This thread is for Out of Character questions or comments, explanations, or other information about the stories taking place here.

Dark Lake Manor is an open story board. Everyone is welcome to post here.

All of the stories, characters, and NPC s in this folder have almost no boundaries and can be considered open to everyone to interact with. As long as your writing even peripherally involves the Dark Lake or the residents there, and as long you can make it somewhat plausible, feel free to join in any thread or start your own!

If you?re going to metagame off something I've written here, there are three conditions:

1)Get it right. No matter how detailed, chat logs, profiles, wiki entries and posts do not tell you everything there is to know about a situation. If you?re not sure you understand what you?ve read, ask before you screw things up by acting on an incorrect assumption.

2)Have a reasonable explanation. At the time you put your metagamed information into play, show how your character came by that information ? and understand that I get to decide if your explanation is reasonable or not.

3)Respect the characters. Don?t attempt to use metagamed information to force some non-consensual adverse roleplay on me. If you're attempting to use that information to threaten, control, incapacitate, imprison, or kill off my character, I?m not likely to go along with it.

Thanks for sharing. :D

::raises her hand:: I have one question. Did you really want to be a Barmaid? If not let me know and I'll "fire" you. ;)

I admit it was just one of those :click - ?? uh oh: experiments, but is there a reason I shouldn't be a barmaid? :o

LOL! You can be a Barmaid if you want to. :)

I've really been enjoying the "Exile" threads. I find Alysia to be one of the most interesting characters present in our world of RhyDin.

I just wanted to thank Lord Ayreg, with whom it is an honor to write and roleplay with and without whom the Exile: Hunted story would not have turned out nearly so well.

In light of a recent, interesting, and very thought-provoking discussion over on the Dragon?s Mark OOC boards (Dragon?s Mark Forum Index > The Round Table > Respecting Boundaries) --

All* of the stories, characters, and NPC s in this folder have almost no boundaries and can be considered open to everyone to interact (and interfere) with.

If you think your character has some way of knowing of the events referenced herein, without having directly observed with them, that?s fine. Really. If you want your character to jump into the thick of things, whether in writing here or live in the Red Dragon Inn, go for it! I won?t be offended.

Please use common sense and courtesy - if you?re going to try to powergame or god-mode with the intent of permanently altering a character here, you can expect probably not to succeed, at least not without checking with the player of that character first. But as long as it?s reasonably believable, I?m game and willing to try to play things out.

*One exception here is Alysia?s journal entries. Obviously. :)

The words in ?Alysia?s Journal - Long way to go? are from the song Long Long Way to Go, by W. Hector and S. Robson, off Def Leppard ?X?. I have been listening to that CD almost nonstop the past week, and it just occurred to me that those lyrics fit Alysia?s frame of mind at the moment.

To be evil and Mercy were thrown together from chat logs the night of 11/13/06. The former was almost entitled Am I Evil because that bit of lyric was going through my head from the second I saw Taneth?s soul-searching. The rest of the song didn't jive, though.

And except for what?s referenced with Taneth, there?s not a lot of character development or plot advancement in either of these two, but it gave me an opportunity to come up with something slightly less angsty and emo than the stuff I?ve been writing lately.

Besides, I thoroughly enjoyed the roleplay and banter last night.

I?ve taken some liberties with the dialogue and action to try to make it flow better. Sorry if I skewed what anyone intended!

The Scorchtree Goblin Clan has discovered a particularly rich vein of crimsor buried near the eastern border of Shayltan and is setting up mining operations, where, I am assured, there will be no whistling whilst working, and no hi-hos, either. Chieftain Burntsnout is most eager to provide us with the refined product, doubtless because I've got his son, Snuffle, as a hostage ? let's make that ?page?, shall we? ? in young Inestial's Court.

I ROFfled at the whole damn post, but that just doubles me over. Every time I read it.

Doing some housekeeping on the folder. Cleaned up all the scattered Alysia's Journal entries and compiled them into a sticky for the sake of convenience.

In regards to "Subtracting one of nine lives" let me just say a big thank you and wow to Kitty and Alysia. That is one SL that keeps escaping me, as Veighn's player and I never seem to run into each other anymore, and due to graduate school being one huge nightmare, posting has not been a priority lately. I do want to do something with it, and the article in The Oracle was hilarious (Thanks Des!)... But there is a lot to catch up on and I admit to typing my name in the Search box to see what came up!

