Rules?! We don't need no stinking Rules! - Eh..do we?

Unfortunately, we do.

This area is Free Form based as there is no dice rolling here in RDI, a forum of Dragonsmark. Though we have no objection to the use of dice if you can figure out where else to do this. We do like to base things from other roleplaying games like AD&D, for example. This does not mean that we adhere only to their rules, but that some aspects are based on their ideas.

For Example: Spells, monsters, equipment .... A fireball is a magical fiery ball that burns a lot, Trolls and goblins are basically the same monstrous scum and a longsword is still a longsword that cuts a lot when applied correctly.

Anyway..... Roleplaying is what we encourage more then Rollplaying.

Our *genre* in the system of Exodii --much like the rest of RhyDin -- has a huge Medieval flare though it is a mix involving Sci-fi/ Fantasy though more Sci-Fi technology then what most play in RhyDin. Jump gates, phaser rifles, holographic rooms and replicators are available here. Use your imagination when mixing, but use your head, too. Help the roleplay to make sense. With this mix of genre, it shouldn't be too hard to find solutions to whatever situation there may be. When in doubt, don't hesitate to ask!

The general Exodii System Scenario involves a whole Solar system, though it is centered down to one planet, on a tighter scale it is the City for which the system was named -- Exodii. It is about the places that the Citadel of Mysteries travels to as well.

Some General Board Rules and Guidelines are:

1. Abide by the rules of conduct set forth by Dragonsmark.
3. Have fun.
4. Be accepting of mistakes. Everybody makes them, so be nice to others when they do.... you might be the next one to make one.
5. Have some more fun, but try to let others have fun, too.
6. Be flexible in your roleplay. You know those mistakes I was talking about? Okay, 'nuff said on that one.
7. If you have a cat that likes to jump in your lap, try locking it up away from you before you start to roleplay, especially if they aren't declawed. Hey, it's kind of a safety rule, don't you think?
8. Please, Abide by the posting guidelines set forth by the forum our board is in.... or suffer horribly the consequences.
9. Please Be respectful of the scenery. Play with it, but don't wreck it. Some people put a lot of effort into it. Respect that. But if you'd like something to change, let me know and we'll talk about it. I might be willing to allow major changes, like putting in new cities, destroying some mountains, putting life in where there wasn't supposed to be any or whatever. Ask me first!!
10. What is rule number 2? Find it. If you find it, you get a cookie! If you find others, I just might add some ice cream to it.
11. And mostly, don't forget to have fun.

A few tips ... more rules?:

 You should count on it.

*Play your own character.*

It's really rude to play other people's creations (characters) if you don't have permission. Their characters are not your puppets. They are theirs. Get their permission FIRST before you control their toys. Not gaining permission can and will get posts pulled.

*Share Information.*

Don't be afraid to share information about your character to other players. Sometimes it's very much needed for the player to understand things in order to help them have their characters react accordingly. Like, give good details in your writing. If the writing is too vague then some players might not join because they don't understand what's going on, which makes it hard to know how to have their characters join. Communicate!

*Invite!*

Send a message to other players inviting them to join you! It's no fun just roleplaying with yourself. Bring someone with you! Or, if you see something, like a string of posts, that you think your character would fit into that would benefit more then just your character, then send a message to the original poster of the string asking to join them and give a general description of how and why you want to join and what you generally plan to do.
In other words... Communicate!

*Put Physical Description in Profile!!*

It is generally accepted that SN profiles are for physical descriptions of your character, not history, not flowery poetics or a roleplay scene... it's a tool to help show what your character looks like especially if you aren't providing that in the roleplay - which can be hard to do especially in a chatroom. Profiles help make that easier so you don't have to retype it a gazillion times whenever someone new comes into a room. If you want to tell character history, show off flowery poetics, or show some role playing scene, then make a post! Some boards actually provide a place specifically to do that. Or you can make a homepage or start your own message board and write it in there to use as you roleplay....

*Play Nice!*

Sadly, some people do things on purpose as a means to unfairly control how other people play their own characters, or to discredit their characters, or maybe even to pick fights with other players. This kind of behavior ruins the fun for everyone. If you're one of them, I suggest you change your ways before you join with us. Or, don't join at all. We're here to play games with our characters, not mind games with each other as players. Nobody wants to be harassed in any way!

*Whatever character type you chose, be true to it and their abilities. You chose it, so play it accordingly.*

There are some character types more powerful then others. Humans are usually mortal and quite frail compared to dragons. The roleplay should be fair to this. Otherwise, what's the point of roleplaying that character? A normal mortal human usually can't read minds or jump out of a five story building without getting hurt. Okay, it might be funny if played comically, but it's more then likely going to be so ridiculous that it's annoying. At least give him a broken toe or something! ;)

*Rule Number 1.5 - Do Not Mix OOC with your IC or visa versa.*

You are not your character.... you're character isn't you. Not following this line of thought defeats the idea of roleplaying... i.e. Pretending. Sort of like playing with dolls or army men, except a bit refined. It's just pretend.

With that in mind.... If a player asks you not to have your character *know* something after they shared something with you as the Player, then try to be respectful and find a way for your character to *Not Know or Do* that something. What's the harm in it?

On the other hand, if you ask another player to *Not Know or Do* something, be flexible if that something goes totally against that person's character of their Character.
For example: like asking someone to have their Paladin not see or do anything about an assassin who blatantly draws a blade and kills the woman that the paladin is talking to ... that's just asking too much!

Perhaps this situation would work out better if you had your character wait for the woman to be away from the paladin before having the assassin kill her. This could be done by simply asking the player of the paladin to move his character away so this can be played out. Of course.. all that if you have the permission to kill the female character. It's really rude to attempt that on other people's fun little creative outlets without their permission.

Point is, Find a way to make the roleplay work for everyone to have fun.

*Remember:
Characters are fictitious; Players are Real People!
DO try to treat each other with respect.*

By the way, ThAt was rule number 2.....

End of Rules... or is it? 8)
