(Takes place upon Sha'uri's return in After the Fall and during The Seach... A little side journey into Onyx's mind while she is in Stasis. Sha'uri's post inspired the image, which inspired this little side-trip.)

Dreamscape ~

The strange fog refused to dissipate. No matter where she ran, she could not escape this blasted fog. It plagued her mind, stealing her senses. The silver-haired young woman had been following her brother and his best friend on another adventure. They had become separated when the strange fog rolled in.

?Ebon? Pantro?? She called out getting more than a little scared. ?Ebon! Pantro!?

The weird fog closed in on her. This was not right. Her limbs felt heavy and sluggish. She couldn?t find her family. ?Father!? The fog surrounded her, amplifying the fears the woman felt. The hair now dyed green. No longer young, but when did she become an adult?

She struggled against the fog. Her heart racing knowing she had to get out of this but she couldn?t. She needed help and knew who could find her.

?Gabriel?? She murmured the name he used to keep his secrets. She knew his secrets and could only pray he could hear her calls.

?Lupinius!? She cried out, the fear and the fog choking her. Her heart cried out for her mate and she couldn?t reach him. ?Lupinius, help me!? Tears fell from silvery eyes as she prayed for aid ? for rescue.

The Medical Lab ~

The woman lay suspended within the stasis field. The machines monitoring her vitals signs captured the momentary fluctuation but no alarms were triggered. The woman would sleep apparently undisturbed. Unnoticed was the tear escaping closed eyes to drift across a silent cheek.

When her mind cleared from the fog, she found herself in a cage. She remembered the ambush up until the kid tranq?d her. That brought the rage to the forefront, but she couldn?t shift. Her hands curled around the bars as the rage receded and cold fear took over.

?(vq) Lupinius? Why can?t you hear me?? She whispered softly. It never occurred to her that he wouldn?t answer, only that he couldn?t. She would have to find her own way out.

Searching the cage, she couldn?t find any locks. There was no hinges, no door. As if a solid cage was dropped on her. She looked at the cage floor and saw no joints where the two melded. She fought down the fear calling up her anger? Her rage. She was blocked from reaching out to her mate, she was trapped within this cage?

She was not going to tolerate this. ?I am the daughter of Lord Thanos Uth Dravon Deth! I will not be caged!?

WHAM! She threw herself against one side of the cage, hitting the bars with her shoulder. She swallowed the pain and threw herself against the other side of the cage. She focused, calling on the strength of the wolf, adding it to her own.

WHAM! WHAM! She continued the process, slamming herself against the walls, trying to rock the cage from its base. The cage swayed with each hit. She fought back the tears with each wave of pain focusing on her mate.

?Lupinius! Love? I need you! Help me!?

The machines monitoring Onyxia started registering an increase of brain activity and heart rate. She was showing no signs of awakening but her vital signs altered and fluctuated.

After running a diagnostic on himself to verify that he was just fine regardless of Starries minor attack, John kept himself busy running tests on the subject in stasis. Every test was given to establish DNA, bloodwork, nerve pathways, muscular and skeletal structures.. the whole works. Every physical aspect of Onyxia was being tested.

The holodoctor's brow rose as he saw the fluctuation in the vitals. John took another look.

"Well... what's going on here?" he chimed while his fingers played over the keypad bringing up test results. "Looks like you're trying to wake up. Perhaps she's having a bad dream or dreaming of shifting. I wonder... could it happen for real if she's only dreaming? This shouldn't be happening... but you are Lycan. That much was obvious in the tests. I hope you're not trying to change. And what a mess you would make if you did! Well, that won't do. We'll just have to compensate for that one just in case. Thanks for the warning."

The Citadel was well aquinted with shape changers, lycan, vampires, etc... a whole wide range of experimental creatures, ones largely not found on other worlds.. that had been created when Exodii was still within the realm of Secak. Everything was in the database and the doctor was plugged into its memory cores, naturally. He was quick to gather the information of the concoction that would prevent a lycan from changing while the drug was in their system. He was quick to ready the substance and have it injected in Onyxia.

"Here we go!"

The hypo spray was extended down through the tank by remote. A turn of the point was laid to her neck and... Whoosh!

The drug was in her system.

"There, that should also calm you down, maybe shift whatever dream you're having into something more.... pleasant. Sweet Dreams!"

