PJ and the Demon Child

Loiselle really was pretty amazing, serene, and beautiful and inspiring, yet there was the undeniable feeling that PJ simply didn?t belong there. She was a street kid, a thief, a master in the art of breaking and entering and a down and out bar brawler. She was nowhere near nobility; and Loiselle definitely screamed of wealth, power, grace, elegance and refinement. On that particular checklist, there wasn?t a one PJ could mark off.

Amal would certainly fit in there, that Queen Tele lady or Topaz might too, but PJ? She couldn?t really figure out why Arithon would want her there at all. Why not someone more on his level?

Ari definitely had an affect on PJ. Around him she felt the urge to behave, not brawl, not cuss, and not brawl. Belching? That was right out the window.

The trip to Loiselle had been nice though, despite PJ?s nervousness. A short time after being on the road and PJ was starting to relax, she had even dozed off at some point, resting comfortably against Ari.

By the second night however, all the effort of behaving was getting to her and the stress level was high. She stole out and headed back for the Arena. She?d be able to get a couple of bottles of booze and stash them in her room at Loiselle, thereby ensuring the ability to sneak in a couple unwinding drinks before bed without letting Ari find out.

Nothing ever went as planned for PJ though. No sooner had she strolled in the doors with a Desi Arnez style ?Lucy? I?m hooooome!? than the turmoil of the night began. So much of what had been going on with the wraiths and Jenia was over PJ?s head, but the fact that Lily, Hell spawn of Shakira had at least some role in it wasn?t. PJ was petrified by the girl, had been since they had met and wanted nothing more than for her to just disappear. PJ even went so far as to tell her such.

Lily?s reaction scared and spurned PJ into action, as frightened as she was, PJ thought perhaps if she could at least distract Lily, Rory, Amal and the others might at least catch a break and be okay for a while.

How was PJ to know Lily would take it to heart? By the end of the night, PJ was headed back to Arithon and Loiselle, her new ?step daughter? in her lap and a numbing fear in her stomach.

It had taken some time to set in ... The early morning picture, everyone's opinions, her own thoughts on the whole screwed up matter. She wanted to think she wasn't hurt, she told herself she wasn't. It was just one of those things that happen, right? People cheat. She knew just bailing on Rix without talking to him first wasn't too cool, but she wasn't feeling too cool about then.

Max had understood how she couldn't go home to the condo ... too many memories there. She wasn't quite sure where to go. She went to the condo long enough to throw a few things (all black) into a backpack and leave again, asking the building maintenance man to change her locks and send the new keys to the Red Orc brewery.

She figured she could find a few places in Badside to crash, if that was what she wanted, yet she didn't think it was. She was rather surprised that after hours of walking aimlessly, she found herself on the doorstep of Tony Graziano. Tony had let her stay there before, but it was at Maria's urging, and likely a bit of bribery as well. PJ had every intention of turning around and continuing her walk when she watched her hand lift to the door and knock. It was like watching a movie. She could see what she was doing, but couldn't really stop herself either.
What was she going to say? How could she explain why she was there?

Before she could plan any of it out, Tony had opened the door. PJ took one look at him and the words just tumbled out.

"I left Rix, he was with Chase, can I stay here?" She didn't even realize she had tears in her eyes and rolling down her cheeks ....

?Uh?.Rix was chasin? who??

Tony was dumbfounded to see PJ outside his bachelor pad. He couldn?t even remember the last time he had seen or spoken to her. Tony?s last few months had consisted of private training at the team?s gym; he was determined to come back to the TDL and surprise everyone, including his team. This had left him pretty isolated from the arena and all the drama that seemed to surround it. All of a sudden it was staring him right in the face again.

Tony examined PJ?s face, looked up to the sky, then looked back at her. The cloudless night told him that those couldn?t possibly be raindrops rolling down her cheeks. Frowning, he moved aside and motioned her into his surprisingly clean living room. After offering her a seat on his couch and throwing a box of Kleenex at her, he took a seat in his favorite armchair and opened his mouth.

?How ?bout yo? wipe yo? eyes, tell supa? Mario wha?s wrong, an? then clean his kitchen??

PJ took a little bit of time to dry the tears, ticked at herself that they were even there. She didn't waste much time on that couch though. She'd be sleeping there later with any luck anyways.

Surprised the living room was as clean as it was, she headed to the kitchen and started right in on cleaning it up. As for telling Tony what was going on, she just let him sit where he was while she worked and scrubbed and talked at the same time.

"There was an attraction between Rix and Chase MacLaren... not that I blame him, she's beautiful... It looks like it just went further than I knew... so... I left."