I want to bring some more attention to a situation that's troubling on a number of levels. Members of this community are leaving over this issue.

http://www.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1434

While the incident that prompted this discussion is being mentioned only in a general sense, the problems that led to it remain. Stalking and/or harassment of the players here is never ok.

Please post your thoughts there.

The thread "Deal With a Devil / The Devil You Know" (and the forthcoming responses) represent my take on a chat log from 3/16/07.

I've moved some responses around and deleted others to try to keep things flowing. I also added a few sentences to try to flesh out perspective. If any of the participants are offended by my liberal editing, let me know and I'll modify accordingly.

Thanks to everyone who played in the Red Dragon Inn that night. It was a lot of fun to watch!

Bravo! ::applauds.:: You have done an excellent job! Thank you so much!

I have heard that there are a few people involved in a storyline related to Av?sa-n?ru over in The Scathachian Sanctuary who can't - or won't - understand what exactly is happening in those posts and how it came to be.

I take accusations of meta-gaming and god-moding pretty seriously, and I'm sorry if I offended. All they had to do was ask -- or wait for the rest to be revealed -- and trust that I wouldn't steamroll things.

Trust is a rare commodity, it seems. Almost as rare as communication. Or cooperative RP, for that matter.

I'm dismayed that these people are more willing to complain to third parties than to ask me directly what's going on, but okay, I'll play along.

I've requested that thread be locked. I hate to retcon on this level, but because I can acknowledge I did unwittingly step on a few toes there, the events described in those posts never happened. You can go about your business. Move along.

Hopefully the thread won't be deleted. I hope some people will still be entertained by the writing, and it is still useful in that it helps paint a picture (no matter how obscure) of Avasa-Nuru as the darker side of Alysia Skye.

Avasa-Nuru is not going away any time soon.

Happy gaming.

The events of Fairy Tales took place in live RP in the Red Dragon Inn on the evening of 8/26/07.

The whole thing was a lot shorter until I decided I should explain a bit more of Tacrya the Fat's history, to help flesh her out as Alysia's erstwhile nemesis back in Rhilshen. So, I went back and added some stuff in.

A whole lot of stuff, actually.

It gets kind of preachy, but everything there was necessary to take things from Point A to Point B. Sorry 'bout that.

Price for peace was another one written from live RP in the Red Dragon Inn, probably sometime in early September, 2007.

Company and Conversation is another one that was taken from live RP in the Red Dragon Inn - I think on November 1, 2007.

I have to admit, I initially started writing it up in response to Boudicca?s post, New Neighbor, which was rather surprising as her descriptions were pretty different from what I thought happened in RP that night. I guess everyone perceives things differently.

But as I was going through the chat log, I realized that I really enjoyed the conversations that night, first with RDI Falcon, then with Amber Cartwrite, and Kalen Finn Valari. I hadn?t had much of a chance to roleplay with before with Amber or Kalen before and had a great time learning a bit about the characters.

Amber is the best Rhydin dwarf character to watch ? ever!

That way madness lies was pulled together from live RP in the Red Dragon Inn on the evening of 1/18/08. It's kind of a continuation of Alysia's crazy conversations with her reflection in Devil's Advocate.

Given my crazy schedule of late, I'm finding that using play-by-email RP to build dialogue and nudge storylines forward line-by-line actually works.

The Aderion Heir is the result of some recent play-by-email and IM RP with the player of Tristan Aderion.

The Fall of Tacrya thread was originally posted on another forum over the course of several months. Chronologically, it takes place in late summer of 2007. It starts out kind of silly, but it was fun to drag out some old characters for the scene.

Although the story takes place in Rhilshen instead of Rhydin, I?m copying it here to give some background (albeit obscure) on how Alazais came into being. Similar tales involving Llehlnia and Orodreth will be posted later. . . time permitting, of course. :D

It's Complicated was co-written with Chryrie Nightstar and just kind of came together over a couple of nights in the Red Dragon Inn.

Much thanks to the host of players who made last night's RP in the Red Dragon Inn interesting and entirely unexpected: Fiona DeAuster, Chryrie Nightstar, Tara Rynieyn, Lord Veighn Yhaull, Guthorm Othinsson, Sylvia Nightshade, Arron Silver, Scarab, Zev Zayveon, Jolie Wilde, Antonio Falconne, Elessaria, and of course Panther. And anyone else I forgot due to the late (early!!) hour.