It was how the drug worked, with an emotional and physical calming effect while also preventing the change. John waited to make sure there were no bad reactions, keeping his internal senses glued to the responses recorded by the machines while his gaze watched her physical form closely. Only after he was satisfied would he leave to do other things.

She looked around as the fogs returned. her limbs felt so heavy... they did not want to respond. She dropped to her knees within that cage. She tried so hard to fight it off, but it was of no use.

"Lupinius..."

She faded off to dream... The only comfort was in her mate and so she dreamed of him...

... of better times.

~ Dreamscape ~

The dream was one of the earlier meetings with her mate. They had been talking in the inn when a slayer decided to attack one of the ever-resident dragons. The run to find the slayer had been exhilarating? Two silvery wolves streaking through the night, one larger than the other. She had not been able to do much, but she did what she could without hesitation.

On the nights over the full moon when she had to change, he was there male wolf to her female. In the woods, curled protectively about her. She loved him for that. Even though they were so different, he still shared her world.

She tried to share in his, but in the end, all she could do was do good in her own way. Many of her hiring choices were good people that had fallen on bad times. The promise of stability and work earned her their loyalty. One such was a groomsman? He was inched from his family being evicted. She paid the debt and offered him a way to pay it off. Granted it he would have to work off the debt, the man was good with the horses. She paid him handsomely, so that he did not go without while he was working.

Such things meant she was a landowner of sorts now, something she took seriously. The properties she did own, she took care to make sure they were safe and stable. The people were more important and loyalty wasn?t something you buy, you had to earn it.

The wolf protected her people from dangers as well. She prowled at night, protecting those under her wing and those without. Slavery was something she was vehemently against. Often she would hunt the slavers and destroy their businesses, both as the wolf and as the woman. Some of the slaves would be brought into the household to work, especially those with nothing else. Girls would be fostered and given their choice,

Sometimes the smallest of stones can create the biggest of ripples.

Now as she laid in the silence of the night with her mate beside her, she could not help but feel she was in a dream and could not wake up. There was one very telling thing about this dream that nagged at her?

? The absence of wings. She remembered the ambush. Her mind was trapped and she could not get out. Yet, as much as she wanted to scream out his name, she did not want the fog to return. She willed herself to stay calm. She breathed a soft prayer as she nestled into the dream Lupinius?

?(vqw) Mother Gaia, help your daughter? I can?t call my mate. I fear this to be a trap for him.?

She knew what he was doing was important. She hated feeling so weak. Her family had been powerful on both sides. Her father and Uncle Lui? Her mother, her uncle Mitru? Even the assassin Talisa.

?(vq) I am Onyxia Uth Dravon Dragonbane, the daughter of Lord Thanos Uth Dravon Deth and The Seven Sins? I will not be caged.? This quiet vow steeled her determination.

She willed herself to patience as she drew herself deeper into her subconscious. She was not a simple Lycan by any means, even if that potential was untapped.

There was no sign of the inner thoughts. The vital signs remained unchanged. She appeared to be sleeping peacefully in that module.

"How's our patient?" Number Three asked as she came in to check on things.

"Sleeping and quite unconscious.... she's in a light state of a coma. She won't be coming out of this any time soon. I've been keeping the levels of the drugs consistent to keep her in that state." John replied.

"Good. How long would you need to bring her out of this state?" she asked.

"Well, that depends. There's the slow and natural way... and then there is the .. more excellerated method." he answered.

"And these would take how long?"

"If I stop the drug naturally, it would take her a couple of hours to wake up on her own, about 2-3 hours depending on her metabolism. Hers seems a bit high so I would say more like 2 hours. If I went the quickest way, it would only take about twenty minutes to bring her out of it. However, I would not recommend this way. It can be tricky and if too much of the amphetamine is introduced too quickly, it can actually kill her. It has to be monitored very carefully and given in small increments at a time. Each individual would have a different reaction to this situation and something not so easily anticipated. Thus the small doses and careful monitoring."

"So, about twenty minutes is the quickest to bring her safely out of it by your estimation. Is that an over estimation or a minimum?"

"Maybe a little over."

"So it might be sooner."

"Possibly."

"Doctor, what is the minimum for a safe return to consciousness?"

