Gavin,

You said you?d read to the kids if I wrote, so please let Liam try to read this himself, just help him if he needs it.

Hi Liam!

How are things going at home? I bet your daddy is spoiling you like crazy, isn?t he? I hope you?re behaving and taking good care of your little sister.

I?m missing you like crazy and can?t wait to get home and get a big hug from my favorite guy. Just wait until you see the big surprise Jake has for you and Laci when I get back!

Give Lace a big hug from her mommy, please? I love you guys like crazy and I?ll be home as soon as I can.

~Mom

My Dearest Reap,

I?ve tried countless times to write you this letter, but I find myself lacking in emotional control. Of course, being here, I don?t have my emotional barriers either. There is so much I wish I could say to you, but I haven?t the strength. Yet, I think that somehow, some way, you know.

Maybe once I get out of this place, I?ll have the tools needed tell you everything in my heart and mind. For now, please just know you are always with me.

I?ve enclosed a picture of you and Laci from a while back. I snuck this pic in shortly before the two of you dozed off in that beat up old recliner you so seem to favor.

Always,

~ PJ

The letter was written in crayon with a shaky hand. Gavin had written alongside Liam to let the little boy mirror his father's letters.

"Mom

I love you mom. I want you to come home. Daddy bought me a train set and then Laci threw up her baby food.

Love, Liam. and Laci. ( His sister's name added afterward by Gavin's suggestion )"

Inside the envelope was a picture colored by Liam. It was a blue sky with the sun, a house, and grass with flowers. Next to the house were stick figures of PJ (Mommy), Gavin (Daddy), Liam and Laci.

The letter came in a black envelope bearing The Heavenly Boutique's logo engraved in silver over the flap. The handwriting was a neat script lacking the usual accent that accompanied the words when spoken out loud:

El Presidente,

I don?t know if this will even reach you but I thought it was worth a try. Reap told me he got a letter from you and gave me the return address on the envelope. If that bothers you at all please don?t blame him ? we had just gotten out of a ring at the Outback and he probably didn?t want me to try impaling him with my heel again if he refused to give it to me.

I wish you had taught me more Spanish than the word for ?beer.? At least I think the name of this hospital is Spanish because it has ?el? in it too like your nickname. What kind of hospital is it? Are you doing OK? I am guessing your hands at least are not broken if you were able to write Reap so maybe that?s a plus? Hands are very important.

Did you miss my idiotic questions? I miss you if that helps any. I at least get to see you whenever there?s a bottle of Badsider around. I should probably be drinking less of those.

I?m not exaggerating when I say I miss you though. I don?t believe me saying that technically puts me in danger of violating Rule 8 because no touching is involved in that potentially touching moment. Peej, my fuse is shorter than ever lately. The Gods did not bless me with the kind of tolerance and diplomacy needed to be a Governor?s wife. The more I watch Matt working himself into the ground to help with every new crisis (and believe me there is a new crisis every other day), the more my blood boils whenever anyone gives him a hard time. The worst part is that me making a scene winds up being all the more aggravating for him but you know I don?t do well with thinking things through before I react.

All this is to say can you get better soon? It?d be nice to have your friendly fabulous face around. I know I?m not the only one who feels that way.

Your Fellow DoD Girl,
Legs
