The most rewarding part of the work they did at Rose House was rehoming their children with families who would love and care for them the way they needed.

All these records were written up by hand, by Ro, in a series of custom made journals.

Race: Human, dark-skinned

Height: 3' 5"

Weight: 46lbs

Date entered Rose House: 7th February 2010

Progress and Development: Has improved vastly in health and general fitness during the time he has spent here. Struggles with numeracy; no significant difficulties with literacy and general manners. Prospective Parent(s) Name(s): Emilia and Horace Pankhurst

Reason for wanting to adopt: Unable to conceive biological children

Address: 71, New Green Avenue, Merchant's District

Employed Yes/No: Yes. Horace owns his own grocery business, turns a good profit, and Emilia assists in the shop

Marital Status: Married

Race: Human, dark-skinned

Background check: Clean. No history to be wary of

Additional comments: Over the course of a month, the Pankhursts have visited Rose House a total of thirteen times, generally staying for a meal with Josiah. Josiah himself seems to be growing attached to them - has expressed a wish that Emilia was his mother. When informed of the adoption request, he became highly emotionally pleased, clinging to Emilia and Horace, rather than the carer in attendance. Shows all the signs of a good match. As agreed, Josiah will continue to attend the school at Rose House for an agreed period of time, during which any concerns or questions from either the Pankhursts or Josiah may be addressed.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/RhyDinLittleTheatre/Rose%20House/Patience.jpg
Child's Name: Patience

Age: 5 years

Date of Birth: 2nd May 2005

Race: Human, dark-skinned

Height: 3' 2"

Weight: 38.4lbs

Date entered Rose House: 31st December 2009

Progress and Development: Has improved vastly in health and general fitness during the time she has spent here. Exceptionally bright; no difficulties in literacy, numeracy, or general manners. Social skills are top notch; rather a fearless little woman.

Medical history: Arrived at Rose House with fractures in both ankles, as well as deep tissue damage to her abdomen. All healed to the best of ability, though she seems left with a residual limp. She may grow out of it, she may not. The usual array of coughs and colds during the winter months, none serious.

Prospective Parent(s) Name(s): Louis and Jennifer Canava - two boys, Jeremy (8 yrs) and Joseph (6 yrs)

Reason for wanting to adopt: Choosing to adopt a daughter to expand their family; the boys want a little sister.

Address: 118 Circle Street, South Gate

Employed Yes/No: Yes. Louis works as an restorative architect, and Jennifer as a morning receptionist at the Gate Clinic. Jeremy and Joseph are enrolled in a local school.

Marital Status: Married

Race: Human, mixed

Background check: Clean. Jennifer has links to the movement, though is ignorant of Rose House's connection.

Additional comments: Over the course of three months, the Canava family have visited Rose House a total of thirty-seven times, either singly or in groups. They expressed a wish to get to know the children, and let the children make the decision for them. Patience gets on extremely well with Jeremy and Joseph, and observation of them at play suggests that the boys are just as happy with her as she is with them. Jennifer and Louis have participated in the evening routine a total of eight times; Patience appears contented with them. She has named her teddy bear Canava for them. When informed of the request to adopt, she gave every sign of happiness with the decision, though it was tempered with a little sadness at leaving Rose House. She fits in well with the Canava family. As agreed, Patience will continue to attend the school at Rose House for an agreed period of time, during which any concerns or questions from either the Pankhursts or Patience may be addressed.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/RhyDinLittleTheatre/Rose%20House/Lucy.jpg
Child's Name: Lucy

Age: 17 years

Date of Birth: 15th July 1997

Race: Halfling, fair-skinned

Height: 4' 3"

Weight: 57.4lbs

Date entered Rose House: 23rd January 2009

Progress and Development: In health and general fitness, Lucy has definitely improved. In emotional progress, she retains her cautious, aggressive side, and no doubt it will take several more years of intervention to smooth her sharp tongue. However, she is more than competant in literacy and numeracy, and her social interaction skills are good, if a little stilted.

Medical history: Came to us bruised and battered, showing signs of sexual as well as mental and physical abuse. However, these physical scars have healed over - Lucy doesn't bear any visible reminder of how she came to be at Rose House. For a few months, she had episodes of fury, during which we had to restrain her to keep both herself and the other children safe. However, once she started to talk to me, things calmed down. She has suffered the usual array of coughs and colds, with no lingering ill effect.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/RhyDinLittleTheatre/Rose%20House/LucysCottage.jpg
Address: 95, Pudding Lane, East Market Street

Background check: Clean - the Goodmans welcome visitors to pop in.