"It depends on her reaction which I won't know until I begin with the first dose. Given what I do know, I can estimate that it could actually be ten minutes instead. That would be the minimum I could anticipate for a safe return to consciousness."

"Can she dream now?"

"Yes, oh yes of course. With her physically subdued as she is, dreaming is all the consciousness is able to function in, which is really controlled by the subconscious mind. As a result, her dreaming could be far more profound then normal. I would think."

Number Three smiled evilly. "Good..."

For the first time, she eased into Onyxia's mind to peek at the dreams. Sure enough, the Lycan was dreaming.

"Keep monitoring her well. I'm about to go play in her dreams. Make sure she doesn't come conscious or worse, start dying. You have permission to interrupt me in whatever I'm doing should this begin to happen. I will end the.... experiment. I want to see how she'll react."

"Understood." John's brow raised but there was nothing he could conterdict.

Number Three gathered the ingredients and cast the spell to use the dreams to torture Onyxia.

The spell was cast.

Onyxia's sweet dreams would begin to shift and the Lupinius she knew would slowly make changes, subtle at first, turning against Onyxia. The quips and snyde remarks would come... the lack of attention would follow, and soon.. soon, Lupinius would be torturing Onyxia by giving attention to other women.... women Onyxia had already known.. all the while Sha'uri would be seen in the background, subtle shadows of her image, fleeting glimpses until finally Lupinius was not only giving Sha'uri attentions, but pulling her into the very bed Onyxia and Lupinus used to share right in front of Onyxia - who was tied and couldn't move, forced to watch while over and over Lupinius bed with Sha'uri, both laughing at Onyxia.

This is what the spell did to those dreams...

The dreams started changing at first. The constant absences which was in part truth, though she knew why or so she thought. Then the subtle, cutting remarks made about her, her lack of powers, her inability to keep up. Again, another facet of her, not feeling a part of the work he did. She thought she had a better handle on it.

In the back of her mind she kept saying, this was not Lupinius? This was not her mate.

The attentions to other women horrified her. What, Shariane? But wasn?t Shariane with Wraith?!? And Valeria? She didn?t know about Val?s death. Valeria was one of the Guardian?s that insidious voice whispered. She could share his world completely. But Val was so excited about the wedding!! There was confusion there. Her father was known for his wandering, so was her mother. She struggled against the feelings, the fears, that assailed her. Wasn?t she good enough?!?

Again, that bit of her mind again scream that this was not real? Not Lupinius?

It was when she was bound and forced to watch him intimate with that woman that she started to fight. He was her mate, her soul. There was no way he would do this to her. The bonds held her fast as she was forced to watch. Her heart breaking as this scene played out.

There was that one little bit of her that denied the scene. This was not her mate? Not her Lupinius.

There was a growling heard. The wolf on a primal level wanted to rip that woman apart. It understood that he was her mate?

? And Wolves mate for life.

In my dreams--it's still the same,
Your love is strong, it still remains

She could not tell dream from reality by this point. The wolf insisted that this wasn?t her mate. The wolf was stronger, pulling at her to shatter the dreamscape. But she couldn?t.

Toss and turn all night in the sheets,
I can't sleep
Night after night don't know what it means,
In my dreams

What can I say or do, You won't come back,
we're through
I've realized too late, That, baby,
your love has turned away

In my dreams--it's still the same,
Your love is strong, it still remains
In my dreams--you're still by me,
Just the way it used to be

Her dreams continued to loop, with little differences. The cutting words, the snide remarks? The lack of attention. There was enough truth to give the dreams substance. The continued absences for missions, the feelings of inadequacy. She wanted to be a part of his world? A partner, but she felt like the outsider, however unintentionally. She knew it wasn?t done out of spite but it lent weight to the dreams.

Calling your name, but you're turning away,
Please don't leave
Running in circles, waiting to see you,
In my dreams

What can I say or do, You won't come back,
we're through
I've realized too late, That, baby,
your love has turned away

She watched him pull away from her, over and over. Turning to other women and finally to that one. Her heart was broken and bleeding with each loop. The wolf stayed strong, knowing that this was wrong. Each loop reduced her to primal instinct, stripping her emotions to her soul.

She remembered how she survived alone for so long. No family, no mate, just her and her training. She turned further inward, denying the dreams. Rebuilding her self on pure instinct. Instinct that told her this was all lies. Instinct that told her Lupinius would never betray her like this.