My apologies for turning into a total zombie around 1:30 AM. . . I was up way past my bedtime, kind of falling asleep over the keyboard, and it totally showed. But it was fun.

Thanks, very much, for including me in this Eve. I apologize for my slow-sends as I was a little distracted here on my end and I feel kinda awful about that given what you and I discussed on your blog recently LOL

Still catching up with stuff being back and I need to stop letting the IMs overrule my play :) So that's that.

This war is a HUGE deal and I sincerely hope that you guys play it out a little bit. If I cannot be included in all the scenes, etc I would very much like to see the whole thing in logs or whatever when you are finished.

I just have a question, when this is all finished, if they kiss/make up, are you going to have Alysia send Veighn one of your oldie Non Aggression Treaties? LMAO

Do you still have them?

Fiona DeAuster

Thank you Alysia player for the compliment. :) I enjoyed the play and even though you have said:

My apologies for turning into a total zombie around 1:30 AM. . . I was up way past my bedtime, kind of falling asleep over the keyboard, and it totally showed. Embarassed But it was fun.

I couldn't tell in the least. I for one found the play enjoyable, intense and made for some great interaction that led to even more. Hopefully, we shall see further inspiration from it!

Thank you again!

Hi Alysia,

Thanks for the thanks. I had SO much fun watching the scene unfold, and to read over your latest posts with excerpts was excellent - I agree with Fiona, the scene was intense and exciting to watch.

I enjoyed being able to give Jolie over to a wider group of people, those in Guthorm's life and those she has met before, as Bjorn as she fondly calls him and her, have a story of their own, and it fascinates me how easily various stories intertwine together..

Thanks for the opportunity to have my character develop if only in a small way, and even if it was an indirect bonus to a great scene, it was enjoyed by me.

Alysia Skye

You are now my enemy, and I am yours is a shortened rendition of several hours worth of RP from the Red Dragon Inn on 5/16/08 - 5/17/08. There was a lot more I wanted to include, like some of Fiona?s and Tara?s dialogue; Panther?s pointed comments about remembering whose ?house? certain people were in, the scene with Guthorm, Sylvia, and Jolie; and the spell-slinging fireworks between Veighn, Chryrie, and Scarab. I left those out to try to pare things down to the most crucial elements and to try to keep with a sort of theme.

And yes, I still have all those god-awful Non Aggression Pacts, Tara. :P We?ll see if they come into play or not.

Thank you Alysia, for the kind words. It was a great RP night, and I really enjoyed everything that was going on. I'm also glad you posted the more direct scene that was the crux of the event. It allows me to enjoy the great interplay again.

I am anticipating the posts of the after event, too!

Trust and provocation is kind of an archive story. It was taken from a very old AOL chat log dated 10/13/96, with of course Elvenhone and other such memorable figures as KashFlame and La Sarala. It's the "long ago conference" referenced in Alysia's Journal entry of 18.05.2008.

Alysia

This storyline is suffocating, frustrating, tense, well written. I'm itchin' to know the outcome.

To see a strong, vital personality in chains makes for one helluva tagline.

The demonstrations of each characters perspective and the waning patience is excellent play.

Keep bringin' it on.

The conclusion to You are now my enemy, and I am yours was written with guidance from the player of Lord Veighn Yhaull and was approved by him before posting. It's not the most elegant way to wrap things up, but it touches (if vaguely) upon most of what needed to be addressed. I guess I don't have the attention span or the patience for protracted forum RP, particularly when it takes my character out of play, and I really didn't want it to drag on another month.

Thanks to all who participated.

Demonspawn was originally written in July, August and September of 1997. OLD! It was probably originally posted on either the Rhilshen Fortress board or the Keep de LiVed board back on AOL. Maybe both, since it was intended to tie together some storylines between the two boards.

I saw some parallels and similarities between this situation from long ago and the more recent You are now my enemy, so I dragged it out and dusted it off. I've fixed some typos, reworded some of the dialogue, and added a few paragraphs to improve the clarity. Most of it's still very self-indulgent and cringe-worthy, though.

It probably shouldn't have taken me so long to finish off the short series of Oblivion posts (eight+ months?!), especially since I knew where I wanted it to go, but between writer's block and the demands of offline life, I haven't done a lot of writing or roleplaying lately. However, I thought I'd try to get back in the habit for NaNoWriMo -- and I thought to start with wrapping up the most recent loose end.

Nice use of first person in Metamorphosis to help us feel what Alysia is going through rather than just seeing it as observers.
