?s voice, Skyler thought he was dreaming. He blinked upward, seeing her face hovering over him to the backdrop of a starry night sky. A lazy smile spread across his face. If he couldn?t have Jewell there with him, he supposed that dreaming about her was the next best thing.

Her touch on his shoulders quickly dispelled that notion. He wasn?t dreaming. Jewell was right there, at his house. She?d come to him. Vaguely he began to wondered that if he wished for a new motorcycle, one would appear right beside him. That thought quickly vanished. The boy was suddenly filled with a longing for Jewell that was beyond description.

?J-Bug, I love you,? he slurred drunkenly.

Then his hands shot up violently from the water, lancing toward Jewell like tentacles shooting out for a Japanese school girl. They grabbed the fabric of her clothes on her shoulders and yanked her into the Jacuzzi. After she popped up from the water, he situated Jewell?s body directly in front of his, handling her with care and gentle confidence. He spread his legs apart and pulled her back between them, snaking his arms around her waist and perching his chin on her collarbone.

Skyler brushed back strands of wet hair from her ear, whispering softly. ?Thanks for saving me tonight, baby.? That statement, contrary to his previous one, came out quite clearly. He stopped speaking long enough to place a trail of hot wet kisses along the curve between her neck and shoulder. ?I probably could have taken her, though.? This comment was obviously a jest. She seemed a little tense tonight, and he wanted to put her at ease.

Overhead, the moon and stars twinkled down at them, disappearing and reappearing amidst the striated clouds that tumbled across the night sky in the cool fall winds. Sitting in their sanctuary of hot water, Skyler held his Empress tightly. He would caress her scalp, massage her shoulders, and whisper sweet things into her ear.

She uttered a little sigh of relief when he focused his eyes on her. His words, although slurred, bringing a smile to her face. She loved being his J-bug, loved hearing those words from him.

There were a ton of things she could have said at the moment ranging from "I love you too" to "I was worried about you." All she got out, though, was an "ack" as she found herself being pulled into the hot tub. She wasn't even given the satisfaction of getting out an indignant "Skyler!" as she came up sputtering.

Nope, all she got to do was take a sharp intake of air to prepare for a little rant against him before he had his arms wrapped around her. Always the weakling for any sort of physical touch and affection, she simply couldn't resist sinking back against him.

She gave another faint sigh, this time from being totally content in his arms. Who cared that her leather pants were probably ruined, that her meshy shirt clinging to her skin awkwardly, that the knives hidden strategically on her form could possibly rust if she didn't dry them correctly later or that just moments ago she was still seething with the desire to kill two people. It all simply flew from her flighty little mind and all she could think of was herself, Skyler, the hot tub and one of the most gorgeous nights ever.

He brought the memory of the evening's events back to her with his thanks, her shoulders tensing up just a little. Yet again, he put her at ease. His kisses had writhing slightly before him as she made a light purr-like sound--all that time spent with those of a feline nature and the Vixen was wearing off on her. She even laughed a little at his jesting, even if the idea of him fighting Renna would make her physically ill, "I know you could, love. I just get over-protective at times."

Her own tone was light, jesting in return. They could have a serious conversation about Renna another time but not now. The now was given up to the absolute enjoyment of the other's presence with heated touches and whispered endearments.
