?Many have sought to domesticate the species. Most times the attempts ended before any real progress had been made. Other times, it seemed as though full domestication had been nearly achieved when the creature?s wild nature would again take hold. The ?fight or flight? instinct would cause either an unprovoked attack on the keeper, or an outright break for freedom...?

A fully dressed PJ drifted in and out of sleep on the couch with the ill-gotten television (tuned to the Discovery channel) droning on and weaving itself into the fabric of the Latina?s thoughts.

?Mankind?s wish to domesticate the wild seems to be an almost inborn trait. The beautiful and exotic is also mysterious and dangerous. The challenge to reign that in has driven many men to extremes.?

Dark eyes, heavily lidded, struggled to lift and focus in on the gorgeous 50-inch, high definition flat screen. PJ?s hand curled tightly around the smooth neck of a nearly empty fifth of tequila; yet she still lacked the coordination to bring the bottle to her lips. Sleep and alcohol had not yet released their hold on her.

?Yet when the beast has been tamed, very often we find that the very fire we sought to hold in our hands has been extinguished. When there is no mystery, our interest wanes; when there is no element of danger, the rush of adrenaline falls away and we are left with a mere shadow of the magnificent beast that had captured our attention long before we captured it.?

She let her eyes fall closed once again, her head pressing heavily into the arm of the couch, her grip on the bottle loosening once more.

?And what of the creature itself? Once domesticated, many creatures may enjoy a longer life span, far removed from its habitat and natural predators. Tamed species will often go against instincts and exhibit behavior never seen in the wild??

Images flickered and changed on the television. The plasma screen?s dim glow played upon the sleeping Latina?s features.

?Can fighting one?s instincts really be healthy? Here our cameras find a case in point. The Domestication of the Wild Badsider. Her previous ferociousness now seems only to be seen when protecting her young. Where she once stalked prey just for fun, she now lays sedately in her den. Her instincts to hunt seem quelled by a steady supply of readily available sustenance via a mundane liquor cabinet??

It was a loud crash? and an even louder, deafening scream.

?I am NOT domesticated!? PJ looked over to the wall where the tequila ran slowly down the painted surface towards hundreds of glass shards upon the floor. All the while she wondered when she had gotten to her feet; or even when she had woken up for the matter.

Dark eyes looked at the plasma screen in front of her and the digital time display in its corner. The Discovery Channel had been showing info-mercials for at least 30 minutes now. There was no way the announcer could have said those things about her according to the clock.

She narrowed her eyes at the television, her glare accusing it of lying. She had heard what she?d heard!

?Fuck you!? Another crash sounded ? this one joined in a chorus of frying circuits and exploding tubes.

Withdrawing her heavy leather motorcycle boot from the ruins of the television, PJ stalked to Apartment 317?s door and damn near ripped it from its hinges as she left the cage behind.
