?I?m sorry, John.? Roxxie said distractedly. ?I?m going to have to cut this short.?

Sweaty and red-faced, John looked at her, his eyes narrowing ? either in anger or due to the sting of the sweat rolling into them. ?Is it the money? I know you?re giving me a break, but I can pay more??

Roxxiandra Rhodes rolled her own amber eyes back at him. ?It?s not the money, John? I just have something? some one else on my mind. In fact, I?ll even refund what you?ve paid me so far today. Hey, cheer up, there?s always next week, right?? She gave him a smile that could melt damn near anyone?s aggressions. ?Unless of course, your wife has finally figured out what you?ve been up to...? Her tone teased him, pushing all the right buttons.

John huffed angrily and lifted his weight with his arms, then got up to his feet. ?No, she hasn?t? I swear she?s as dumb as a box of rocks sometimes.?

Roxxi lifted a perfectly plucked brow at him and his insult of his wife. Being the strong woman she was, she was never too keen on men putting women down; but she let this one pass. ?Go on, get out of here, you can shower elsewhere.?

******

Forty-five minutes later, Roxxi was stepping out of her own shower, one that did little to wash her mind free of the thoughts that had been burdening her. She looked into the mirror as she towel dried her hair and gave her self a pep talk:

?Alright Rox ? Time to get your act together. You can?t be sloughing off business that way, not over some?. guy.?

?Its not some guy.? Said her reflection. ?It?s Skid.?

?He?s still just a guy, just like the many others that have come and gone through our life.?

?You really think he?s like the others??

?No, not exactly ??

?He?s nothing like the others, Roxxi.? The reflection cut her off and scowled at the still wet brunette.

?Oh Jeez? Shut the hell up already?? Roxxi turned away from her reflection, completely convinced it would be sticking its tongue out at the back of her head. ?I know, and that?s exactly what scares me. I mean? How do you take a pool cue to something like what he has going on? You can?t!?

Roxxi then took the advice she had given her reflection, and shut up. She still had business to attend to.

Gauzy white linen billowed gracefully in the gentle breeze blowing through the whitewashed French Doors. Chanson La Vie considered itself to be the premier spa of society's upper echelons, hence the reason the breeze could be simulated, via small ducts on the door frame, on days when nature wouldn't cooperate.

Roxxi thought it a nice touch, adding to the softness and overall appeal of the suite she'd been inhabiting for a month now. Was it really a month? The trip was supposed to be a weekend away from her clients? and Skid. A few days to clear her head of lingering thoughts she had no right to have. Funny how a month hadn't done it.

It was starting to tick her off, really. In 28 years of life, she'd avoided any emotional connections to just about every male to come her way; human or otherwise. It wasn't that she had anything against emotional attachments, it was the simple fact that there had yet to be anyone that could really hold her interest. There were even days where she wondered if there was something seriously wrong with her that she hadn't ever "fallen". So what was it about Skid that kept bringing her back around to him?

Even though the mystery was still unsolved, Rox know she couldn't hide out much longer. She had a client list a mile long, and if she had any left after this hiatus, she needed to get back to them.

The sigh she released blew the chestnut hair away from her face, just as the curtains were sucked back out the French doors. Symbolic, she thought. Seeing Skid again was either going to take her breath away? or suck the life out of her.
