Lying by your side I watch you sleeping
And in your face the sweetness of a child
Murmuring the dreams you won't recapture
Though it will haunt the corners of you mind

Theodore was lying on his side, his chin cupped in the palm of the arm whose elbow he was propped up on. Smooth, marbled pectorals shone in the moonlight that filtered through a bedroom window. Warm pools of yellow half-glowed in the dim lightning, looming like a predator?s watchful gaze. Theo knew Ariahn wasn?t delicate, but he felt like what little remained between them was fragile enough that one wrong step would send her spiraling downward and out of control.

I've Lost you though you're near me
And your body's still this kind
I've lost you on a journey,
But I can't remember where or when

He had no idea what happened in that room, between the Tigress and her captors. All he knew for certain was somewhere back there, he lost her. Almost. She came back, and he thought for him, but Theodore saw the lingering mistrust and fear in the back of her eyes. It broke his heart in two when she looked at him like that.

Who can tell when summer turns to autumn
And who can point the moment love grows cold
Softly without pain the joy is over
Though why it's gone will neither of us know

Cold, dexterous fingertips extended tentatively to run along the sleeping contour of the Tigress. He sunk his fingertips into her warmth, closing his eyes briefly to bask in it. But the fire wasn?t as wild as usual; whether that was because of Ariahn being asleep or because of what happened was debatable.

Oh, I've lost you yes, I've lost you
I can't reach you anymore
We ought to talk it over now
But reason can't stand in for feeling, oh

Theo didn?t know where to begin anymore, how to access her and reignite the flames within. He felt useless, helpless, and guilty. If only he?d been faster, or done more, perhaps worked less? He sighed, withdrawing his hand as he opened his eyes to continue his study of her.

?Oh, Ariahn,? a velvety whisper of pain, ?Tell me how to bring you back, and make everything alright.?

Oh I've lost you, oh, I've lost you
Oh, You won't admit it so
I've lost you on a journey,
But I can't remember where or when no more

?I?ll always be here,? he murmured, leaning across the bed to press his form against the contours of her back. One arm slid around her side, curling there protectively as cool lips met with the graceful curve of her maw. His eyes closed again and he inhaled deeply, breathing in her essence in remembrance, as if he?d never get the chance again.

He just wanted to remember, how it was, how to make it be again.

Oh, I've lost you yes, I've lost you
I can't reach you anymore
We ought to talk it over now
But reason can't stand in for feeling, oh

The issue had been skirted with delicate care, as Theodore was afraid to burst the thin membrane of the topic. Scared that she?d hate him, blame him, leave him. He hadn?t felt this whole in so long, it was like an ache in his chest each time he tried to reach out to her. Was it the rejection or the feeling of love long lost?

He couldn?t tell anymore. Constantly he yearned for her, to be close again like before.

Oh, I've lost you yes, I've lost you
I can't reach you anymore
We ought to talk it over now
But reason can't stand in for feeling, oh

?I?m going to make it better, even if it?s the last thing I do,? he murmured drowsily against the soft flesh of her shoulder. Selfish as it was, he was determined to hold onto the good and hope for the best.

TigerEye Charms

In the dark of the night every touch felt like another broken heart, another severed cord of her affections. His whispers came to her ears as his touch left her feeling like she was home again.

So terrified of it all. Of pulling together the pieces of her broken mind. Deep down she knew it was never him that it was just the manipulations of her mind that made her believe it was him.

She stirred in his arms, a careful adjustment as her body pressed to the smooth contours of his skin, remembering the feel of him against her, within her, all around her.

The tiger green-gold of her eyes closed as she breathed in and took in the scent of him. Something that never was there when Karma and Taboo had assaulted her, the smell of Theodore. No matter what they did they couldn't duplicate his smell.

She was quiet for the longest time, trying to find the words to make everything right. Ariahn was far from weak but she had never felt this broken or torn before. It made her wonder if being brought back was the best choice.

Part of her would always come back for him. She loved him but that was hardly the place to begin.

If she began with the I love you he would wait for the 'but' to come after.

Her voice was rough, the ever present smoky growl in the darkness as she chose her words carefully and quietly as a beast hunting in the long grass.

"They made me believe... that you killed me. They did something to me, and I'm trying to make it stop. I don't want to lose you... but I fear I'm pushing you away. There's so much... wrong with me."

A close of eyes as her voice fell silent, and the first time in what felt like eternity she realized that the hot tracks burning down her skin was not of fire but a trail of tears.
