Garden of Surprises

The rooftop home and garden at Red Orc brewery was PJ?s own private little sanctuary. Jake had gone so far above and beyond for her that she never felt restless, bored or insecure there.

The house itself was like a fortress. PJ thought maybe Jake had gotten a little crazy on the security measures, but she had to admit they were nice.

The garden, however, was like being in another world ? Away from the RDI, away from Badside, away from drama. It was almost English in style ? dense, lush, colorful. Jake?s goblins definitely had green thumbs. (PJ always cracked herself up with that joke.) It was a wonderful place for Laci to play, for Reap to smoke and for PJ to just wander and chill out.

And that is exactly what PJ was doing that morning. The air was brisk, but her robe was warm, as was the mug of hot chocolate in her hand. She strolled and sipped, sipped and strolled. Every once in a while she?d find something new in the garden as she walked; different stones here, a new flower blooming there, a strange new shrubbery that wasn?t there before. After one or 4 small incidents and one goblin nearly being strangled by PJ, they had at least stopped changing the pathways at random.

So it was with great surprise that PJ turned the corner and ran smack into something that wasn?t supposed to be there. Her hot chocolate was caught between PJ and the obstacle, ending up on PJ?s robe. The mug that had contained said chocolate was now shattered on the ground.

Her midnight black eyes widened in disbelief as she stepped back, just staring, completely slack jawed. She?d already forgotten all about the hot (rapidly becoming cold) chocolate she was now wearing.

?What the hell?.? She reached out a finger and poked the obstacle ? maybe she was hallucinating?

Well, it wasn?t a statue. The cow (which had been eating the buds off her favorite purple flowers) turned its head and gave her a lazy once over, then turned back to continue its breakfast.

?Reap? REAP!? PJ waited until he found her in the garden, where she stood pointing at the beast.

?Look! It?s a ? cow!? PJ was reasonably certain it was a cow, at least. The city girl really hadn?t spent all that much time around animals that outweighed her. (Except Reap, of course).

Reap ran his fingers up under his hat, scratching his head with an amused look on his face. He looked at the cow, then PJ, then the cow again.

?Well?. Do something? Say something!? PJ pleaded as she looked back and forth between Bessie and Reap.

Reap looked at her, his hazel-blue-grey eyes laughing where he didn?t dare. When he finally spoke, the amusement was easily heard in his tone.

?Nice T*ts?.

Chimes

Working with the stained glass Aja had sent her, Rena designed some wind chimes and sun catchers. Not sure what she was looking for, Rena sent a few samples to Arcadia so she could pick and choose.
