The day she had returned to Rhy'Din, Valentine recieved word from some healer that Lilith was badly hurt, and in need of her. She went immediately to her friend's side, and took her home with her.

In the room with her, she sat, vigilant and worried. Lilith was so pale, she slipped in and out of consciousness....and the night terrors were exhausting for her.

She held her friend's hand and watched as she was slowly dying...of what, Valentine wasn't sure. She sighed and gave into the exhaustion haunting her. Misery was here, as well, and would wake her if need be.

As she slipped into dreamless sleep, the sun rose and the two creatures not of this world met their own nightmares.

Misery watched her Mistress slip into restless sleep, it was nearly dawn. Soon, though, her sleep would deepen and she would become like the dead; still, waxy, pale, and dreamless. It still unnerved her to witness the transformation, but she no longer ran from the sight. She set her jaw, stiffened her resolve, and sat beside her beloved Mistress and the Lady Danu.

Lilith's breathing was good, all the instruments and her own ears told her that; it was the little whimpers and moans that worried Misery. She wished she could slip into those dreams, into that mind and soothe her.

Misery yawned, but would not sleep. Time for that tonight. Now, she sat and kept watch over her Mistress and her Mistress's charge.

She awoke at dusk, unsure of where she was or who this black haired woman was that sat beside her. She watched as startlingly brilliant purple eyes turned to meet hers, and she blinked.

"Where am I?" she croaked, licked her lips, and tried again, but her voice was still as shaky. "Who are you?"

She was smiled at, patted, reasurred and given a drink of watered down mead. Odd, she knew Lilith's preffered libation.

Nodding her thanks, Lilth turned her head a bit and saw the unconscious Valentine slowly wake. Must be sunset?

She smiled at Val and reached a hand to her, startled at the skeletal look of her own arm and fingers. Tubes were running out the back of it, and a large bruise was a sickly, mottled yellow-green at her elbow.

She wined as memories of that night flooded back, and tears slid down gaunt cheeks. She keened softly and tried to roll into a fetal position, but her body protested in screaming agony.

Valentine awoke and watched Lilith toss and turn, she cooed and stroked her friend's hair, worried.

"Misery." She spoke softly, not wishing to alarm Lilith. "Wake up, pet. Please leave the room."

Glancing at the door to see she had been obeyed, Val leaned over Lilith and gently rolled her onto her back. She stroked a cheek, speaking softly to her, hoping to break into her nightmarish world.

Nightmares thinned, gauzy webbing of horror slowly disinigrating from her thoughts. Lilith roused slowly, groaning from pain of body and pain of mind. She felt the cool, marble touch of whom she assumed to be a vampire. Then it came back to her, she had awoken once before to see Valentine asleep beside her.

"Val" she croaked, throat dry and lips sore. She licked them, and found that some sort of lip balm had been applied. Water was suddenly at her lips, and she sipped it gently. Memories came flooding back, thrashing against the shaky defensive walls she had been building in her dreams.

Shushed, by Val, Lilith lay still, staring at the pale face of her last friend. She sighed softly, smiled weakly, and spoke again. This time, her voice a bit stronger, "End it. Please. Take my blood, and my life. Let me go. I beg of you..."

Tears fell upon her cheeks, slid against her lips; they tasted faintly of blood, and Lilith knew that they were Valentine's tears.

Valentine could not bring herself to think of Lilith's request. She had left the room with a promise to consider it and taken Misery for a walk in the gardens. They had gone wild, and it was a comforting place for the both of them among the wild roses, overgrown bushes and herbs galore.

She had news to break to Misery, things to discuss, and they turned out well. Misery agreed that it was time for her to find a new Mistress.

A knock on the gallery door had sent Valentine to see who it was, finding a young goth woman, who had the faint features of a fae. She could smell the magick on her, and then saw the similarities in the face, the eyes. Lilith's daughter then introduced herself and asked Val about her Mother, and Val nearly sobbed.

Locking her emotions away, she led the girl into the house and quickly went to Lilith's side to tell her about Lyric.

"Lilith, my friend, she is here. She is a beautiful but disturbing teenage girl. How, I don't know, but she found me and is here in Rhy'Din to find you. She needs to see you, she says. I haven't told her your here. What do you want to do?"

She saw the pain, fear, and conflicting emotions morph across her friend's face, and smiled reassuringly. "I think you should meet her. She is a lot like you. An obnoxious pain in the ass. Might do you some good to be given a dose of your own medicine. Might make you better."

She held Lilith's gaunt hand, and listened to her friend work out her decision, knowing a tounge lashing was soon to be dealt.

The last bit of strength she thought she had was suddenly doubled, then tripled, as she sat bolt upright in bed and shouted, "WHAT?!"

Trembling from the effort, scared witless, and staring at Val, Lilith shook her head frantically. "No, no, no...she can't be here. Mother would never let her leave, she is heir to the throne!!! I can't see her looking like this, no, she has to go. How can she be here? No, you musn't make me meet her. I left her because I would ruin her, ruin her life! I'm no mother, Val! What do I do?"

Falling back into the bed, exhausted and flushed, she gripped that cool hand in hers and felt a thousand things at once. Fear, self-loathing, and hatred for that human male, for starters. She had thought it was Arthenius Greycrowne's child, but once she saw the girl, she knew who's daughter she was. That ever so lovely and handsome man, that untouchable and so spoken for man she spent just the one night with. Oh Goddess, how had it happened?

All that aside, Lilith was brimming with sudden nervous energy, and fighting the urge to run to her daughter, to hold her and apologize for leaving her there in Avalon with that horrid Mother of hers. She knew Lyric must have had it rough, for she remembered her own youth. Oh, how Lyric must HATE her!

She sat up again, slower, and pulled Valentine onto the bed, beside her, whispering fiercely,"How does she look? Did she know my name? Is she angry? Should I see her? What did she say about me?"

Valentine could only laugh at the worry and panic in her friend's eyes. "Just talk to her Lil, I...." And that was when it hit. The Call.

Her blood boiled, then froze in turn. It sung with the irrisistable call of her Sire. She rose, almost entranced, speaking softly and in an oddly disturbing monotone. "I must go find Belle. I have to leave, Lilith. Lyric is in the front room. I will return soon."

With that, she stood, and hurried out of the house in search of her Sire. Belle was in trouble!