Instinct was what she relied on now? The Wolf was not easily fooled.

In my dreams--it's still the same,
Your love is strong, it still remains
In my dreams--you're still by me,
Just the way it used to be

A few days had gone by. Preparations were underway to form an army. More had come to be recruited then they had anticipated. With the Aid of Lolth, Hecate and Erythnul their army was pushing past 10,000 strong. The original had just left to go deal with Briarius. Soon the attacks would begin once the sun set behind the mountains to the west. Number Three had been given the orders to prepare for Onyxia's return to consciousness and the Doctor was preparing to do just that....

Number three returned her attention to Onyxia, smiling evilly as she began to whisper and nudge the lycan?s dreams once again, infiltrating into her Dreamscape ?.

"You are tenacious. Too bad I don't have more time with you. I know I could break you, make you one of mine...but there's no time. Yet, it would be a shame if I didn't give you a taste of what you'd miss..."

She glanced to John who was preparing the solutions. "Give me 30 minutes then we'll start to wake her giving it an hour to work, until we get word Lupinius is present. Then we wake her fast."

John nodded understanding and prepared to do as she asked.

Her attention returned to Onyxia. All this time she'd been torturing Onyxia with visions of Lupinius with others, leaving Onyxia helpless but to watch. This time, she started the dream out the same as the others... and then shifted gears, pulling Onyxia into the middle of the orgy of sexual pleasures all the while Onyxia was still tied up. It was rape to be sure, not only by her but made it clear Lupinius seemed to be enjoying the act himself on Onyxia. Others joined as well....

There there... see? It could all have been yours, whenever you wanted, however you wanted and with whomever you desired...

Her voice purred with empathic seductive pleasure Onyxia could have..

The dreams continued their cycle, almost endlessly. There was one thing though that Number 3 did not count on. It was that the wolf knew her mate on a level that it gave her strength to gather her resources and look for an opening. No, Number 3 could give the dream Lupinius form, but she could not mimic everything, could not mimic his mannerisms and scent to the degree needed to fool the wolf.

The woman screamed with the continued assault. Her mother may have enjoyed such pleasures. To her, it was the ultimate betrayal. See her mate participating, even enjoying, was horrifying. She wanted to fight or flee. She couldn't fight them off... But she could flee within her own mind.

The Wolf came to the fore with a fierce growl. She fought the bounds and the people touching her. She would not be a victim. She felt the rage adding strength to her. The bounds stretched and strained with her struggles.

The Wolf didn't fall for the illusion. The wolf ran on instinct. The touch was wrong, the scents. There was a harsh growl as the wolf was forced to the fore. Her silvery eyes started changing, becoming more wolf-like. Her incisors elongated and she started snapping at anyone that got close to her.

The shifting was beginning on the Dreamscape. The sedatives would prevent the physical manifestation for the moment.

While the evil one tortured Onyxia?s dreams, another part of her struggled from within?

?I can?t do this mother?? the good part of Sha?uri?s soul shrank down further into her mother?s protectiveness. What the rest of her soul was doing, under the terrible influence of the Abyss, was breaking the heart of her. She was helpless to stop it, powerless to prevent this terrible thing she was doing to Onyxia. She herself had been raped. ?Why am I doing this??

?There, now, daughter? child of my flesh an spirit?. Evil begets evil in so many ways, on so many levels. In order ?t beat it, ye?ve gotta understand it to its core.?

?At the price of this? What?s she done? She doesn?t deserve this!? Anguish filled her gaze as she wrapped her spiritual arms about her legs, pulling her knees to her chest.

?No, she doesn?t. But neither did ye.?

Sha?uri was silent a moment.

?Do you think he was abused?? Sha?uri was speaking about the man that had raped her as a young teen.

?I know he was, luv? His soul wanted revenge on anything he could lash out at.. and ye were weak enough that he did on ye. But what he really wanted was ?t understand why.?

Sha?uri thought about this a moment and nodded. ?But..?

?Shhh?. It?s nae ye doin it. Ye?ve already faced that demon. But the evil that afflicks ye, it exploits yer inner doubts, yer fears, yer unfulfilled needs? Anything it can find ?t use against ye. I think deep down ye still would like ?t tear the man apart?even though ye forgave ?im and let it go. If ye were acting on yer own, ye?d nae fall. But the Abyss is overwhelming and its combined strength is more then any of us can bear.?