Additional comments: At Lucy's own request, and with assistance from certain members of , the decision was made to get her ready to support herself, rather than place her with a family. To this end, a job was found for her in the bakery on Pudding Lane, East of the main Marketplace, and she has been attending this employment for six months. During this time, she has gotten to know her employers, Mr and Mrs Goodman, and they have offered her the apartment above the bakery (they live in a small house behind the building) at a modest rent. I and other members of donated various pieces of furniture and utensils to fit out the apartment, and Lucy moved in last week. She seems contented enough, but has requested to keep coming back to Rose House for visits. In time, hopefully, these visits will become less frequent, and she will relax into her new life. Until then, she knows we're here if she needs us.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/RhyDinLittleTheatre/Rose%20House/Oliver.jpg
Child's Name: Oliver

Age: 15 years

Date of Birth: 14th December 1995

Race: Human, Asian

Height: 5' 2"

Weight: 103.lbs

Date entered Rose House: 1st August 2003

Progress and Development: Has improved vastly in health and general fitness during the time he has spent here. Has developed social and networking skills in accordance with predicted success over the seven years he has been with us. Oliver has also taken to assisting in the care of the younger children, two in particular - Alice and David.

Medical history: Arrived at Rose House with minimal bruising and malnutrition - Ed got there in time to prevent the worst from happening. Oliver seems to have an unusual ability to resist common colds and coughs - has never suffered from any of the usual childhood illnesses during his time here.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/RhyDinLittleTheatre/Rose%20House/Alice.jpg
Child's Name: Alice

Age: 12 years

Date of Birth: 26 November 2008

Race: Half-elven, physical characteristics typical of the Sylvan Elves

Height: 4' 5"

Weight: 134. 5lbs

Date entered Rose House: 17th March 2006

Progress and Development: Came to Rose House fairly advanced with her literacy and numeracy abilities, though incredibly shy of everyone but her brother, David. Thanks to the work of Oliver, Alice has definitely come out of her shell, though she is increasingly attached to Oliver as time goes by. Has improved vastly in health and general fitness during the time she has spent here.

Medical history: Without knowing much of elven or even half-elven anatomy, there is only a little confidence in the statement that Alice arrived with us unharmed physically. As the years have gone by, nothing harmful or untoward has been noticed. Her confidence has certain improved, though only when she is within reach of Oliver, or her brother, David.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/RhyDinLittleTheatre/Rose%20House/David.jpg
Child's Name: David

Age: 7 years

Date of Birth: 2nd February 2003

Race: Half-elven, physical characteristics typical of the Sylvan Elves

Height: 3' 7"

Weight: 110.6lbs

Date entered Rose House: 17th March 2006

Progress and Development: Has improved vastly in health and general fitness during the time she has spent here. Arrived with his sister, Alice, displaying signs of severe mental abuse. Over the years, with the friendship and support of Oliver and Alice, David has slowly come out of his shell, though he remains a skittish young man. General consensus is that the sooner he is settled in a stable environment, the better. Must insist on him being rehomed with his sister.

Medical history: Arrived at Rose House with his sister, Alice, with minimal bruising over the ribcage and back. Timid and easily startled, for several months he would not speak to anyone but Alice, who in turn told Oliver, who would inform us of what was said. Staff cannot take any credit for the turnaround - Oliver's efforts brought David back from the brink. The usual array of coughs and colds during the winter months, none serious.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/RhyDinLittleTheatre/Rose%20House/couple_1.jpg
Prospective Parent(s) Name(s): Entaro and Magda Dan'elea

Reason for wanting to adopt: Unusual case - both former members of the Rail who wish to continue assisting.

Address: Ivy Rose Cottage, Southern Glen

Employed Yes/No: Entaro is a private tutor, Magda is a member of the gubernatorial liaison with less prolific races.

Marital Status: Married

Race: Entaro - Sylvan Elf, Magda - Human

Background check: More than clean. Guaranteed safe house.

Additional comments: Both familiar faces around Rose House - Magda was heavily involved in Oliver's rescue, and Entaro has been equally involved in David and Alice's rehabilation. It was unlikely we would be able to home all three of them together, until the Dan'eleas stated their wish to be further involved in the rehabilitation and protection of our charges after their retirement from the actively dangerous departments of the Rail. Due to their former association with Oliver, Alice, and David, it was a logical step to suggest that they might want to take the three under their wing, as it were. There have been no objections from the children involved, only an insistence on staying together. Once that was assured, they have taken well to the prospect of being away from the constant rearranging of Rose House. A stable environment will work wonders for Alice and David's shy temperaments, as well as being in close proximity to parent figures. Oliver will continue to attend the school here; David and Alice will be tutored by Entaro unless they state a wish to return here. Oliver will keep us informed.

The diary had not been written in for several months. This page was marked with black cloth, the ink stained with tears. But this, too, was a record that had to be kept.

Note: The virus seems to have run its course. There are no further instances of rash or pain either with the surviving children, or with myself or Bernice. Tomorrow we will begin the work of making Rose House safe again.

I failed to protect these children, even from disease. I will submit to whatever punishment is necessary. If I had been more careful, five children would still be alive now. I will never forget them.