She wasn't sure what was in the pizza box she was throwing away, but she could almost swear it growled at her...

"I... I really don't know how I ended up here, Mario... I just kinda... did."

She filled the sink of dishes with water as hot as it would get and lots of soap, then headed back in by Tony, sitting on the floor by his chair, her forehead pressed to its armrest and hiding her face, dark hair spilling like an onyx halo.

"Can I use your couch?"

Tony scratched his head, not entirely interested in her sob story, but at the same time, figured that he should try to be sympathetic.

"Well, if this Chase chick got a McLaren, this Rix dude was probly attracted tah her car, not her."

He felt these words might offer some consolation, but the confused look PJ shot up at him told him that he was way off base. He quickly changed gears.

"Uh, yaih, yo' can grab mah couch. Should warn yo' tha' Ah get up about 5 an' head tah the gym, so Ah might wake yo' up."

This apparently didn't phase PJ as she quickly thanked him before heading back to the kitchen to finish the dishes. Tony remained sitting in the armchair and went into thought, since the remote was over on the couch and he didn't feel like getting up to retrieve it. He contemplated askng PJ to get it for him, but he really wanted the kitchen done. So instead he mulled over PJ's problem, and a solution quickly jumped into his head.

"Ah got it! Go trash this Chase girl's McLaren, and Rix'll come crawlin' back. Those wheels are money. Ah bet tha' girl is nothin' without it."

PJ had been hanging out at Tony's for some time now, but she was trying to stay out of his way and out of sight. She'd slip in late after she could safely assume he'd be asleep, then leave again early every morning. She cleaned up after him rather dutifully, even if at times she was down right grossed out. There were a couple of mornings that her stomach just lurched and turned, but she suffered through it. It was the least she could do, after all.

She figured Tony's macho pride might keep him from taking any rent money from her (then again, maybe it wouldn't ... this was Tony Graziano she was talking about, after all...), so PJ found ways to stash money here and there were Tone would find it and likely assume it was his anyway.

She had every intention of returning to her condo, yet it seemed the longer she was away from it, the less she wanted to return. She decided it was time to rent it out. Rory had mentioned she might know someone who would want it, hadn't she? Have to check into that...

And ... she'd eventually have to find a new place to live... Tony wasn't going to want her around forever ... maid or no maid...
~~~~~~
It was one of those late nights of sneaking in again. At least she was good at that, getting in and out of places undetected. At this point, she already knew how to get to the couch without turning any lights on. With a quiet sigh she flopped down and stared up at the ceiling she couldn't see. Maybe in the morning she wouldn't sneak away so quick... Maybe she'd make breakfast for Tony and try to get a feel for where he stood on things. See where Mario's tolerance level for Princess Toadstool was. As she drifted off to sleep, she wondered if Tony really did know how to do plumbing...
Tony probably wouldn?t even notice PJ was gone for a while, at least not until the pizza boxes and dirty dishes started piling up again. Maybe he?d get lucky and Maria would show up before it got too bad. If she saw it was even partly clean, maybe she?d pick up the rest of it for him?
PJ didn?t bother to wake him to tell him she was going to Loiselle with Arithon, its not like Tony really wanted a room mate; a maid, maybe? but not a room mate.
She?d gotten what few things she had at Tony?s together while he was out training and then met Ari at the GIT. She didn?t want to impede any further on Tony?s privacy by having Ari pick her up there.
She thought briefly about writing him a note, but figured it would only get lost in the ?essence? of Tony?s bachelor pad. Hell, maybe she?d even pull off a visit to Loiselle and get back before Tony noticed. That was one way not to lose the couch she was currently crashing on?.
Tony scratched his head, noticing that the pots and pans he would use every so often were once again piled in his sink. He hadn?t seen much of PJ up until she made him breakfast that one morning. Until that point, Tony had figured she was long gone and he was just getting cleaner.
He still wasn?t sure why he got that breakfast; it actually confused the hell out of him. Was she saying thank you, or was she just reminding him that she was there? Tony tried not to think about it too much, but the mound of dishes that lay before him brought the question, and an answer, to mind. She split.
?Wonda? if Ah pissed her off. Hell, if she wanted a glass of OJ, she shoulda jus? said so.?
Tony kicked a few boxes out of his way. His house never got this bad, even before PJ had come back. He was learning to get neater, but that habit left just as quickly as it came. Still, Tony managed to start picking some of the trash off of the floor. He had to admit, he liked the house better when it was clean. After all, he had been finding little bits of money everywhere since PJ had come
