"Mother will certainly be happy we're back," Bryce said with a boyish grin. He and his father, Triv, had been exploring southern Exodii for many years now, a father showing his son the ways of the world. Each had earned several new scars, including one that ran from Triv's right temple down to his jaw line.
Triv smiled, happy to see his son so excited and glad the boy would get the chance to catch up with his mother. Triv, himself, had mixed feelings about the reunion with the mother of his son. He had spent many sleepless nights in his bedroll wondering what it would be like to see her again. He still remembered coming back to Dar Oma with Bryce and Dwyndan to learn the woman he loved was engaged to another man. And he remembered the wedding. Triv spat and swore to himself for the millionth time that if he ever ran into the bastard that left Sha'uri standing at the altar, he'd separate the man from his spinal column.
Bryce, ever the intuitive one, noticed his father's sour look. "She'll be happy to see us both, I bet."
"Only one way to find out," was Triv's only reply. Alex, Bryce's older brother, had been able to send the two messages concerning the current location of the citadel through a device that Triv wasn't sure was magic or technology. The two had observed the attacks on Exodii city and made haste to return and hopefully help defend their new homeland. Triv took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for the reunion, and started toward the citadel. He had to smile, though, imagining what Sha'uri's reaction would be to seeing both of them as they were. Dirty from travelling hard trails, their clothes and armor coming apart at the seams. Bryce still wore twin long swords on his back, though now both handles were wrapped in black leather. He had previously worn one with black and one with blue to symbolize his two fathers but after that fiasco with Galen, he didn't want anything to remind him of the man. Triv just had the one long sword on his back and a dagger at his belt, having never mastered to art of fighting with two weapons of equal length.