?I see what you?re saying, but? it just doesn?t make sense. Why her??

Sharilis? spirit sighed gently. It was the inevitable path that they had come to and she knew it was time to press on to the end of it. She had to say it. ?Because yer jealous.?

?Jealous?! He?s not my type. Feathers make me sneaze. I don?t even know them. How do you get Jealous??

?Because they?ve between them what ye?ve always thought ye needed. I felt yer jealousy, luv. I felt the twinge in the forest when ye were waitin ?t snatch ?er? Ye sensed their connection. Ye felt her yearn fer her mate as ye yerself yearn ?t find one.?

Sha?uri was silent for a moment before she spoke with submission. ?How do I stop this??

?Ye can?t. It knows, it pursues an it feeds from yer dark side. Best ye kin do is lessen it?s severity.. fer now. Don?t let it kill ?er in her dreams. Think, Sha?uri? face it.. feel it. Ye know it wants ?t tear ?er up into li?ll shreds. Ye know what?s commin fer ye an it would be a revenge on an innocent ?t make ?er face what it?s like ?t know someone ye love can shred ye apart so? Ye know what I?m sayin, child. Ye Know!?

?How??

?Ye?ve the strength to influence it. Use it? concentrate on it.. find the source like we just did and shift it. Ye have to learn it ? ye have to use it. I?ll nae be around much longer ?t do it fer ye. Ye have ?t be the one??

?Why??

?Because ye have ?t find the balance in yerself." Her tones were soothingly reassuring. "Ye are so much like yer father in so many ways? Find the Balance an ye kin win this.?

Sha?uri nodded but still lifted her gaze to her mother?s. ?You said you wouldn?t be here much longer.. why??

?Ye know why. Can?t ye feel it? Do ye nae know what Briarius does? It?s because it?s time that ye face this an put an end to it. There will be nae turnin back this time. I must be on the outside of ye. Help me? give me out, let me go, Sha?uri?just like I made ye do with the child.. ye?ll know the time. Can?t ye feel it comin??

Sha?uri knew exactly what her mother was saying. The ties that Briarius and Corellon were putting on her were growing stronger in an unstoppable way.

She hung her head and wept, using what small influence she had on herself to keep the darkness from the act of horror upon the lycan and let it be satisfied to force the pleasure, toying with the lycan pinning her down as she tried to change?letting her bite and rip flesh of her victims but the victims would heal in two blinks of an eye. It made Onyxia fight a losing battle over and over ... And over again, yet there were no clear winners. It was better then letting the evil rip entrails and body parts from Onyxia. It was better then letting the dream kill her. It was all she could do, as small of a thing as that seemed, yet it took all her concentration, all her will and effort. And it would keep the lycan alive.

Then the time came?. All the copies felt the binding of time come to full strength, felt the permanency bind it tighter and the expelling of the partial soul of Sharilis? they felt the curse against Corellon, felt the defilement of his altar. Sensed the beginning of the end for them all?

Number Three pulled from Onyxia?s dreams. The Lycan had proven to be too strong willed to deal with. More like too stubborn to waste time on. It was time to bring her out of it? time to call in the Angel.. time to face him and take him out as she had the other Guardian.

?Doctor! It?s time?. Bring her out?.Slow for now, but when the battle begins, pull her out fast.?

Onyxia was brought out of the tank and chained to the floor, hands, feet, midsection and neck all bound to the cold thick stone, anchored by several feet into its core. Even if she turned Onyxia wasn?t getting out of that hold on her own. The doctor administered the drugs as directed, slow at first.

Number Three prepared herself for battle?

"To be or not to be - that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or take arms against a sea of troubles and, by opposing, end them. To die, to sleep-to sleep, perchance to dream." ~Hamlet

There was a small reprieve as Number 3 withdrew. In the torture, the wolf protected the woman from the horror if it. On a subconscious level, the wolf succored the woman. There was a moment of awareness when they both felt surrounded by memories... Memories of her brother, uncles and her father. She drew strength from them. She grew strength from the wolf as well. There was a moment when the silver of the wolf met the silver of the woman.

