Toward the eastern edge of the Shambles, closer to the main road that splits the area from the rest of the city, there is the Shambles Clinic.

Offering free health care to anyone who needs it, the Clinic has a capacity for 96 nursing and auxilliary staff - not including the staff of the Friends Cafe, situated within the building - and can house up to 42 patients at one time.

It is not a large clinic, nor should it be taken for a hospital. However, the Clinic does employ Healers, as well as doctors of standard medicine. It is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, ready to deal with the accidents and emergencies of the Shambles area.

The Ground Floor

As you enter the Shambles Clinic, you will find yourself in a large, empty space, generally bustling with the to-ing and fro-ing of staff, patients and visitors.

To your left, there is the Reception Desk, where patients are required to be checked in before moving onto the rest of the diagnosis and treatment system.

The door behind the Reception Desk leads to a staff-only corridor, providing access to the Record Rooms of the Clinic.

Also in this corridor is access to the Staff Room, where the various members of staff may take their breaks in relative peace.

On your right as you enter the Shambles Clinic, there is a Waiting Area outside the four Doctor's Offices.

The Doctor's Offices are where most patients requiring non-immediate attention are seen and triaged, by the doctors who practice standard medicine. If they then are seen fit to be able to withstand a magical Healing, their case will be passed onto the Healers.

Next to the Reception Desk is the Relatives' Room, a space set aside for those families who require shelter overnight while their relative is being attended to. Please note this is not a free-for-all; allocation to the Relatives' Room is by priority.

The next door along but one enters onto the Public Bathroom, open to everyone who attends the Clinic.

As you walk further into the Clinic, you will come upon the Clinical Decisions Unit, or CDU, to your left. This is where patients who are either in need of a short period of observation, or are awaiting test results may stay, under the watchful eye of the nursing staff.

Through the CDU is the Treatment Area, where most non-emergencies and minor injuries are treated by both standard medical and Healing practises.

Coming out of the CDU, you will find yourself facing the Friends Cafe. To the right of this is the Elevator to the next floor.

Before we go up to the First Floor, let us spend a moment at the Friends Cafe.

Opened at the same time the Clinic itself was made public, the Friends Cafe is owned and run by a Mr Todd Brooks (NPC), one of the founding members of the Friends of the Shambles Charity Foundation.

They are open from 6am until 9pm, seven days a week, and serve both hot and cold meals, as well as snacks. They also provide meals to the wards on the First Floor, again either hot food, or a cold snack box, dependent on the patients' wishes.

A true sign of the good quality of the edibles they provide, the majority of the staff at the Clinic also get their meals from the Friends Cafe, at a small discount, of course.

The First Floor

As you step out of the elevator - or the corridor leading to the stairwell - onto the First Floor, you will come upon another open space, with various corridors and doors opening from it. Here is the Waiting Area outside the Healing Rooms, as well as the corridor down which are located the Bathrooms.

There are four Bathrooms on the First Floor, each a compact space intended for the private use of patients.

On your left as you step out of the elevator is a small cutaway, either side of which is a door. Both these doors lead to separate wards, Andor and Praso Wards.

Both Andor and Praso are utilised for the application of standard medical practise. They are eight-bed wards, four of which are in private rooms, with a Nurses' Station situated in the middle of the bed area. Both wards are cared for by two nurses, and a nursing assistant, on each of the Clinic's three nursing shifts.

As stated before, there are four Private Rooms on each of the standard medical wards. Priority use of these rooms is for the isolation and barrier nursing of those with infectious diseases, and the dignified care of the terminally ill.

From the illuminated gap between Andor and Praso Wards, you can see along the length of the First Floor, toward the magical centre of Healing - Challa Ward, and the Healing Rooms.

Challa Ward is a five-bed ward, designed for the specific purpose of observation before and after a Healing has taken place. As with Andor and Praso Wards, it is attended by two nurses and one nursing assistant twenty-four hours a day.

The Healing Rooms are five in total. Only four are in use at any one time; the fifth is kept for emergencies. The Healing Rooms are most in use between 2pm and 9pm, though there are always exceptions to the rule.

This concludes our tour of the Shambles Clinic.
