Love came in many forms and from many types of people. Sometimes it snuck into the beds of close friends, or fights valiantly alongside comrades in battle. Sometimes love was expressed by someone of a different caste, race, or belief. Then there was love that emanated from those with special bonds. Special bonds that strip everything bare and leaves no dark corner to hide secrets in.

This was the type of love that almost drove Lene and Moonshine mad when their souls had bonded one fateful night as Moonshine held a dying Lene in his arms. She had risked everything to capture Mogriil, a murdering ex lover who had pinned the blame on her. She had shot him twice but that was not enough. The Lupe had pinned Lene to the ground with a wicked dragon lance then proceeded to stab her over and over again with the lance.

Moonshine didn't know how he had managed to keep Lene alive that night. Often times he would think that it was the musty old chant from a book he had read, or that maybe she wasn't as injured as he had thought. He sent those ideas away often as he knew the truth. She had died in his arms. Yes, died, and came back. No one knows how, but when she did, their souls were united as one though they have two separate bodies.

One would think that knowing your lover intimately to the very core of their hearts would make them precious. They never stop to think of all the secrets, the fears, the horrors, and hates that a person can hide, bury, or imprison within their souls. Lene and Moonshine found out this bitter truth.

Lene was haunted by the social stigmas Moonshines people had placed on him when he was an anthro wolf and not a dragon. The stigma of being marked for death because he was born blind. The sorrow he had heard in his parents voices every night when the willingly fled into the night to keep their son alive accepting exile from their homeland. The longing to find his parents once more though he doesn't know where to look for them. It wasn't all horror though. She experienced sight through his kind eyes. Understood the beauty of singing metal as it was struck and what each note would mean. The wisdom, knowledge, and emotions he felt for those he loved, respected, and honored. Lene had learned more from being bonded to him the last three weeks than anyone has been able to teach her.

Moonshine managed to deal with Lenes dark side a little better though he would admit to her that some nights he was truly frightened by her memories. What he witnessed in her soul was deep, terrifying, and would have made any stalwart soldier cry for his mother, render the most confident wizard insane, and drive anyone with compassion to suicide. But there was a glimmer of hope. Anytime she would dream or have these fears, Moonshine would help her fight them, being her dragon in shining armor to lead her back from the dark nights and deep depths of horror.

During those trying weeks, they grew closer and closer. They fell in love with the inner person and gave no thought to the size differences or the fact that she was a Lupinossai and he was now a dragon. This love brought to the fore that they would be happy together and would never be the same if separated. Moonshine proposed to Lene and she said yes before the words left his snout for they shared everything as well as thoughts.

The two set out to find a Lair to live in seeing how Moonshine was a dragon and Lene found lairs interesting. They had managed to find one 5 miles away from the Den, inside a small mountain named Fang Rock. Within the Lair, they discovered a waterfall and both hot and cold springs. The Lair had natural lofts and pockets along the wall. Lene was thrilled about this as it was assumed that when they had children that some of them may be able to fly and would need plenty of practice.

Moonshine used his dragon breath alongside Lenes as the made more cavern rooms to expand the lair out and make it their own. During the times they were not working on the lair, they did what couples did best. Enjoy each other. A few complications arose, but they were resourceful enough to over come them. Soon the Lair was ready for furnishings and to invite their friends and family to come visit.

Before that could happen, Lene was starting to feel ill and Moonshine feeling this took her to Whisper Paws Clinic. They were both excited and reserved making assumptions that maybe she wasn't sick but pregnant. Lene had gone through tests and exams and now they were waiting in the exam room for Fen, her doctor, soul guardian, and uncle to tell them the results.

Fen opened the door to the exam room and stepped inside. He gave a warm smile to his soul niece and her mate. The fact that she was mated to a dragon had thrown him off a little bit, but given his wife was a human, Fen wasn't worried about it.

"I am betting you two are anxious for some news and results seeing how we've poked and prodded Lene like a pin cushion. Well, I wish I had good news." Fen said with a neutral tone.

Lene glanced to Moonshine in wonder. "I'm not pregnant am I?" she asked with a note of disappointment in her voice.

"You were pregnant Lene, but your body has absorbed the fetuses instead of continuing with gestation."

Lene sat for a moment trying to understand. Moonshine put a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"Do you know why?" he asked Fen.

Fen nodded his head yes. "Yes, I do. It is nothing to be too worried about. Lene's body is simply to young to deal with assimilating your genetic coding Moonshine. It tried and when it failed, it absorbed the unborn. I have seen it happen to other Lupes who try to mate too young. I would simply say that it's a case of Lene needing to grow and age more before it's ready. We've never had dragons try to mate with our kind before, so her body is going to have to adjust. Now don't feel discouraged. Her hormone levels indicate she is still cycling for another two weeks. Try again. If she gets ill again, try next year. I wish I could say more, but these things happen."