As she was pulled from the tank, the wolf and the woman merged in spirit and soul. Onyxia was worried even as the wolf whispered, ?Trust me, little sister.?

She was slowly coming out of the stasis unable to move. Her mind was still too fogged to do more than try to wake up and figure out why she couldn't move. Her body felt leaden. Her mind was still trying to cope with the horror that had been set upon it. In her heart and soul, she knew Lupinius would never do something so vile. It was against everything he fought for, believed in...

That gave her hope...

Shauri

The last ten minutes had been hell on Number Three, along with the rest of the copies and original...each in their own ways. Having endured the pain of giving up the one protecting her, putting her trust into her mother, the Evil had seized hold of what little light was left of Sha'uri. That one had never known such horror, pain, darkness... loneliness... Devoured by evil, Sha'uri's light faded as it was swallowed into the depths of the Abyss.

There was only one spark, one small glimmer left of that part of her and it clung tenaciously to the image of Aquil killing her, ending the pain. It was the only hope she had left to hold on to. As for the lycan, that part of Sha'uri had done everything she could for her. Onyxia was completely in the hands of the evil one now.

Number Three, having prepared for battle, didn't appear to have done anything at all except to change her clothing. The outfit was still exceptionally revealing even if the black leather seemed to cover most of her legs.

Oval shaped holes met end to end along the sides of her legs. The rest of her legs were covered in spaghetti string strips of leather spider webbed over her skin. Knee patches were in the shape of a spider. At the top of her thighs the material regressed to connect into glorified G-string panties with a patch of spider to cover between her legs. The midsection was like the legs, fragments of leather string spider webbed fragments there and up over the back and arms. The breasts were covered by two pieces in the shape of a spider, one for each breast.

Her boots were spider like with three inches stacked beneath her already six foot height. The soles were lined with one inch sharp metal spikes. Likewise lined were the fingerless grieves over her hands, spikes lined across her knuckles and along the outside of her forearm was a row of curved and fin like blades sticking out about three inches. These would slice one way and rend chunks of flesh on a down swing. Her knee pads were also lined with one spike each, about three inches long with short counter spikes along the sides that would insert easily and pull out tearing chunks of flesh with it.

Number Three stood over Onyxia's body and glanced to the doctor. "Battle has begun. We've got word movement is stirring in Exodii. They'll be there soon but too late to do anything about the city. Bring her out... Now. Fast. You have fifteen minutes."

"But that might..." the doctor tried to remind her that he needed twenty.

"I don't care. I just need her conscious enough to call her mate here. He'll come, regardless if she lives or dies. My use of her is done at that point, so I don't care if she lives or dies. Just get her awake no matter how briefly it is."

"Understood. She'll be awake in fifteen." the doctor began to administer the drugs that would wake Onyxia up fast.

Number Three set a few spells in place, contingent upon Lupinius' arrival, then she moved to the window to peer out of the Citadel and wait for the prey to arrive......

The words drifted into that haze state of unconsciousness.

?Bring her out...?
?Now.?
?Fast.?

The words faded momentarily and she heard a vague voice in the background. Then the next words pierce that haze again chilling her.

"I don't care. I just need her conscious enough to call her mate here. He'll come, regardless if she lives or dies. My use of her is done at that point, so I don't care if she lives or dies. Just get her awake no matter how briefly it is."

The drugs to reverse the sedatives slammed into her system ripping her out of the slumber and into consciousness with a force that stunned her briefly. She was forced to awareness and crystal clarity. Her heart was racing as if it wanted to explode from her chest. Her enhanced healing struggled to compensate for the physical effects of such an awakening.

Her limbs still felt leadened but she soon realized that she was securely chained to the floor. There was a low rumbling growl from deep in her chest. The eyes, though inhumanly silver to begin with, took on the features of the wolf.

She would not allow herself to be a pawn. Her eyes locked on Number 3. She would speak his name alright. Yet as disorienting the awaking was, there was one thing she would never do? She would keep faith with her mate.

Her voice was hoarse from disuse. ?(vq) Lupinius? There is danger.? Her voice grew stronger as she continued defiantly, ?It is a trap. Stay away!? The images, the emotions behind the words? The fear, the trauma added flavor to the call and knowing that her mate had empathy...

The amulet at her throat shimmered with a violet light. Let them kill her? She will not deliver him into this trap.
