The rhythmic tap of a mythril staff on the cobbled stones, recently laid in the streets of the Den, rang through the chill air. Lene felt quite warm though as she was baking a bun in the oven so to speak. A she walked she listened. The Den was a variety of sounds, but a somber, low note seemed to seep into all of it. The Den was in need of something cheerful.
As she walked she recalled last year that mom and dad taught her about the Celebration of Life. A time for being glad you are alive, loving those you have, and being happy for what you have. You even gave each other one gift. A gift that they could use. A practical gift. Hmm. It was still early in the month for the celebration, but the recent rash of events and overall sour notes of this year for the Den should be ample reason to start celebrating a bit early.
That argument sounded right to her, so her mythril staff tread out a rhythmic ring toward the Den's Circle. Reaching the area, hearing the pitter patter of the fountain's water fall on the stone basin greeted her ears. This place always seemed to be the place of public announcement. This time it would be a place of announcement and beauty. Though she had lost her eyesight a few months ago, she remembered how the Den was decorated last time and decided to improve on that.
Lene stopped a few feet from the fountain and laid her staff flat on the pavement. Standing tall, and as proud as a 4 foot Airii could be, she extended her wings fully feeling the warmth of the sun. She rolled up her the long sleeves of her Cowboy Bebop shirt that Moonshine got her, and flexed her fingers. It had been a while since she did any magic in the Den itself, much less on a grand scale.
Testing the weave of the energy about the place she noted the two defense shells her step brother had put into affect. No matter. Her magic was benign and not ill willed. Lene withdrew a piece of chalk from a pocket on her black jeans, and by memory traced several arrays. She could here a few of the Den residents walk over to the Den circle to see what she was up to. She just smiled to herself and kept working away on the arrays. She could feel energy flow into them when the arrays were complete.
Lene stood and clapped the chalk dust off of her furred fingers. She heard more Lupes coming to see what was up. Reaching into her leather satchel, she withdrew a silver flute. One end cap held a dragon head sculpted in silver, the other end cap held a wolf head sculpted in silver. Standing within those arrays, she held the flute at the ready but didn't play just yet. Murmurs ran through the gathering Lupes about Lene and working magic. She heard more Lupes appear and the jangle of Den Fangs as well all wondering what in the five rings of Fen was going on?
"I am glad some of you have gathered here today." Lene raised her voice high in a lovely musical tone.
"We have faced much peril, much loss, and to put it bluntly, taken a lot of crap this whole year. I walk through this Den and I am not hearing much mirth, or happiness. Are we a beaten people? Do we forget how to celebrate? How to enjoy life and each other? No!" Her voice echoed through the Den.
The crowds murmured among themselves. One Den Fang was heard approaching her. Carlo by the sound of his breathing. He stopped near her but didn't step on the arrays.
"Lene are you trying to incite a public riot?" Carlo asked with concern.
"Not at all Carlo. I am a Den Fang as well. I just want everyone to wake up, get their butts in gear, and be happy." Lene said loud enough for everyone to hear.
"The time for the Celebration of Life will be coming soon. I say, why wait? Let us begin the Celebration of Life today! Let us move on with our lives and love again!" Her little speech given, she pressed flute to lips and played.
The song was rich, beautiful, and mixed the tones of the Christmas songs she's heard in Rhydin with some of the more happier celebration songs of the Old Country. The arrays flared in white, green, red, orange, blue, yellow energy as they activated. Sparkles exploded from the arrays and flared, racing through out the Den, down streets, alleys, and thoroughfares. Wherever the sparkles touched, evergreen wreaths and decorations would appear. Multitudes of glowing mini lights in all colors appeared as well. By the fountain, the sparkles all returned and coalesced into a fountain of multicolor lights. The fountain of light was temporary and would fade at the end of the festivals in January. The fountain would allow anyone to come up and visit with a soul of a departed one as the Soul Garden tended to get crowded.
Soon, flute music stopped and she lowered the flute. Many were gasping in awe and many were howling in joy. Putting away the flute, she just smiled to herself. Then she picked up her mythril staff and looked directly at Carlo, knowing where he was by the gasps and awes he kept making.
"Now that decorations are in place and the mood lifted, what say you help a young mother get to her desk before she's late for work?" Lene said softly.
Carlo nodded to himself and guided Lene on to the Den Fang Offices.
((Alright. I have set the mood. Now, If you have any holiday posts for your chars in the Den, stick them right here. Come on, don't let me be the only one doing this!))