Moonshine nodded and hugged Lene. He could feel her wanting to cry. "We'll just keep on trying love. For now, let's go rest. You've had a stressful three days."

Lene just nodded. "Thank you uncle Fen." She stood and held onto Moonshine.

Fen gave a sigh and led the two out of the hospital and watched them leave. He wished them the best of luck and that they would have kids. A young couple to be stricken barren was never a good sign.

"We'll just keep on trying love. For now, let's go rest. You've had a stressful three days."

Those words seemed to float in Moonshines sleepy mind. Had he known the hell and chaos that had happened around Rhydin and the Den, he would have just taken Lene on a long, long vacation. As it was, they survived a few things he didn't think about or it would wake Lene.

He could hear her light breathing, smelled her fur that had hints of lavender scents through it, and felt the warm fur of her body next to his massive scaled hide. He felt very proud to have her as his mate. Most look at them and see a size issue, but he didn't. Lene, no matter how small, had a big heart and he loved that.

The thoughts woke his mind up fully. Opening his green eyes, he viewed the dim cavern room. Moving his head he watched Lene sleep and gently nuzzled her hair. He felt hungry, really hungry. He chuckled low knowing he was picking up on Lene's body. He rolled away from her and a trotted off to the kitchen area. That was another reason he was proud. They tried some bedroom mambo again and after a two weeks, they got a positive she was pregnant.

Reaching the kitchen he rummaged in the coolers and bins pulling out deer and some wild boars. He wasn't like the other dragons. He never got used to the taste of Wyvern. Meat out, he pulled out seasonings and a large skillet. A snort from his nose set the coals in the stove on fire and he warmed up the skillet. He grabbed potatoes, onions, a few carrots and some peppers. He quickly chopped them all up and set them to frying in the skillet after adding some olive oil.

Normally he would have just eaten the meat raw and skip the vegetables, but he knew soon, Lene would wake sensing his mind was up and hearing his own thoughts. His own thoughts were quite peaceful at the moment. He was thinking of Lene and their pups that will come in a few months. He also thought of the hope Fleet had given Lene in finding a cure for her eyes.

The vegetable browning and sizzling nice he cut the meat in thin strips and threw them into the skillet as well. He always wondered what Lene's eye's looked like. He'd seen the nasty scars and the hideous symbol of Paladin in them. The symbol used to be lovely, but the god seemed tainted now, tainting and twisting the symbol into something vile as well.

He tossed that idea into the fire so to speak and continued cooking. He heard the sleepy padding of pawed feet and he looked up. Sure enough, Lene was sleepily walking out of their bedroom rubbing her neck. That black satin ribbon around her eyes making her look exotic in just her fur. He just grinned watching her.

"Morning love, I think." Lene said. "What are you cooking?"

"Venison and Boar fried with vegetables. I was hungry and felt you hungry so I am making a large serving." he chuckled.

"Sounds great sweety. Did I mention I have today off? Would love to spend it with you. Are you free today, or still making more things for the Den?" she asked feeling the rock inlaid counter and worked her way over to Moonshine.

"I think I can slip away from the forge for a day. Seems most of the repairs are nearly done." Moonshine replied.

She put her paws on his scales and smiled. "Such a warm dragon. Where's my morning kiss?"

Moonshine just laughed, leaned over and kissed her. The food was done and they both ate that morning, enjoying their time together.

Well a few months have passed on the two of us. We have both grown in our soul bond. We no longer fear or try to hide from each other emotions or pain. We take what comes our way as a unified front.

The fact of being pregnant again filled me with joy and dread that I'd lose this pup as well being so young, but I didn't lose him. I am sitting here holding a furry bundle of joy whose sole concern right now is sleeping and eating and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I look back on the three months of carrying him inside me. He wasn't supposed to come into this world until five months had gone by, but I guess my son, Calcifer, was impatient to start life. I watch my sleeping mate, Moonshine in his tiny dragonling form he uses when he loves to cuddle with me. Right now he has his snout pressed against Calcifers belly and Calcifer has one of Moon's horns in his tiny little hands.

I never understood why mom would spend a long time gazing at me when I was a puppy till now. Gazing at my two guys, I realize, this is my heaven, my solace, my peace. I wouldn't want it any other way. Soon I'll be out of the hospital and we'll be home, all three of us, then my trials of motherhood will begin.

I pray to Canis and Lupis that I wont fail Calcifer as a mother. I also add a prayer to a new set of gods our Den has come to know, Bahamut and Lo. For now, with my mind filled with joy, and heavy with peace, I will nap with my small family and be at peace.
